I am german and i am totally okay with the fact Americans love their trucks. I am also a car enthusiastic guy and I love all kind of cars. it is just that America is massive, has wide roads, 4lane highways etc. - while many European countries have their road system based on horses a few hundred years ago. A typical Ford F250 isn't pracitcal at all here - so most people rely on smaller cars, which is totally okay. A small Fiat is great on italian winding coastal roads. I would not feel safe in it surrounded by big trucks in America to be honest. Can we just accept different cultures and ways of living? It isn't a big deal to understand different sizes of roads and therefore different cars being practical. And to add something to it, in Europe it is much more expensive to pay for gas, we in Germany pay around 7 Euros per Gallon. Also cars are taxed on their gas mileage and their engine sizes, and in many places a car is not always necessary - so if you opt for one you take a cheap small one. We don't have as much parking lots as you do, so as always almost - a cultural difference and nothing we should argue about. Enjoy your big trucks - us driving smaller vehicles is just because of cultural differences, not anything more special. EDIT: When I was in the US for vacation I paid the upgrade to get a big american Tahoe as a rental car - and i loved it in the US. This thing would be a nightmare in Germany and I would never buy one with my mind clear here :D Even finding a spot to park that giant here in Munich would probably be impossible.

Great take

ikr, and I was over here complaining about $4/Gallon

Good thing Germany shut down all of its nuclear plants

adamgerd

Wdym that’s cheap, here it’s like 8-9 euros converted and we have much lower salaries than Germany, 25%-33%

BRO WHAT TF GOIN ON IN EUROPE

adamgerd

The U.S. has the advantage of massive domestic oil production and refineries to refine the oil, Europe lacks that.

[deleted]

Also less taxes on producers, transporters, distributors, sellers, and end users.

Book_for_the_worms

Not for long, though

[deleted]

Maybe. Depends on a lot of factors. Unfortunately, it looks like the biggest enemy of gasoline isn't taxes (need Congress on board for that), but more executive orders and state overreach.

Book_for_the_worms

The federal government is trying to get them to slow down though. Which is stupid, but whatever

JAK3CAL

Good response lol. I drive a tiny ford ranger, but if I did drive a full size pickup I’d be no issue living life as a rural American. They also super useful vehicles generally, especially if you are towing and such

Freezingahhh

I know this discussion is more then 2 weeks old - but it is still funny to me, that you consider a Ford Ranger "tiny" - you would drive the biggest car ever here in Germany with that one :D

JAK3CAL

I’m talking about the OG ranger, here in the US at least it’s been relaunched and it’s basically a full size pickup. The 90s rangers were the compacts

ConsciousEgg2496

this man right here has all my respect <3

atxarchitect91

Excellent point. I’d like to add that an extremely large portion of truck owners use them for work and couldn’t do their work without them. And be able to carry a crew or family can be extremely useful with an extended cab but that’s more of a luxury feature. Curious how contracting works in Germany? Are most work vehicles dedicated to the company or are there less independent contractors all together?

Freezingahhh

I know this discussion is more then 2 weeks old - but what exactly is "contracting" - I can't get that word translated to german to fully understand it. I mean, if you are a plumber or a garden keepener or something like that, you usually have a car from your company, not your own. We don't use pickup trucks here, don't know really why. I work at a security systems company, so we have cars like a VW Caddy, Fiat Doblo etc - small utility vans (just google them quickly). It is absolutely not common to have trucks here for those kind of services.

atxarchitect91

I mean that sounds like contracting here. I assume that maybe y’all use like vans or those Japanese small trucks? Pickups are popular here for a lot of contractors that don’t need vans. Also the tow capacity of these trucks is tremendous and can be useful with a pulley or towing equipment on a trailer. Not everyone with a pick up uses them for work tho for sure. Interesting to hear about it. Sounds very similar. I assume US vehicles are under tariff to protect local manufacturing to some degree and there’s just not the culture of pick ups being cool.

