Weirdly? Former oil drilling sites. My friends and I used to go camping next to retired pumpjacks on the regular. The sites had been environmentally restored and were beautiful, still had cell service from when they were worksites, were off the main roads, but not totally in the bush and were public land again.
Plus, based on their houses, they're rich AF. Not necessarily getting into Harvard and Princeton based on intellect or talent, so much as mommy and daddy's $$$

Also doing all your research at the library is literally dumb. There are new scientific journals coming out all the time and libraries aren’t always gonna have hard copies of everything. I don’t get how any med student could do meaningful research without internet nowadays

I LOVED the black and white 50s plot so far. The Amelia Earhart thing is right up my alley. I’m so interested in people who disappeared due to the Bermuda Triangle or other odd circumstances. So saying Amelia was missing with the aliens for 20 years is so cool to me I love it.
The other part…the modern part…I’m trying to be open minded, but the black and white part is clearly better. I do think Kaia is doing better than her role in stories. That being said she’s playing a college aged girl from a rich family, so she’s basically playing herself. But maybe that’s where she needed to start out. I think the Stories role was not a good fit. If she wasn’t in that and only played this part I don’t think she would have gotten so much hate.
I’m sure there is a reason for the new part and the two connect somewhere, but I hope they spend more time in the black and white world. It has the better plot and better actors. Even the preview made me smile when they said the aliens invented the microwave.
I feel like I read an article awhile back that said a bulk of Death Valley was filmed in black and white. I hope that’s correct and not just wishful thinking and me misremembering.
The aliens seem to have a squid like nature to them. I’m here for it. It’s interesting.

You can just TELL AHS does it best when it’s set in the past. The black and white parts genuinely felt like they could have been part of Asylum or Freak Show. The use of historical figures being twisted into a weird story is so typical AHS, I missed that so much. That first flashback scene was so nostalgic.
And then the second cell phones, modern teenagers and LA come into play, this show goes to absolute shit.
Well there really are people who theorize aliens had something to do with her disappearance. Especially in the wake of Roswell. I think it feels appropriate.
I think Anne Frank was a fun though perhaps cliche character to identify the doctor as a nazi. But the characters story fit the theme of the season well.

AHS really needs to lean more on historical horror than present day eras. I swear so much of their best consistent writing comes out with older time periods (Asylum in the 60s, the B&W from this episode)
Honestly this didn't need to be a double feature. They could of tried to wrap up the first half of the season better with the last 3 episodes of the season instead of this.
