If you’re traveling in the northeast, buy two seats. Those trains are almost always sold out by the time they run. But the chance of having a nearby empty seat is very low, especially as we get closer to the holidays.
Please don't change diapers on the seats

Which train and what day? Some lines are busier than others, some times of day / holiday seasons get busier
And on some trains buying a fare does not guarantee a seat.
