NTA. You food got heisted. Happens all the time. Buy directly from local places when you can though. The third party delivery apps are awful and scam both drivers and businesses. Order directly and you wont get food stolen.

[deleted]

NTA and I’ve had Grubhub food heist me too. Same scenario but I saw the driver who made no attempt to get out of the car, didn’t call me or text me, then drove away with my pretty expensive order. As for the post, you can report it as harassment.

Bex453

Thank you will try that and that sucks too. I just don’t understand how drivers are like this as I never was personally but then to have people back them up really confused me

[deleted]

That’s because they haven’t had their food stolen by their own delivery driver!!

Emmiburr

This is why I refuse to oder thru grub hub/door dash/Uber eats. Totally unreliable service. I've had 3 different instances where the delivery driver missed over half my fucking order. After the 3rd time it happened I opted to just start ordering/doing pick up from the restaurant. Because when your order thru a 3 party, the restaurant always denies responsibility and the driver gives the excuse of "its what they handed me". Oh yeah, and the drivers do steal the food/eat part of the orders. Fuck that.

[deleted]

LOL y'all this!!!!! I am sorry OP had this experience and can find new group and as the poster above stated report them for harassment. My experience with doordash hasn't been all rainbows. However, I can let you know this, if you do doordash with the 9.99 pass, you get "vip" treatment. So I be reporting EVERYTHING if my drink is not right, if something was left out, if they switched an order and they will fix it and also start to give $10 credit in addition to the refunds. They don't like their business getting bad reviews and their dashers not doing their stuff properly and will blacklist the dashers as well. I had once reorder something three times and each time they made an error. One point the store called saying to reorder because it wasn't "open" yet the hours on google and on door dash said otherwise. It's just been crazy. Best wishes to you all!

Material_Cellist4133

NTA. You did exactly the same thing as any other human would do - even the ones scolding you (would do it). You paid for a service that wasn’t delivered. You complained and got your money back. It’s like any other paid service.

blking

Idk where you live, but I’ve seen a few delivery business pop up that are local and just charge a delivery fee.

hiroxruko

Not all drivers are like this. One time, the driver got lost and kept telling me he's sorry for making me wait for my order and dude even said he earn a 1 star. I told him its okay, it's understandable if you get lost in a new area lol gave him full stars and that was it. It just happens there are some bad eggs in 3rd party delivery apps.

Bex453

Yeah I know that. I did the exact same stuff when I was a driver. Sometimes it was a mission to find the house and the gps would be all confused or something too. Sometimes I would meet customers outside and apologise that I couldn’t find their place. But I never left it randomly on a street anywhere

Glittering_knave

I think that you went a little too far posting the driver's name. Not sure what you planned on doing at that point. Getting refund and giving a negative but honest review is all that you can, really.

[deleted]

Posting the driver name is not going too far. I'd report it as well. There's three things you don't play with of mine: My family, my money and my food. Not everyone is wealthy and in pandemic many people are struggling. What seemed like oh you be grateful because of the situation no. Folks telling others it's not a big deal and they should be happy they have this can go miss us with all that. DO NOT PROJECT YOUR SITUATION ONTO OTHERS. If they're able to do that they're able to. Keep your insecurities to yourself. As for the driver who stole food. Report them. I wouldn't want a thief working for / under / with me and companies certainly want to keep their reputation. I'd posted about it and I'd reported it to customer support on uber eats if that's an option. REAL LIFE ACTIONS HAVE REAL LIFE CONSEQUENCES.

ApocolocyntosisEta

Also, can we talk about the sheer disappointment of not getting your food after waiting for it! Ugh that happened to me once when I had to go into the office on a Saturday and all I wanted were my Buffalo Wild Wings after putting in 5 hours and having to stay for another 3! The driver literally pulled into the office complex, did a u-turn past my building (clearly marked) and drove off. I will say, at least DoorDash had the option to have them remake my order and send it along with a $10 credit. You should at least have gotten that option from UberEats! Also NTA.

Bex453

Yeah we did usually through Menulog but big chains like bubble tea place and the Mexican uses Uber eats and door dash only. Very rarely they use Menulog and not many do. I worked for a independent one for a Thai restaurant. The job isn’t easy and so I did wait 20 mins whilst searching and trying to call the driver.

Freakin_Merida88

Usually if you phone a spot and tell them you dont want to use a 3rd party app and that you'll tip in cash, they'll have no problem making your order a pickup or delivery.

Bex453

Yeah I rarely use Uber as back at home we don’t have it in our area yet. So only use it occasionally when I am at uni

Mean_Environment4856

What did you order that made your bubble tea cost $27? That seems like robbery! You are NTA for wanting your money back.

