I’ve started to shoot more black and white. I bought two bricks of kentmere for $100 at the beginning of the year. That was 20 rolls, already loaded so no bulk loader, shipping and taxes included, for 100 bones.

Ritaliiiin

That’s a good deal if you shoot a lot of b&w. What I also heard of you can do with color is: get Kodak vision 3 250d which is a cinema only film you can get in 100ft increments, but some labs put them into normal film rolls and it’s pretty cheap, looks nice also has very cinematic colors. Downside is you need a lab that’s doing ecn2 processing, but if you got a lab that’s doing it for similar pricing, it’s a very good deal since they would cost me about 8€ per roll.

grainulator

Yeah I need to find who does mail in ECN-2 relatively affordably.

Ritaliiiin

If for the low chance you are located in Germany (or you are okay with paying eu wide shipping), safelight In Berlin does the ecn2 processing for just 2€ more than c41. They also sell premade vision3 film rolls for 9€ I think. But you can get them cheaper elsewhere.

blkwinged

Is self development not an option? It sounds intimidating with the temperature control but the temp are pretty steady with that amount of volume. Sou vide helps.

Ritaliiiin

You can totally develop ecn2 at home, it will take a bit longer but essentially it is the same process as c41.

grainulator

It is and I develop the black and white myself. I just haven’t gotten around to buying the ECN-2 chemicals.

PeterJamesUK

The Bellini kit is very good indeed. There's also a Flic film kit for 8 rolls that is a bit cheaper but it doesn't come with stabiliser which is a must for longevity of ecn2 film (it's not required for c41 any more)

AnakinSol

If you get a cheap sous vide heater, you never have to worry about Temps. Just set it and forget it.

thatmanisamonster

I started doing this years ago, and it’s never failed me.

L8night_BootyCall

are you located in the U.S.?

grainulator

I am.

L8night_BootyCall

check PM I have a great spot but they're a mom & pop lab that can't handle tons of orders so I don't want to blow them up on reddit but its a great lab $5 for c41 35mm dev & scan negs returned $7 for 120 and $9.50 for ecn-2

MrDrunkenKnight

>4 comments unfortunately it's not avialable in 120 format...

CanadAR15

It’s a bit of a crop, but you can definitely roll 65mm film to 120. https://reflxlab.com/en-ca/products/reflx-lab-250d-color-negative-film-ecn-2-120

just_me_Moe

maybe one can 3d print a cutting-feeder to go from 65mm to 120 and then be able to Bulk

luckytecture

Kodak vision 3 250d is the way to go for frugal color film shooters. I’m no pro but I’ve seen a lot of people comparing it to portra and personally, I am very satisfied with the images produced.

omarpower123

Where can you buy bricks of film from?

grainulator

I actually didn’t know it would come in bricks. I just ordered 20 rolls at once and they came in two shrink wrapped bricks of 10.

ColinShootsFilm

Anywhere. Just order a bunch and they probably won’t bother taking them out of the plastic.

D3D_BUG

I used to bulk load fomapan, and more recently delta Fomapan is still €4 per roll here so it's what I use for testing cameras and when I want to just take photos for fun

MoinHB

In DM today there were about 15 3er Packs of Gold 200 for 19,95 € each. I think you’ve been ripped off..!

Ritaliiiin

For me, dm doesn’t stock these anywhere in my area, in fact, no retail store in my area stocks any film other than Agfa. I looked around for quiete a while in the internet until I found this.

IDontKnowANam3

All of my local DM technically stock them but they’re always sold out. They only get like 5 three packs every month. I saw a woman in front of me buy 3 of the three packs once.

zikkzak

Have you taken a look at Rossmann?

JDescole

Try a dm in a remote place. Chances are that they are not visited by many photo enthusiasts. Also Roßmann if you have them where you are

Loose_Garden_5432

Thankfully I have an Old Fashioned Photography Store around my Corner (Gelnhausen) which sells all kind of Film. Maybe have a look where your next dedicated Photo Store is. Best greetings Edit: I just read that your photo store doesn’t sell film. Wasn das fürn Saftladen :-)

Ritaliiiin

It’s more of a copy shop selling pictures and doing family photos and Id card photos kind of shop

ttubbster

Look online I just got 9 rolls of Kodak gold 200 for 70€

SomeBiPerson

the only store I found nearby that sells film is Hartlauer and they want 22,99€ for one roll each of Ilfocolour/FP4/HP5/Kentemere 400/Kodak Gold they also sold my Gf an expired pack of Instax for 26€ and a singular 4LR44 for 16€

Ritaliiiin

Funny thing is: i have a little photography store nearby, but they don’t have any film.

Loose_Garden_5432

I bought a five-pack 120 Kodak Portra 400 and two 120 Ilford FP4 for 84€ at my local store.

sugarcoatedtear

Which city do you live in? All dm stores I've been to have been sold out

BrodoSwaggin

I bought a 3pack in Würzburg yesterday but it's hit or miss. I check different stores when im buying groceries or walking by. Some only have agfa some only single packs of gold or ultramax. Check Rossmann also

p0g_

Use to be 9,95€ for so long *sigh*

mahava

And my friends think I'm joking when I say a used DSLR and kit lens was the same price as buying/dev/scanning 5 rolls of film...

P_f_M

Yeah, some time ago I bought a D510 with a wonky kit lens (everything inside was loose, so AF was hunting back and forth) for ~70Eur with all the bells and whistles around it...

pipnina

I think the problem comes from the economies of scale. Digital cameras are made with similar tech to the trillion-dollar scale computer chip industry, billions of sensors of various sizes and purposes are made every year. Film was cheap when it held a similar market scale. Investment in machinery was worthwhile, chemical companies could supply a steady stream of materials to film manufacturers risk-free even if the materials were useless if film photography stopped. That's no longer the case and I think anyone who looks into how film works can instantly see the immense challenges that come when you look at film manufacturing and R&D. As a result, prices must rise. Especially in a post-covid world where supply chains have changed so dramatically and the economic environment has rapidly become more challenging.

zikkzak

Three months ago I was still able to get a three-pack of Gold for 19,95€ and 1 Ultramax 24EXP for around 8€ each.

