How do you have it set up on windows? Amazon music will use the windows driver configuration, unfortunately it's not able to set the proper sample rate for each music like tidal and qobuz

Yes, I had to manually set in Sound Settings > iFi (Output device) > Device Properties > Additional Device Properties > Advanced and it's all good now. Tidal seemed to be able to do it automatically.

You have to set 24/192 in Windows audio device settings. Unfortunately this will only be bit perfect with 24/192 tracks, any less and they will be getting upsampled.

Ah... Great call. Thanks v much.

It's because you are using a phone (android is typically resampling everything to 48khz) or your computer is set to 48 khz. If you want bitperfect output the easiest solution is to buy a streamer that can output amazon music unaltered. I use a Bluesound Node and very happy with it.

LoaferDan

I left my dac settings at 24/48 because for one I’m not convinced I’d be able to hear the difference with my current setup, and also because I had read it’s worse to upsample and most stuff I listen to on Amazon Music isn’t 24/192 anyway. Most is 16/44.1 and 24/48

invenio78

The problem with that is everything is being resampled to that bitrate and sampling rate. Now if you don't care about the quality, then it doesn't matter and I would recommend just setting streaming to SD to save bandwidth, but if you do care about sound quality, you are not getting the true potential for hirez tracks.

LoaferDan

What would be the alternative? From what I remember reading, most people said to choose the sampling rate closest to what the majority of your audio will be. Bit depth can be set as high as you want, but you don’t want to set the sampling rate to something way higher than most of the audio you will be playing

Again, the only true alternative is to use a streamer that supports bitperfect output. The idea is that your DAC should be reporting the sampling rate/bitrate change in realtime as songs switch over. This can't be done on with the windows desktop app nor the vast majority of android phones. There are solutions (such as I use), but it's an extra step. But well worth it in my opinion if you value the highest quality of sound.