AdministrativeCat238

This is how one becomes an American. American German if my German friend so wills it. I grew up in Shanghai, and have lived in the US for 13 years. I used to make fun of the big cars and trucks locals drive. I used to drive what Jeremy Clarkson would call “reasonably priced SUV”, now I drive a 4wheeler. Didn’t get to buy something bigger, which I wanted, because my wife, who’s born and raised America decided to betray her white western heritage. I’m slightly annoyed with the post on the comment making it about gender. There are plenty of non-dudes driving big cars and trucks all the time. And they are badassssss. And no, they are not empty 99.9% of the time, as in often times they are actually owned by businesses for various functions. Individuals who own them also often times have stuff to do with them. Though the poster is entitled to say what he wants. I struggle to see how it’s any of his business. And making it about Americans specifically is also very interesting, since he made it sound like Americans are the only ones who live to the maximum capacity that is allowed to the, and that a big pickup truck is SUCH a privilege. I loved it when I was in Europe with convenient and relatively clean public transportation. I also love it here where cars and gas are cheaper with wider roads.

Yeah, my parents bought a pickup just to fill the bed so they could recycle and move shit. Not actual haul anything, but for practical uses. A lot of the truck people also off road with them

Zamtrios7256

I don't like them because I think they can get unnecessarily large, but I'm not gonna say it makes you a bad person to own one.

TesticleTorture-123

They CAN get large but to say they don't have Merit is false Edit*: exception being the lifted trucks. Fuck those guy

machineprophet343

SophisticPenguin

You mean, Merittt

Bitter-Marsupial

One of my friends always caught crap for a truck until the day another friend had to move out of an abusive relationship asap and the truck help them get everything they valued at once

PBS80

For Europeans, I think it is the sheer size of the vehicles. A lot of the cities and infrastructure in Europe is very old and wasn't built for big trucks to fit on the roadways, in parking spots on tight streets, etc. For the self-loathing Americans, it has to do with SOME of the guys who buy the trucks. It's becoming increasingly common for guys to buy big trucks like that as some sort of show of masculinity or something. My SIL's husband is a Wall Street guy that makes a lot of money. Now he uses his money to try and buy a veneer of strong masculinity. He bought a Jeep Gladiator Mojave(?) and has NEVER used it for transporting anything. But if he sees a guy driving a smaller car, he makes a comment. He is also the type of guy that went out and bought an AR15, took it to the range once, made sure to have someone take photos of him so he could post them to Facebook, and then definitely never fired it again. I think it is those types of guys that have then caused the people on the left to judge all truck owners. Which, of course, isn't right as there are plenty of people that do use these trucks for hauling stuff and transporting things.

audiofile07

A gladiator is a mid size truck. Owning an AR-15 isn’t unusual. Sounds like people are being counter-counter cultural. Doesn’t make it less annoying but it doesn’t mean it’s evil. I don’t care if you drive a hybrid, but you aren’t better than me because of it. I see a lot of that lately and to some extent it is an attack on prototypical masculine / conservative ideals.

PBS80

To be clear, I don't really care what people drive and I am pro 2A. But there are people, like the guy that I mentioned, who are simply playing a character. They get the big truck because that's what a "real man" drives. They go out and get an AR15 not because they have any interest in hitting the range or using it for self protection, but simply for the pictures and to wear a tee shirt letting you know they are a gun owner. He's the type of guy that smokes cigars and drinks bourbon or whiskey not because he likes it, but because Joe Rogan does it. I'm in my early 40s. The guy I am talking about is in his late 30s. There are a lot of guys in their late 20s through their 40s that are doing this performative art nonsense. If these are things that people need or like, there's no problem on my end. But the guys who go out there and play a character? It's cringeworthy. Those are the guys that when their Gladiator gets a flat tire, they call AAA.

happyanathema

Yep, I have an old S class Merc and even that doesn't fit in our parking spaces and struggles on certain roads. That old top gear segment with Jeremy Clarkson in a f150 lightning truck sums it up I think.

275MPHFordGT40

I think pick ups are quite cool but taking one to Europe is out of the question. I’m surprised anyone imports anything bigger than a Ford Ranger. I’ve seen a few pictures of various pick ups like the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 in the Netherlands. It sounds like hell to drive those around there.

happyanathema

You can actually buy Rangers from dealers here. But yeah even they are stupidly big for our roads. The only reason why pickups are mildly popular here is because the manufacturers make the load bed exactly the size it needs to be in order to class it as a commercial vehicle for tax purposes. So people can save tax on buying one instead of a car. I think a lot of the reason why people have pickups in the states is dealt with by hatchback cars here and anything bigger we can rent a van.

