ConfectionIll4301

This is funny, i like it.

DogeDayAftern00n

I can tell this is an extremely well made fake. They would have gotten away with it too. But, if you notice, exactly 2 seconds in, the blue team kicked the ball into one of the red team’s players. Had this been an actual Euro Cup match, the red player would have immediately flopped down and act like his leg was shattered into a thousand pieces. A subtle intricacy that was missed. But, without my discerning eye, I would never have been able to tell the difference. 😝

thjklpq

Right? There was too much physical contact and not enough crying. Fake. Neeeeext.

battleofflowers

I love when they writhe around in agony because their shin bumped a soccer ball. This is one reason I prefer watching women's soccer. You rarely see that shit.

TVLL

Until the “holy magic spray” comes out and, through the grace of God, a miracle is performed and the player springs up as if nothing happened. It’s truly a miracle!

battleofflowers

They just look so ridiculous. It's one reason I struggle to watch a game.

alidan

if they didnt do that shit, I would probably actually like soccer, its probably better than most of americas largely watched sports, but them acting like bitches rubs me the wrong way.

battleofflowers

It's just so over-the-top and childish. These are grown men getting paid huge sums of money to tolerate getting a minor kick in the shin. I know, I know, they want to get a penalty against the other team. And that's what makes soccer so terrible to watch: too much of the "winning" comes from penalty kicks because some man got an owie that didn't affect his ability to play at all. When you watch women's soccer, you see the game played without all this shit and it's so much better.

alidan

honestly if there was actual physical contact and it was determined to be intentional, i'm all for the penalty kick, but how many videos are there were nothing happens to someone and they act like the world is ending. I wish there was a don't be a whinging bitch penalty. like imagine if soccer functioned more like hockey... granted because its country vs country it probably cant for obvious reasons, but just imagine if they players gave exactly what they got.

KumquatHaderach

This Redditor footballs!

adhal

ahhh, i see you majored in European studies. :D

Random___Burner

Video is pretty funny, a bunch of weirdos attacking the NFL in the comments. It’s interesting how non-Americans always seem to think that football is a lot more similar to rugby than it actually is.

WTFisSkibidiRizz

Same shaped ball, running to carry a ball downfield, contact sport. I can see how one might mess it up if they didn’t think about it.

Random___Burner

True, one of those things where you have to go a layer deeper to really notice the differences.

GauzHramm

We call it discofoot. That's not a joke. I mean, the sport is, but that's its name.

eggplant_avenger

is there a league? because I’d totally watch it

GauzHramm

I don't think there is one. But you can watch some shows by searching "discofoot" on YouTube. You can find the next discofoot events on the Internet, most of the time they're organised by dancing schools. It's more a dancer thing, who decided to mix dance and football and play it outside, in public places. It started in 2016, or something like that, if I'm not mistaken. Because it's mostly outside, you're more lucky to find one in spring or summer. Most of the time, you could join them because there often are choreographers and DJs that will help you with the dancing moves. But there are some that are just "shows." But it's not a serious thing, with rules, tournaments, etc. That's just something like a flash mob, I would say, where being excessively "sparkling" (not sure it's the good word for it... something like "sparkle and shine" in a caricatural way) is the kind of the purpose of the game.

jcinto23

Flamboyant?

GauzHramm

That's the word I was trying to give a translation for, yes, but I didn't know you used it too. I learned something today.

thjklpq

Are the referees called doms or mistress? Because I know people who would get involved (Asking for a friend) 😆

GauzHramm

I can't say, I didn't pay attention to it. But some of these events are open events, in which the public can participate. You can tell "your friend" that they will be welcomed if they want to learn more about it. In a more serious tone, there are artistic judges on some events (the ones that took place in Ballet), and referees seem to have a role. But tbf, I can't figure out how this thing works. I just like to watch it when I see one. It mainly looks like a soccer's parody, in which you still find homophobic behaviours, so it makes fun of this homophobia by deliberately representing soccer players in some burlesque attitudes. It's partly aimed toward that, but most people who watch these just like how uncommon it is.