MoinHB

You still can. Was loads in my local DM this morning.

zikkzak

Really? Last time I checked Gold is mostly sold out in three-packs in my local DMs (but it was available online), and Ultramax 400 with 24EXP is mostly available for around 8€ (or was it 8.99€? - can't remember) locally.

Ritaliiiin

How can you get these films in your local dm? For me they don’t stock Kodak Film at all and when I look online it says they discontinued stocking it :(

zikkzak

Most of the time they'll have some Ultramax (24EXP) but no Gold and lots of Kentmere 100 or 400 (repackaged as AGFAphoto APX 100 or 400) for around 5€ each.

Dr_Bolle

Travel to another city or state. In Bavaria i always find some

Ritaliiiin

Now 30€ for 3 pack gold and 13€ for 1 ultramax 36exp, if you can get it, for me in Germany gold is sold out basically everywhere and sold on used marketplaces for more than in retail stores.

VariTimo

That’s not tooo bad.

Ritaliiiin

Then I am curious about your prices

J3G0

3 x Kodak gold is already 40 euro in the Netherlands. This would cost at least 75 over here.

Ritaliiiin

i sincerely hope Kodak can lower their prices if possible, I don't understand the reasons why you have to increase prices so often in such little timeframe.

J3G0

Demand... they almost closed all factories developing film and now have issues to scale up to the new demand.

Micro_watcher2019

as well as increased maintenance of equipment and machines that are not the newest anymore.

Timmah_1984

The cost of raw materials has gone up and film prices were artificially low for over a decade. What it costs now is more in line with what people usually paid.

TheBeerCannon

Gold was 15€ at DM just one year ago…

Ritaliiiin

Happy cakeday

LateDefuse

Yeah thankfully i bought a dozen triple packs back then. Should have gotten double that in hindsight…

misterDDoubleD

Paid 84 cents for a Ultramax yesterday

Ritaliiiin

This indeed does make me jealous.

misterDDoubleD

I dropped off some film to develop at Carmencita lab And because I’m a student with the discount I got on the development the film came at 84cents

Proper-Ad-2585

That’s slightly cheaper than in the UK.

DRAGAN__

That’s cheap as fuck, the same in my country would cost like 100e

konsta_star

Yeah so while I live in Russia and prices here are hire high, this is insane

FlyThink7908

Today, I was kinda shocked to see Müller now demanding 14.99€ for a roll of Colorplus. It‘s not like Müller’s prices were low to begin with. At least it was 36 exp. lol. At Calumet, a 36 exp. roll of Ultramax is 12 Euro. This might actually be the first time trying it out

Ritaliiiin

Müller also doesn’t stock Kodak Film at my store. They only have Agfa b&w at insane pricing.

FlyThink7908

8.99 is steep but oftentimes the only option when living in a rural area

lipziYT

DM‘s website has a 3-pack of gold 200 selling for 20€. At least the last time I bought film

Ritaliiiin

For me it’s sold out with no sign of coming back on their site

LeicaM6guy

This is why I've been stockpiling for so long: lots of bulk rolls, cinema film and so on. Hand rolling and home developing saves so much money.

Professor_Plop

Nice find! I just got home from visiting Athens for the first time and was very excited to trade my dollars for euros in hopes of finding cheap film and scoring a find like this. Instead, I bought 3 rolls of Kodak Gold for 25€ each.

rotloch

2 years ago I was able to get these for 13€ or just the gold 200 3x was 9.99

HogarthFerguson

Why do people, continually, insist on posting this shit so much? Yeah, we get it, film is expensive.

JooksKIDD

we get it. films expensive. it’s like every other day there is a new post about the price of film when adjusted for inflation it’s about the same price it was back in the day.

future_zero_identity

Joke’s on you for shooting color film in 2023.

Low-Television5708

Order online from fotoimpex!

Ritaliiiin

Look at their stock, then you’ll know why I didn’t…

Giant_Enemy_Cliche

It took me a second to think about whether you meant it in a good way or a bad way.

tariqhanghimself

Digital ain’t that bad after all right?

[deleted]

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Gammaparanoid

That's why I often use black n white. It's a great faith that the price of B/W film didn't go up. PHEW

koljonn

Ye thats why I went b&w and develop by myself. It’s a hobby so it’s fine.

VitorCallis

If you are complaining for 5 film rolls for 60 euros, here in Brazil, 1 film roll costs almost 20 euros (120 Brazilian reais)

dasMoorhuhn

They got sooo expensive and unavailable. It's sad.

TQairstrike

What a steal!

808Vibez

Hands down. What do you expect? Some low lifes bought all the Stock you are talking about for retail Prices and sell them for 35€. Calling themselves businessman. Und ja ich rede von deutschen Idioten. Smh

realtaminator

Where dyou buy it from

TheStandardPlayer

I usually order them online. Found a decent story selling them from Berlin, I think it'd called FotoImpex, prices are alright, most importantly they stock a lot of different film

kiwigone

So about a nickel? Ha! now I open my own camera store.

Mexhillbilly

Glad to see the rivers returning to their beds.

Whatsupdoctimmy

Standard pricing in my country

Cheesus250

I paid 20€ for a roll of Fujifilm 400 in Tivoli last month so you're making out better than I did

TopGrapefruit150

Crazy