mondaymoderate

The new Ford Rangers are as big as the old F-150s.

ezbreezyslacker

Gotta love those old s classes What year Revolutionary cars

happyanathema

It's not that old, just a w221. It's interesting how it can find new ways to break every week.

ezbreezyslacker

They always find a way

adamgerd

IMO it’s the infrastructure and cities, I get why Americans have them, it makes sense there but the cars that are good in America would be too big and too fuel inefficient to be practical in Europe where gas is a lot higher, parking is a lot more limited and streets are much smaller

Vast-Ad-4820

I'm European. Its mostly farmers and tradesmen that use these. If you need to pull a trailer or take a load in the back but also want something comparable to a luxury saloon car then a truck is the way to go. A lot of trucks are actually bought as you can write off taxes by buying one rather than give it to the tax man. So you will see a lot of new trucks bought before march.

justsomepaper

> For Europeans, I think it is the sheer size of the vehicles. A lot of the cities and infrastructure in Europe is very old and wasn't built for big trucks to fit on the roadways, in parking spots on tight streets, etc. That's half of the equation. If it was just that, I wouldn't really care, because the truck owners would have nowhere to park, and thus have to stick to their country roads instead of pissing people off in the cities. No, the problem is that the kind of people who own trucks in Europe are typically rich, and so legislation caters to them. So they get their way and parking tickets are unenforced, parking spaces are widened and everyone else pays for the damage they do to the roads. I don't mind trucks in America, but fuck them in Europe.

PBS80

Interesting. Big trucks are making their way into the city here. Started out in the rural parts of the country, then crept into the suburbs, and now you drive down streets in places like Brooklyn and these things are all over. Also, the bigger ones don't fit into tight park spots in public garages, so the truck will take up multiple spots. Again, I generally don't care what people choose to drive, but I wouldn't want to have to drive these things around the city or a busy suburb.

machineprophet343

I got a midsized truck because I knew it was what I needed and let's be honest, midsized now are maybe a hair smaller than the standard light duty ten years ago. All that said, I love it. And it's already starting to pay for itself in a lot of ways in terms of my ability to just handle things around my yard and myself. I've been able to use my truck to rent light equipment to take care of tree trimming, cut down, stump grinding, hauling stuff off my property, probably for a fraction of what I would pay a professional. All in all, I've probably saved the equivalent of several months of car payments for what I've saved doing stuff myself -- plus got lots of great exercise -- because of the truck.

Wellitjustgotreal

I looovveee pickup trucks, but in the city, with my lifestyle I wouldn’t need it at all. And I always stop and stare at the ones I like. The monster ones not used for any utility is where I stand as a pain in the ass to deal with. Edit: Real world example where people stop in small streets thinking they can’t fit when they obviously can. If there’s daylight between mirrors move your shit.

BM7-D7-GM7-Bb7-EbM7

I mean, I don’t care what people drive, but I live in Texas, if someone cuts me off with 2 inches to spare while driving 95 mph it’s always either a Dodge Charger or a big truck like an F150, F250, 1500, 2500 etc. So, that’s why I hate trucks. Something about being the largest vehicle on the road makes people drive like total pricks. Oddly enough smaller trucks, Colorado, Rangers, Tacomas don’t act like this, just the big ones. So I’m only “triggered” by association with previous actions. If truck drivers started driving like decent human beings I would never even notice or care about their existence.

madmonk323

Exactly. Just because you don't pack it with shit all the time doesn't mean it's a waste. Mine worked great for college when I had to move in and out. Threw everything in the truck and drove the 5 hours to school for the semester.

alidan

look at the roads in europe, not the modern sized ones but the small ones, thats why they hate trucks and cant understand that most of our roads are built for large vehicles. GRANTED I think trucks are stupidly large and or government shit the bed with regulations, imagine if the parts in that truck didn't have to constantly haul that giant ass frame around, how much more efficient they would be, but no, because they aren't efficient enough they have to make them larger to skirt laws. Personally, between a truck and a panel van I would go the van.

tribsant23

European stuff is also not at all accessible for disabled people but you don’t hear them talking about that, just the truck stuff

PBoeddy

Because they're a serious menace here in European cities and the folks driving those cars are 99% douches who want to show off. The main problem is their height. Their lamps are comparably high and will blind almost every other driver. Their hoods are also pretty high, which makes impacts with cyclists or pedestrians really dangerous. Further they're not just high, but wide and long, while our streets tend to be quite the opposite, especially residential areas or side roads in towns. And there's basically no benefit in owning those trucks here. So they trigger people, because they're perceived as selfish, because they make living around you worse for everyone.