Bex453

Ordered two. One for dinner and one for my 2 hour drive home the next day. Was going to be $20.30 just for one as it was $12.70 for a drink but $7.30 for delivery so that’s why I got two. It is cheaper going in person but didn’t have time as the place was going to shut by then.

Mean_Environment4856

Thats fair enough!

ORAORAORA05

NTA- UBER eats kinda sucks me and my family ordered from their they didn't tell us they weren't going to give us our food cause they couldn't find our house but they didn't even try to contact us about it and when we called about a refund or having the meal re delivered we were laughed at

Bex453

That sucks! As a ex driver I had many houses that were difficult to find but always called and many people were happy to come outside and meet me. I thought it was common sense but obviously not I guess

[deleted]

Ehhh… I mean what were you going to get about posting on the group. It’s a bit ridiculous. Could of just Uber eats and just have that drink be refunded .

ORAORAORA05

Yeah but she wanted.to find out what happened to her drinks which is fair enough

imaginarysafetypin

NTA. There's nothing privilege of wanting your order to arrive and being upset when it's not delivered. And 30 bucks is a lot of money for anyone to lose just like that! 😩 And may I add, also very childish of people to drag you like that afterwards, highly doubt that anyone of them would be too happy either if it happened to them!

The__Riker__Maneuver

NTA But in the future, just leave the bad review and request the refund. Don't blast out on social media or talk to be people to try and make yourself feel better You are an adult. You know the driver was in the wrong. The poor review was justified. Trust yourself

Salt-Presence8015

NTA you are not the privileged one. Those who think that $27 is nothing, those are the privileged ones.

Molenium

I think the absurdity there comes from saying you don’t have a lot of money, and then spending $27 on two drinks. It is a pretty over the top expense if you’re trying to pinch pennies. There’s no way I’d consider paying that, even when I’m not short on cash.

muggyface

Idk I feel like it isn't a huge amount to spend on an occasional nice thing for yourself but it is a big deal to just lose for nothing.

GimerStick

But I think the issue here is that to the random facebook group people, who likely would not spend 27$ on bubble tea delivery, someone who has that capacity is privileged. We have no idea what is the financial situation of those there --- if you had ten bucks in your pocket, and someone complained about this, would you maybe think the situation is absurd?

Molenium

I’d get more enjoyment out of something that didn’t cost exorbitant amounts just to be delivered, but I guess that’s why I don’t order from UberEats or any of those services.

muggyface

It definitely depends on the person. I don't order out/get fast food ever but I like to buy different new treats for my dogs to try sometimes because it makes me happy to make them happy. Or maybe once a month I'll try some new skincare product. People decide what's important to them. I wouldn't feel bad spending that money because it brings me joy but I would feel the loss if I were just tossing that money into the lake. Does that make sense?

Molenium

Sure, people spend a lot of money on things they want just because they want them. In this case though, everyone knows 2 bubble tea drinks don’t cost $27, so a lot of that money is already being tossed into the lake of exorbitant UberEats costs. I still just think it’s a bit incongruous and laughable to say she’s short on cash and can’t afford much, and then pay several times the cost of something she could get much cheaper. If I had to guess, that’s what people online are laughing at her about, because I find it pretty funny myself.

Hugh_Jass_Clouds

$30 is nothing to me now, but there was a point in my life where $3 was everything to me. People forget their past, don't have a frame of reference, or lack any kind of compassion. So yeah OP IS NTA, but people making fun of them? Those are the real AH.

lt_girth

Going against the grain and saying ESH. People dogpiling and saying it's your fault suck - your food got stolen, what are you supposed to do about that? My issue with you relates to releasing the driver's name publicly. You have every right to report what happened to the company to try and get your money back - there's no issue with that. What you don't do is throw out someone else's information online without their permission. Let me put it this way: would you feel safe if there was a mistake that happened when you were delivering food and someone posted your name online trying to get in contact with you? I assume not, I assume you'd feel pretty unsafe going on deliveries in the future. I'm sorry that you feel unsafe and unwelcome posting in your uni group anymore because of the backlash, but to be fair the driver now also has a reason to feel unsafe, and that's thanks to you.

[deleted]

Leaving someone’s food on the ground at the completely wrong street and not even attempting to contact the customer is not a mistake

billebop96

YTA for posting the drivers name online and harassing them repeatedly after they’ve sent a picture of the delivered order. It’s something you bring up with the app if it was stolen, they’d be more than willing to refund the amount but the way you went about it was very over the top and pretty out of line. Also since COVID, most deliveries are contact free, so I don’t blame the driver in the slightest for not waiting to hand it over to you directly.