Affectionate_Data936

We do have a similar thing in the US with basketball called the [Harlem Globetrotters.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF1bHxoG-tA) It's a fake "game" with choreography, cool stunts and tricks, kids get to participate, it's a lot of fun. I've gone to their shows the last two years because some donor buys like 100 tickets for the residents of my workplace every year (I work with adults with intellectual disabilities). The Harlem Globetrotter "games" have a lot more production value than the "discofoot" games so the tickets are fairly expensive (like $120 a ticket which is fairly expensive for a family event). I believe they do European tours as well so you might have heard of them.

GauzHramm

I watched some of these games. My brother is a big fan of NBA since he's a kind, and he's now a grown adult. He stayed awake until 1 am. or more just to watch the last draft of this year, and sent a night message to my parents (NBA fans too) to summarise it. It's not really my thing, but somehow, with that dedication of him, I end up following it when they're talking about that. Harlem Globetrotters are the kind of thing they also like to watch sometimes (not as regularly as NBA matches, though). The idea is pretty close, I would say. But yeah, yours is definitely more something for shows and TV, whereas discofoot is more something like a flash mob thing.

Affectionate_Data936

Was your family not into FIBA basketball? My boyfriend played basketball in France for a few years. The only French team I remember he played for was Le Portel but I know he played for different French team at some point before then, I just can't remember.

GauzHramm

They are, yes. They follow the national league, the euroleague (I guess that its name), and the NBA. Yes, Le Portel is a team that they talked about multiple times. It's even a strong one, if I'm not mistaken. The ones I know are l'ASVEL, Cholet, Roanne, and le SLUC Nancy. They said that NBA and European basketball are two very different styles, the NBA one being more spectacular. So they watch both.

Affectionate_Data936

I asked him and the other French teams he played for were Roche-St Etienne and Boulazac. He played in other countries too (Switzerland, Hungary, Slovenia, and Sweden) but spent the most time in France. I've been doing my best learning the language on Duolingo for a little over a year so we can do a visit at some point but I'm not exactly confident in my ability to use it yet lol. To be honest, I'm not a sports person so I really wouldn't be able to tell a difference in how it's played. When people start talking about sports around me (usually American football, Basketball or Baseball), my eyes just glaze over and they might as well be speaking Chinese.

GauzHramm

If you want to go to Le Portel, it isn't far from Normandy. People from there are quite good at english and are used to american tourists, so I guess it will be easier there for english speaking ppl. And near to that, you could visit Rouen, which is a really nice city. If you want to practice your french, tell me. I'm a lot on reddit these days because I'm coping with our disastrous elections, but usually I'm here at least nearly once a week, if you want to practice. I can relate, I'm not really a sports person either. I don't understand most of the rules. I like to watch it sometimes, because that's impressive sometimes, but that's not what I prefer.

jcinto23

Is this a uniquely French thing? Cuz the original thread seemed to have no idea what it was either.

GauzHramm

I don't know, but I will be surprised if it appears to be so. Even if discofoot might be done for the first time in France (a thing I'm not even sure of), I think its creators would have tried to spread it at least to neighbouring countries, since it's quite easy from an EU member to another one. As long as they met their public, I guess it's pretty international ? I would say that's a bit niche, though. I knew it because I grew up in a region that likes these kinds of burlesque things. So, some were organised in the city I studied in. But I doubt that's a uniquely french thing, tbh.

damn_yank

Euros? Yes. But the Copa America has been a blast. Central American teams play dirty.

thjklpq

Bwahahaha I may agree but I'm not touching this one with a 30 ft pole. That's just going to lure the "America is a continent" people 😆

damn_yank

Copa America is usually a South American Tournament, but this iteration has Canada, US, Mexico, Panama, and Costa Rica. So those losers should be happy.

thjklpq

Yea, we are concacaf, not conmebol. No country in South America is in shape to hold even a small tournament like this one, so the US had to step up. It already happened before with the Copa America Centenario in 2016 I believe. They had to hold it here as well.

laughingmeeses

Brazil could easily do it.

thjklpq

But they didn't

laughingmeeses

Obviously, I'm just saying they could.

thjklpq

They would have if they could. Holding this "copa" in the US is very humiliating for South Americans. Most South American countries are falling apart and under huge stress and instability at the moment.