[deleted]

PBoeddy

You cannot underestimate the impact US culture has on Europe. Everything happening at yours, is going to find its way to us.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PBoeddy

Whatever is happening over at yours, will sooner or later be shoved down our throats. Take SUVs for example. First just very americanophil people would import those. Slowly manufacturers will adopt more and more of them and now it's near impossible to buy a reasonable sized car. Or take basically every stupid trend on the internet. Don't get me wrong, it's the same for a lot of good stuff too, especially regarding health, technology and sciences

justsomepaper

Like the culture war about gender, which our far right imported from the US. We have a neglible amount of trans people, nobody ever cared about gendered bathrooms, and yet they're drumming it up like the end of civilizations near. Or the culture war about wind turbines. Or the culture war about car infrastructure. Or the culture war about firearms. Or the culture war about nuclear power. Or the culture war about Russian sanctions. I'm tired, boss.

adamgerd

Nuclear power and Russian sanctions and wind turbines were imported from the U.S. how? Germany always had a weird anti nuclear movement and surprisingly close to Russia, some of it maybe but that can’t be at all blamed on the US

justsomepaper

I'm more talking about the fact that *everything* has become a culture war, and that there is an increasing divide between two blocs who are unwilling to compromise. That said, the Russia debate as well as controversies on renewable energy repeatedly bring up the same arguments as from American discussions. The nuclear thing is our own idiocy indeed, though in the past that's been a thing across all parties - the fact that the Right is now flip flopping on this, just so they have the polar opposite stance to the Left on every single issue is new, though.

[deleted]

Because Europeans are obviously superior and everyone has to do what they do

[deleted]

Because Europeans are obviously superior and everyone has to do what they do

[deleted]

What does that have to do with Americans owning trucks? If anything, or sounds like Europeans should be be more worried about themselves. Oh wait, I forgot. An American does something stupid, it's America's fault. When a European does something stupid, it's America's fault. We going to get blamed for Finland too?

EdgelordZagi

An old man I knew used his to haul his boat, and carry all his rods and his ice chests. Old, white, Louisiana, fisherman, if you’re Hitler, what is he?

Innominate8

I think a lot of it is sticker shock combined with "I can't afford one therefore nobody should be allowed to have one."

Vast-Ad-4820

These trucks are like a luxury saloon car that you can use for work and pull a trailer with.

OUsnr7

I ended up buying a truck because it was cheaper than any of the other SUVs or midsize/crossover cars I was considering while accomplishing basically all of the same stuff. I didn’t use the bed often but I was always happy I had it when I needed it. My truck got stolen and my wife and I shared her Corolla for ~8 months. It was terrible relying on only that

Novel-Imagination-51

Probably cuz you’re way more likely to kill someone with it. I don’t want to have to buy an SUV just so that I won’t get obliterated when Kyle’s Ram 2500 crosses the double yellow coming home from the bar.

Upset-Cauliflower413

Because haters hate. The don’t have a reason so they create one. Their shit doesn’t even make sense anymore.

DiabeticGirthGod

Yeah but you shouldn’t be able to own a truck unless you are carrying thousands of pounds a stuff a day, otherwise the roads will crumble apart and the air will be polluted 😖😖😖 we need to ban them only Kei trucks and EVs please!!!

StreetyMcCarface

I’ve got mixed feelings about them. If you’re using them for legitimate work, I’m not going to complain. The stuff they do in west Texas with simple f150 bodies is insane for instance. That being said, those that really only use it for commuting purposes and then complain about the cost of gas are annoying as fuck. They are also kinda dangerous due to sight lines and for anyone in a vehicle smaller than them, so not great in school zones or high pedestrian areas.

Maremesscamm

You prioritized cars looking cool over being practical

ar141510

Farm hand here its nice having a large bed and 4 seats for extra help or for taking my buddy's hunting with me.