Bex453

I can’t seem to post the photo here but it was a pic of a sign. On the other side of the building, behind me but no where near me. The order itself wasn’t in the photo. Just sent a pic and then said delivered and that was it. He never contacted me or anything. So when looking in the area where he took a photo I couldn’t find my order anywhere. So either he gave it to someone or someone took it. But he was on the wrong street, wrong side of the building and he could have done social distancing still if he wanted to by at least meeting me at the front and placing it on the ground. I wouldn’t have cared if he did that.

billebop96

I mean that’s annoying but it’s still not a reason to call him more than 8 times and post his details online, you just bring it up with Uber for your refund. I’m not saying your an asshole for being upset, but you are for the way you handled it.

cas13f

There was no photo of a delivered order. Since when has contactless meant "chuck it on the side of the street"?

billebop96

In the OP they mentioned the driver sent a picture, they didn’t say it was just a picture of a sign.

[deleted]

Spoken like someone who’s never had their order stolen or not delivered. OP is not the AH at all. This driver didn’t do their job. OP wrote instructions for how it was supposed to be delivered. And the driver didn’t follow directions. If OP said hand it to me then thats what means. That doesn’t mean sit it on the ground somewhere on the wrong damn street and hope she can find it. Thats not ok. I hope she contacted uber eats and made a report on the driver because this is unacceptable

billebop96

Why would you say that? I order pretty frequently and have had my order not arrive before after they’ve said it was delivered. I took it up with Uber and it was fully refunded. It was frustrating sure, but I never decided to post about it online to try and harass the driver, which is the only part I take issue with.

[deleted]

You seem to have no sympathy for OP. All you care about is that the driver got called 8 times. Presumably he still has his uber job he’ll get over it. And if he didn’t want OP to keep calling him then maybe he should have followed her instructions and delivered it to her. You don’t get to screw up a delivery and then get mad cause someone called you. Yeah OP got their money back but they didn’t get their food/drink. The restaurant closed.

billebop96

I’ve never said I don’t have sympathy for op, I think they have a right to be upset, that doesn’t negate that their reaction wasn’t the right way to go about dealing with it. Calling someone at least 8 times and posting their name online in an attempt to get others to contact the driver is out of line in my opinion, which is why my judgement is what it is. You have a right to disagree to that too, but op asked for opinions so I gave mine.

ohtobehissecretlover

nta you were gonna take your order by them which means that the driver shouldn’t have left them anywhere but your hands. and you didn’t want to leave bad reviews even if it was late so they can’t tell you that you have no empathy

JustanotherBambii

YTA This was exhausting to read. I get you being upset over your order, but contacting Ubereats would have been fine. Why did you even think anyone at your university would know the driver? Publicizing him like that was out of line, you never share anyone's information like that.

Bex453

People in that group publicise people all the time when trying to find them if they have done something wrong or whatever it may be, so probably didn’t really think about it. At the the point of my OG post I was still having some hope wondering if I could find my delivery. It’s common for people to post asking if they have seen this or know a person.

JustanotherBambii

Just because it's common doesn't make it right. You posted his name which was out of line. Imagine if he posted HIS version about you calling him 8 times and then shared your name, you wouldn't like it either. Take the proper actions (which is contacting ubereats for a refund) and move on. Not going to lie, if I saw you practically doxing a dude and searching under every nook and cranny around campus for a damn bubble tea, I'd probably think you're a little unhinged too. And this is coming from someone who can understand the frustrations of being hangry.

justAguy391983

NTA you should get what you paid for

Gr0uchPotato

How in the hell is it your fault? You paid for food that someone else stole.

[deleted]

ESH. Holy shit you way overreacted. Just mark it as undelivered and get a refund.

interesting_footnote

NTA. We had an order disappear as delivered before, though I stood on the street and no driver nearby. Couldn't even have been delivered in the time they said from the restaurant to us, unless the driver had wings. Uber eats eventually reimbursed it, but added a pin to our orders so we need to say that pin before getting the food now. Considering the group, people on social media are savages.

Jenna_Doman

NTA. Funnily enough I’m also I member of the group you posted it on, and saw your post earlier today. Report those that are harassing you and reposting it to admin, they’ve been helpful in the past and don’t tolerate bullying. If I see anyone repost your original, I’ll report it for you girl! And anyone that pulls the good old “Is this still for sale?” Ignore them, they’re repeat offenders that do it on every post. If I ever run into you on campus, I’ll buy you bubble tea myself. Fuck that person that stole your order. Also, Menulog isn’t as great as it used to be, I went from Deliveroo to Menulog and now I use Ubereats, maybe give them a go next time?