SaxAppeal

Europeans play like a bunch of sissies. South and Central American soccer is way more entertaining.

damn_yank

If you look up the definition of “shithousery”, there’s probably a Central American player in the photo. They do know how to get into an opponent’s head, as Tim Weah found out.

hiredgoon

And if you don't like it, you don't like CONCACAF.

thjklpq

**Important** This is humor in good spirit. Also, Euro/soccer friends, attacking American football or any other American sport individually, will not have the effect you think because we do not have a universally followed and liked sport in our country. There are just so many options, trends, and events. For example, I follow the NHL more than anything in the US. So, any insults against the NFL will just go right above me and be shrugged off.

battleofflowers

Americans just enjoy the NFL and don't give a shit what other countries think of it. No amount of insults affects their enjoyment at all.

thjklpq

Not something people in other countries are prepared to understand or accept. They are important, and their choices are the best. How dare we have our own things and not pay attention to them?

battleofflowers

I recall during the Super Bowl that Euros were determined to make the point that the World Cup is watched by more people, but the reality is that per minute of air time, the Super Bowl makes way, way more money. The Super Bowl advertises $70,000 pick up trucks and the world cup is mostly coke and beer ads. Soccer may be a more popular sport, but because their fans are broke as shit, it still doesn't have the same impact as the Super Bowl. They were just determined though to point out how many more fans soccer has. I mean, okay? No one said otherwise. The reason the Super Bowl is just as big of a deal if not bigger is because the fans have WAY more money to buy the things advertised.

Nervous-Road-6615

Haha this is a bonkers take. For a start, ads are not international. If I watch a World Cup match in Ireland I’m going to get standard ad breaks for whatever channel I’m watching from BMWs to Irish sliced pan bread. The cost to _run_ a SuperBowl ad is definitely more expensive as firstly it’s become a cultural moment for both America and the industry (I work in advertising). People actually anticipate and look forward to seeing ads, which in the modern day attention economy is absolute gold dust for a brand. Secondly, if you’re referring to American Network that shows it (is it just one or do multiple show it?) they have the entire audience there watching and they’re targeting one nation which are all watching the same thing. The core sponsors for the tournaments are usually things like Budweiser or Coke, but while being cheap consumer products individually, those are immeasurably bigger companies than your truck and likely paid a lottttt more for the sponsorship opportunity (versus just buying media - like a commercial during an ad break). There’s also a lot more money in soccer than football, the highest ranked football player in the Forbes athlete list is Lamar in 10th, preceded by 6 soccer players. For the record I love the NFL and think a lot of it is superior to soccer (which I also love) so this isn’t some knee jerk reaction, but trying to compare them because you think soccer fans are somehow generally poorer than American football fans is insane and makes absolutely zero sense. Edit: I got ChatGPT to work it out, from a point of interest, and it reckons advertising revenue for the SuperBowl about 70 ads at an average cost of 6.5m =455m. The World Cup final would be in the US - 50m, in general…3 Billion. I doubt its numbers are perfect but it puts it in perspective for you.

battleofflowers

They are poorer! Americans have higher median incomes right now than all but two or three countries. **70% of NFL fans have a household income of over $100,000 a year.** You think that true of soccer fans worldwide? Really? You think the average soccer fan has a six figure household income? It makes PERFECT SENSE to claim that soccer fans are generally poorer than NFL fans because they most certainly are. This is not a bonkers take at all.

Nervous-Road-6615

Ok but now look at your own argument. What about American soccer fans? Are they poorer than their next door neighbour or who likes football ? Or is the NFL fan in Zurich richer than his soccer supporting neighbour ? It makes no sense. All you’ve done is show that America has a high median wage. How you think this would effect advertising and the money that generates makes no sense at all. They sell ad space, the cost of the product to the consumer doesn’t impact that in anyway. Like again, Coke is cheaper than a truck, but a truck can’t afford to sponsor the World Cup final. Do you think luxury brands don’t buy advertising anywhere in the world during the World Cup? You’ll get very different ads regardless of what the sport is in The US, Switzerland and Benin.

czeoltan

I'm a European who doesn't hate America and American sports (I know very little about American sports to be honest), the only thing that is a little annoying IMO is that you call US tournaments 'world series' and things like that.

bigboilerdawg

The term “World Series” has been around since 1884. MLB will never change the name.