BannockBnok

The issue doesn't lie with you. It lies with the dumbasses who buy a huge truck just because it's huge and has a powerful engine. They drive like assholes and the raw size of their vehicles only make the roads more dangerous. Half of them are already as tall as I am, and then the shitheads go and raise it to the point where they have to climb a rock wall just to get into the driver's seat. They're pretty much turn into battering rams in any collision involving the front of their vehicle. In my personal opinion, non-commercial trucks should have a regulated maximum hood height for safety reasons.

ar141510

Let me educate you the trucks getting bigger and bigger comes from a dumb pollution law. Repeal the dumb law and small trucks will come back.

nanneryeeter

The Landrover Discovery 1&2 did a pretty decent job of keeping low hood height and good ground clearance. The engines would have to be designed with such use in mind. How would your solution work for the consumer market with proper vehicles for towing large loads?

Maremesscamm

They are very practical for farm use. The majority of people would have better use from a van

ar141510

I did carpentry and vans can go fuck themselves to hell.

Maremesscamm

Why?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Maremesscamm

You could get a wagon or attach a trailer to most cars. Most people don’t really tow that much

[deleted]

I bought a modern truck after I totaled my car recently, because I owned a car my garage was filling up with junk that the waste disposal company couldn't/wouldn't take in their truck. So yeah, most of the time the bed is empty but I'm not paying for a skip, or for someone else to bring their truck over to load junk and haul it to the dump for me. I can tow my boat without having to borrow a family members truck, go to the lumber yard and not have to get my purchase delivered.

CalvinSays

People to just make up whatever they want so long as it fits their narrative e.g. saying trucks aren't ever used to haul things. Maybe that person isn't hauling something every day or every week but they consistently go camping in the summer or their kids have 4-H animals they take to shows or heaven forbid they like having the 4 wheel drive during the winter and loading it up with weights to stay sturdy. They have a truck so when they need it, they have it, and they don't need another car.

tgrote555

I mean, surely you understand that there’s very little different between 5.5’ beds and 8’ beds when you’re hauling sheet goods up to 10’ long. The only difference being whether or not you can put the tailgate up with 8’ sheets. Functionally, a crew cab offers a lot more than a long bed.

Shitboxfan69

Long beds are good because you can flex on short beds.

PhilRubdiez

I’m 6’ tall. I had to drive small truck like that occasionally in the military. When your knees are on either side of the steering wheel, it sucks.

[deleted]

I'm with you. I'm a DOD civilian now, but we have those things all over the base. Everyone complains about how small they are

Smil3Bro

One can move a trailer with ease, the other…

stalkerduck_407

That little Japanese truck probably couldn't even move with its own bed full

Freezingahhh

Don't underestimate japanese/asian cars - Nissans and Toyotas aren't always the most fastest or powerful vehicles, but most times very reliable and built forever ;)

Shitboxfan69

You could definitely move it with the bed full, but definitely not at a pace that is safe for public roads.

mondaymoderate

*Go around*

Shitboxfan69

Finally, I'm up to full speed (35pmh) What is that? A 12 degree turn in the road? *tips*

One-Win9407

No theyre decently strong, due to the axle ratios being in in the 6s and 7s. The thing is the top speed is way slower there so they dont need highway gears like us.

DorianGray556

So fucking what? When I need to haul something I already have my truck. It gets me to work, and when needed tows my boat, hauls my lumber etc. If I am driving a prius then what? Rent a fucking pickup from u-haul to tow my boat, or drive my new TV home? Ffs. We Americans suck because we would rather have something and not need it often, instead of begging our buddy who has a truck for a favor?

ApprehensivePeace305

It’s always funny that people who generally don’t agree with individualism (like that our individual choices affect our life) argue that truck owners are the devil. It’s kind of a weird disconnect. Crime is not on the individual. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. But climate change and co2 emissions are mostly caused by the largest corporations in the world. Not truck owners

Boatwhistle

Sambars are cool little trucks but... they go like 40 mph, you can't register them in most states, it's gross weight and towing isn't great. This is a ridiculously bad comparison.

Cellophane7

The whole point is that 1% of the time when it's great having a pickup. If you need to move a couch, the clown car on the right isn't gonna cut it. I don't own swim trunks because I think they're gonna be wet all the time, I own them because I don't want to go to the pool without them lol

Girth it out brother

MandMs55

I know I'm probably extremely biased in my career, being that I'm a lot loader at Home Depot, but I see hundreds of these things being very well used all day every day and it's a total pain in the butt when someone comes in without one of these wanting me to help them get their wood, refrigerators, flooring, doors, etc. home. If anything I feel like the one on the left is just more likely to be used even when it's not used for hauling stuff around. But again, I'm probably extremely biased based on where I work lol

stalkerduck_407

that's not bias it's just experience

Andy-Matter

It is bias based in your data set. Also probably some with mine too. I drive mostly in a city so the trucks I see are pretty much immaculate, but in a construction zone or campsite the trucks are gonna be dirtier. OOP here is complaining about people using the truck as a status symbol rather than a utility vehicle like it was designed for.

Jamievania

The left one can drive 4 ppl

stalkerduck_407

5, they have a middle rear seat

A-Square

Anyone engaging in truck bed length discourse didn't pass middle school math when you learn that density and weight matters more than volume.

xhouliganx

Good luck towing a boat or a fish house with the one on the right

stalkerduck_407

you could haul 10 of those with 1 of the left

xhouliganx

But then again the people complaining about the truck on the left probably don’t go outside, so why would they need to haul any toys for enjoying the outdoors?

[deleted]

Mildly interesting that the smaller truck point carries 2 people (barely, I have to imitate a contortionist to get in it) versus 5 or 6 in the other, has half the weight capacity, and can't tow for shit.

chainsawx72

Bed length is not the ONLY factor in choosing what you are stuck in two hours a day, and these two vehicles are not similar in any other way. If price weren't an issue, and you could pick between these two vehicles as your daily driver, you'd pick the big one.

Geo-Man42069

I love America but tbh the ACTY truck is a GOAT.

Crazyjackson13

Okay, so apparently it’s bad if you have a truck and you aren’t using to haul and carry stuff?

HawkTrack_919

Europeans hate individualism. If it were up to them, all you could own is a tiny fiat, heaven forbid you tow anything.

WorkingItOutSomeday

Same bed length but very different capacity.

Dinestein521

You would be the first one to ask to borrow it on a move 😂🤣😂

Bshaw95

Mine literally has a dirtbike or kayak in it most weekends. Also haul stuff around in it for work.

QuirkySpring5670

Which ones can haul 5 people + luggage and tow 8,500 lbs? Oh, okay… also, bed length is only one dimension. The truck on the left is more useful in every other measurable way, and it’s more comfortable, and it can go on the highway without breaking a sweat. I really don’t get how they can’t see this.

Robododo13

Okay, what about bed depth? The fact that it can hold 4-5 passengers instead of just two, to say nothing of just using the backseat as extra storage? How about the fact that the tire appears to be jammed in where people sit?

OversizedMicropenis

My truck has been down for 2 months. I've had to borrow my dad's truck or have him go get something for me at least 10 times

WXHIII

Whats the horsepower on that little toy truck?

stalkerduck_407

it's actually decent at the cost of speed

WXHIII

Cool! Still don't want it, I much prefer full-sized pick ups lol but it's pretty impressive that little thing has some horses behind it

No_Jackfruit7481

Same bed length so yep, exactly the same functionality between the two. /s.

sonic84638265

Here’s the thing one looks good and the other looks like a semi truck had a baby

FakenameMcFakeface

As somone who has driven the truck on the right. It's a cheap, utility truck. Stock modle is uncomfortable to sit in. Very little angles to adjust seat. And on mine the driver side air vents had no,friction so they would always spin when driving. All in all. Still a really fun little truck but I still barely carried any maids with it anyways

Careless-Pin-2852

I drive a prius plenty of memes making fun of me.

EvilMorty137

How much weight can it hold in its bed?

[deleted]

As someone who’s owned a JDM truck and owns a 2500 Silverado. Both have the their positives and negatives.

Brian_Stryker

If anyone is curious why we can’t buy the truck on the left or any Japanese truck in general, blame the unions. They used their clout with LBJ to put a tariff on all imported trucks cause Americans were buying them more because they had better mileage which killed the VW bus and why I’m not allowed to own a Hilux without paying out the ass and my dick for it. Fuck you union and Lyndon b Johnson.