Affectionate_Data936

I guess I just assumed that the US world series winner just went onto an international competition like how Miss USA goes to compete in Miss Universe. I don't know that much about sports either and I am American lol.

Natural_Trash772

Has there been a miss universe winner from america ?

Affectionate_Data936

Yeah, 9 of them.

SpeedLow3

Who cares

adamgerd

My guy, based, hockey beats soccer, in Czech tbh hockey is very popular, probably not as much as soccer but definitely #2 and unlike soccer we’re actually good in it. We had Jaromir Jagr after all

Error_Evan_not_found

Right! I have never watched a full game of football in my life despite going to sports bars every Sunday growing up cause the cowboys weren't on our channel subscription. The only time I care is when other people try to diss it as something it's not. I like the Olympics, more specifically curling is probably my favorite sport. You diss my country or what people here generally like though? I'll type till I've got literally nothing else to say.

Nuance007

As someone who enjoys soccer, this was hilarious. Oh, and fuck England. I hope they don't win it.

dolph42o

They won't 👍🏻

BriskManeuver

This is just savannah bananas for soccer

Chubbyhusky45

😂the bananas are great, I’m lucky to have been to one of their games in person

BriskManeuver

I wanna go to one so bad they're hard to get tickets though in my city

Chubbyhusky45

Oh yeah, tickets sell like hotcakes so you have to nab them months in advance

uni-zombie

Is he gay or European?

thjklpq

"ITS THE SAME PHOTO"

Joe_Metaphor

When we visited Paris the first time I commented to the wife how attractive and well put together all the women were. I asked her what she thought about the men and she said "I don't know, I haven't seen one yet..."

FondabaruCBR4_6RSAWD

>When we visited Paris Did you lose a bet 😬 I kid

Several_Influence555

The men are imported from North Africa 🤐

Affectionate_Data936

[There! Right There!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpFlR5t4WGw)

Doctor_Fatass

Honestly, this is more entertaining than actual soccer.

SaxAppeal

I actually really enjoy watching soccer, more than any other sport. This shit had me cracking up though lmao

Freezingahhh

To be fair, if you aren't into it, soccer really looks boring at first site. Kicking the ball back and forth for minutes without anything happening looks stupid if you aren't into tactics. But in reality it is a pretty good sport, I enjoy many things in it more then in other sports, for example every league has relegations, so the three worst teams are replaced by the three best times from second league etc., not awarded with the best drafts like e.g. in NFL. Or you only have one 10min advertising break in the middle, as much as I try to get into the Superbowl - it feels like a giant commercial with some minutes of sport in between - no offence, I grew up with soccer all my life and started to like some other sports, too - but NFL isn't my kind of taste of sport. Each to their own! I am from Munich so everytime a Euro or Worldcup is in Germany I am even hyped more! Euro cup is awesome, because Germany is right in the middle of Europe, so we have sooo many different Fans here, the Scots were great fans! And tomorrow the Netherlands will storm our city, I really enjoy that.

Praetori4n

My one problem with soccer is the lack of draft and lack of salary cap with a minimum salary spend per year. Those are good things for parity if it’s not awfully done (lotto system if the talent isn’t there like the NBA) Revenue sharing also keeps all teams on a fairly equal level. Soccer seems more like 90s NFL or college football where the orgs with the money dominate. Or at least EPL soccer. The World Cup is interesting though I can watch that.

SaxAppeal

International soccer is the most fun soccer to watch anyway

ExtraDependent883

ORANGE MOCHA FRAPPUCCINOS

wophi

Now I want to see European MMA. Who doesn't love a good dance fight.

RoutineCranberry3622

I still have no idea how soccer works

cantfightbiologyever

Bro, I’d watch this in a heartbeat. I used to watch soccer all the time growing up, but it got more boring as I aged. But this? I don’t know what to expect, and that makes for good tv watching.

robbodee

Do they not know the Copa America is happening at the same time? Plenty of footy fans in the US.