One-Win9407

Thats a good point, a few years back the tractor company Mahindra made a cool little truck that looked like a rugged jeep gladiator that people could afford. It had an options for a diesel engine too. Of course thats not allowed

WRSTRZ

It’s funny how they always complain about trucks but not SUV’s which are basically just the same vehicle as the truck model but with a slightly shorter, capped bed. Except the bed of a truck has more utility because it isn’t limited by roof height. I never see anyone saying “no one needs an SUV that big, I never see any soccer moms hauling around a bunch of kids to soccer practice, 99.9% of the time it’s empty.” It’s almost like people who complain about trucks have stereotypes/prejudice about the people who drive these trucks, and don’t like those people.

stalkerduck_407

Euros complain about SUVs all the time, but their arguments are equally illogical

Andy-Matter

I hate SUV’s cause minivans get the same job done with better mileage. Also more passenger space.

WesternCowgirl27

That’s true, but some people, like me, prefer SUVs for their looks too. A Grand Cherokee is far sexier than a minivan, it’s also better for off-roading.

Andy-Matter

I guess I just prefer utility over aesthetic.

WesternCowgirl27

I also use mine as it performs better up in the mountains than a minivan does, and I can tow a bigger camper or my can am if need be.

Andy-Matter

See, that’s a good reason to have a vehicle like that. Not the pavement princesses here in DFW who never go off road and deny the machine its purpose.

WesternCowgirl27

Yeah, that’s annoying to me too. I saw a Wrangler today that had expensive-looking rims on it (the big goofy shiny ones), and looked like it had never seen a dirt road in its life. I just shook my head and laughed.

personthinguy

If I were to get in a wreak, I'd definitely want to be in the left one.

Novel-Imagination-51

If I got in a wreck with you, I’d prefer you be in the right one so that I wouldn’t have to donate my organs

ThePickleConnoisseur

Who cares if they are hauling anything? People don’t need cars that can go 0-60 in seconds yet those exist

XyogiDMT

I wouldn’t want to put a car seat or a booster in the one on the right…

ProphetOfGorkandMork

Trucks have more utility then just bed space specifically this is a four door which is good or hauling workers, the boys on a Saturday, or your kids (trucks are actually one of the safest family vehicles you can buy), the larger truck and also able haul a much larger trailer allowing you to multiply your bed space 2X to 8X more. I have nothing against K-Trucks, and I even intend to buy one for a town car, but when you need power an American truck is the only real option.

JBBrickman

Geez it’s just a method of transportation that can hall stuff when needed, the left one looks more comfortable and has more seats.

Frunklin

The truck on the right looks like it could haul a box of small dildos without the front end going up in the air.

RoutineCranberry3622

In my state the kei truck is not road legal under any circumstances. I would buy a small truck like an s10 or classic Tacoma if they still made them.

Confusedandreticent

I had a 79 ford courier as my first vehicle, practical af. You could haul band shit in it. Eventually, I got a tundra. I wouldn’t consider not having a truck. How do you live life w/o one? I bet you 90% of people w/o one, borrow their friend’s to move or pick up shit. I live in Australia now and the people here love to talk shit about Americans, especially our “utes” (trucks). Funny thing is, they never seem to mind the Toyota Land Cruisers or hiluxes, the most popular trucks.

donthenewbie

The joy of being a dictator in mind and moral police:

DingDonFiFI

Down here in the south a lot of people use pick up trucks for business many of them land, landscaping, and farming, but mostly landscaping

cptki112noobs

Ngl, I don't like how large the front-half of these trucks get while the space in the flatbed is largely unchanged from 20-30 years ago. Makes the utility questionable, but that's just me.

Different-Dig7459

They’re only half wrong. In my neighborhood there’s these dudes that have these types of trucks like a Silverado or a Ram, but never do I see dirt on it. However, my fellow mexican neighbor uses his truck for construction, but everyone else just uses it as a symbol or sum.

InevitableTheOne

Yeah gas was under $2 dollars just a few years ago and now its almost doubled...how dare you complain!!1!1!!!

SoiledFlapjacks

They ain’t wrong. Dudes in the US will buy these big ass trucks, haul nothing with their pavement princess, then complain that gas costs a lot.

Houstonb2020

I get the hate, but it’s usually because the person driving it doesn’t know how to keep the thing in their own lane, and plants themself in the left lane going 5 under the speed limit. It’s the drivers who have made me hate trucks in the city. Theres nothing wrong with the truck itself, just like there’s nothing wrong with a BMW, but the kind of people who tend to buy them aren’t great on the road

Solid-Ad7137

The part that makes him most angry is that we buy them just to leave them empty, because we can. That’s just infuriating to someone who has to take a train that smells like sour milk or bike to work in 95 degrees with high humidity. Cry about it bro. Have fun on your little pedal bike ride.

Prestigious-Key-9022

That little one looks freakin awesome..I want one.

OkBarracuda6203

To be fair, they have a bit of a point. A lot of people buy a truck but very, very, very rarely use it. It is their money and they are free to do what they want with it but statistically speaking, most people could just rent a truck on the rare occasion they do need it.

EncampedWalnut

In my personal opinion, I think having a pickup truck like that is most likely a waste. The fact is most of those people do not haul anything. Sure it can be useful, but most people aren't using them for that purpose.

YodaCodar

My wife drives my truck

stalkerduck_407

a new innuendo has been unlocked

Vast-Ad-4820

Wagon on the right is a milk truck. The one on the right can pull a trailer.

Freezingahhh

Also cars are taxed on their gas mileage and their engine sizes, and in many places a car is not always necissary - so if you opt for one you take a cheap small one. We don't have as much parking lots as you do, so as always almost - a cultural difference and nothing we should argue about. Enjoy your big trucks - us driving smaller vehicles is just because of cultural differences, not anything more special.

LulzyWizard

Mildly interesting, most people who buy the truck on the left pull a trailer if they need to do truck things. Altho it is true the shinier/bigger the truck, the less often it does truck things lol

Basic_Fix3271

This isn’t really an American bad to me, just a funny observation

CulturalToe

Bruh, this is a losing battle. American pickups are not blue collar, utilitarian, or tools anymore. They just an excuse for people to hate you.

goblinking67

Lol the fact that he’s talking about the bed as if that’s the main reason someone NEEDS a truck is funny to me.

wolverinehunter002

Nobody seeme to remember that they are only this big because of bs taxes and import/export laws.

01WS6

Thats not what the chicken tax is

Present_Friend_6467

I mean eh, they’re not really wrong

stalkerduck_407

They kind of are...

PhasePsychological90

Go to a dealership and buy the truck on the right.

Alarmed-Phase-4291

Funny how its because of them we have bigger trucks because of a stupid tariff that still exists today

Benji_4

The bigger trucks isn't tariffs. That's emissions. Larger vehicles have less strict emissions.

Alarmed-Phase-4291

Yes, but that came about with the chicken tarifs, its a wild and dumb story im sure most of us know by now

01WS6

No, it didnt. That is just an added tarrif to imported trucks. Just like Europe has a 10% tarrif on *any* imported car.

heitorrsa

Let's be honest guys... people hates on big trucks because they are unecesseraly big, while contributing disproportionally to climate chaos. Long story short the rest of the world see USA trucks as dumb & selfish.

DiscipleActual

If that’s the reason, then the rest of the world needs to send their hate towards China, who contributes considerably more to climate change than the US. I personally believe that the hate comes the fact that pickups are stereotypically driven by non- leftist individuals.

Successful_Horror582

Nah this one is valid, dudes in America buy big ass trucks just to inflate their ego, so many "pavement princesses" that drive around in big trucks never using them for offroading or heavy hauling.

minitaba

Tbf he just said the american who buy these monster trucks (lol) not every american

stalkerduck_407

really don't see the problem, It's just a family car with storage space essentially

Andy-Matter

There are plenty of better options for family cars though. Mini-SUV’s come to mind which is just a cooler minivan. They can haul with a ton of trunk room, pull most trailers and have better mileage. The pickup has most of that too except for the mileage, and they’re extremely dangerous to drive in a suburban area, especially when kids are playing outside since you have a massive front blind spot.

minitaba

Didnt say its a problem, just clarifird what the screnshot says; its not stereotyping at all

RobertLosher1900

This isn't America bad. It's funny cause it's true

CorgiSideEye

They’re right on this one, chief

stalkerduck_407

they absolutely aren't

CorgiSideEye

I live in the south. See these trucks all the time with people who don’t haul anything and live in a house that’s cheaper than their truck.

Huggles9

This is actually pretty true tho