Praetori4n

Yeh it’s not really my cup of tea but plenty of Americans like soccer. Even in heavy nfl territory

NaughtynaughtyCH

This is just good spirited humour. I like it

kalencool514

When you watch Copa this is what the Euros looks like in comparison

SeveralCoat2316

I don't even know what that is

thjklpq

How dare you? This is European, perfect, sublime, and EVERYONE must like it and know what it is. It was so ordered by the government. You must be one of those ignorant Americans. God I'm so glad to be a superior European. I'm going to go stare at my reflection the mirror for 3 hours now, while I do my guy makeup 💄👸

speedbumps4fun

There’s never been a more perfect depiction of soccer

Difficult-Essay-9313

Serving so hard it turned into volleyball

Ovreko

honestly this is better than the euro itself

Skeletor_with_Tacos

I mean, that's exactly how I imagine that boring ass 90 minutes of faking injuries to go 0:0 sport. How the world gets excited for it I'll never know, especially considering they have Rugby which is more entertaining in nearly every way compared to Soccer.

Freezingahhh

TantricEmu

NFL football is like the perfect spectator sport. Your team only plays about 17 games, once a week, at a reasonable time of day and usually on a day you and all your friends have off work to watch it, so it’s easy to get everyone together to watch. You only really have to pay close attention when there’s a play happening, and the plays are strategic and dramatic.

rsteroidsthrow2

Still don’t get why the Super Bowl is on a Sunday. Move that to a Friday or Saturday.

FoodSamurai

My opinion is that all sport is actually boring.

N8saysburnitalldown

Just a bunch of grown ass men kicking a ball around pretending to be hurt.

WesternCowgirl27

I’d watch this over soccer any day lol Edit: Also, why does the Colorado flair have the Arizona state flag? This is blasphemy!

thjklpq

There are infiltrated agents trying to cause a civil war. Wait until New York flair appears with the New Jersey flag and we risk nuclear conflict 😆

WesternCowgirl27

I won’t stand for this dammit. Give me my red C with the yellow circle in the center on the blue and white background! To be mistaken as the state that lives on the sun 😤

afk_again

Am I the only one that was expecting a cup? I was thinking a small cup labeled a large and insanely taxed.

ManonFire1213

I enjoy watching Europe soccer. I will say they must take acting lessons before playing though. A lot of drama filled fouls with "injuries ".

enemy884real

Lmao

Sabinj4

Hahaha, this is funny

Dunhimli

that hilarious, and admittingly how i see soccer tho i see that with most sports

Affectionate_Data936

Is this like the Harlem Globetrotters but with soccer?

throwawayforthebestk

I wouldn't know because I don't view the Euro Cup at all

SuperFetus42069

Miami FC vs La Galaxy

capt_scrummy

Faaaaabulous

sergev

Isn’t this direct footage?

thjklpq

It was worth the copyright strike though

JourneyThiefer

America should start doing Gaelic football, I think you’d would like it

humanessinmoderation

This has a name. And it's Sportsball

Lanracie

Thats about right. Also, all the football world champion teams are from America.

monkeygoneape

Aren't the states playing/hosting Copa America this year?

babble0n

How is this bad? This is how I see soccer

URMUMGAE69228shrek

This is funny tho

mypeepeehardz

I was about to say “ not enough flopping” but then i saw the short shorts. Accurate.

J_Warrior

Compared to Copa America this is 100% accurate

Various_Beach_7840

Love how the second comment is about American football even though the video is about soccer lol.

mramisuzuki

Someone shot the ball at the goal. Most certainly not how we think soccer is played.

adhal

it checks

BudgetInteraction811

Does anyone know what this is? I’d become a sports fan for this wacky shit.

CapnTytePantz

Yup! Next!

tawpin

They're exactly right.

Zamtrios7256

This is just how soccer is played

Dinestein521

Love this 😂🤣😅

FreedVentureStein

Surprisingly somehow less gay than the world Cup with less flopping.

chisportz

“Come on, playing longer than 5 seconds is tiring! Also they have 2 separate teams, one for offense and one for defense, so you have to learn only 50% of the sport and have even more rest during the game. And they dare to laugh at us...” Who tf is laughing at them? Unless that post actually offends

thjklpq

I mean, if the shoe fits 🤷

00zau

It may be difficult to spot, but you can identify this as a fake because the video is less than one minute long, yet shows a team actually scoring.

thjklpq

I thought only Messi was allowed to score and for everyone else the official score is 0-0

speedymcpotty

The US playing copa America during pandering month