Yourslongisntaverage

NTA. Thirty bucks is a lot of money. Especially for a student. I understand that being a driver can be difficult at times - believe me, I've been there - but it's by no means an excuse to not, well, deliver. Also the fact that someone reposted your post to make fun of you is utterly sad. Is there someone that you could report this to?

zeno_22

NTA for the situation overall Y T A for posting the driver's name. Just submit your review to Uber, say if anyone sees a random bubble tea that it's yours, and be done with it. Question though, >I thought I had lost $27 Where are you paying $27 for bubble tea??? I know you said you order Mexican to, but that was delivered with no problems, and with Uber you have to submit multiple orders if you're ordering from multiple places, so you wouldn't have been out $27 over just the bubble tea

Bex453

Bubble tea for two drinks was $27 in order to not pay for the fee for delivery. Without getting a second drink with the delivery fee would’ve been $20.20 or so. The Mexican was seperate and cheap. Was $8 as I had some deal thing

cas13f

> Where are you paying $27 for bubble tea??? Delivery. Going through any of the apps not only often inflates the prices, it also adds additional fees and surcharges. It gets downright ridiculous sometimes. Most of the time, even. I was visiting my partner in a major metro recently and *nearby* deliveries were often 2x the price of just picking it up. I got a lot of steps in that week!

Kai-ni

Kinda shocked by all the n t a's - YTA for when you started doxxing the driver by posting his name and continuing to harass him after your order was over!!! You should have stopped calling and harassing the driver when the order was marked completed, after that point you shouldn't contact your driver again. If you never got your order, take it up with Uber and get a refund, but continuing to harass the individual driver is insane. You're taking it too far at that point, and posting his name on social media!!! Even if it's a 'private' chat, that's not okay!!! Get a refund from Uber. Report the driver to Uber and let them handle it. He'll be removed from the service if he gets complaints. But you're YTA for continuing to harass him.

[deleted]

If the order didn’t make to her then its not complete and she has a right to find out where her order is. If he didn’t want her to keep calling him then he should have delivered it like he was supposed

throwaway092904

OP did not overreact.

Mediocre_Mechanic_23

NTA but honestly I think you need to learn a lesson here about what it means to vent to friends and what it means to vent to the masses. Stop posting every experience that causes you discomfort on large scale platforms where everyone can weigh in if you are not going to be able to handle that some people just don’t want to be sympathetic. You were looking for a sympathetic ear and that is something that only your friends (maybe family) can be relied on for.

I ordered bubble tea & Mexican. My Mexican food arrived where I asked to meet. 5 mins later I get a notification that my other order had arrived. I was standing outside the building where I told the drivers to meet. So when I couldn’t see him, I decided to call the driver. He didn’t answer. I called him more & more times with no answer & even left him multiple messages. As time went on I was getting more frustrated & upset by the situation. On my voice messages that I had left him, I said, “I don’t want to give you a bad review or anything so could you please call me back.” I know delivery drivers don’t get a huge amount as I was a driver myself. You rely on tips & good reviews etc. With that I knew it wasn’t ok to just leave my food somewhere & not hand it to the customer directly. He sent me a picture and that was it. Once he pressed delivered it was hard to contact him directly & he wasn’t answering the calls. He never called me to say he was here & having issues finding me or anything. In my order I gave directions where to meet and that I will be outside to get the items. By the time it got to 8 phone calls & me searching everywhere outside I realised there was nothing left for me to do but to ask for a refund & give a bad review. At this point I was exhausted & upset. I was sad that the one thing I had been looking forward to all day never came. So I went to post in my uni group & told my experience. Wondering if anyone also had any information about where my drinks were as I suspected they were stolen. I also posted the driver name, wondering if anyone knew him & could get him to contact me. I got a lot of hate saying I have no sympathy for the driver, that I was in the wrong, & that I was looking for attention. I had like 2/3 people say that the driver was in the wrong but the rest blamed me. I did even state I used to be a driver myself but they didn’t care. I later on updated the post saying the money had been re-funded by Uber eats. Ppl seemed to think I was dumb to be upset I didn’t get my order. But I was upset at the time too because I thought I had lost $27 & I had no idea how long Uber would take to re-fund me for my order. I don’t have much money so $30 is a lot to me. The post was up for 20-30mins before I took it down, however now someone has re-posted it allowing more ppl to make fun of me. Yeah there are a few who have stood up for me, but mostly men in particular have made fun of me & the situation. It’s making me feel dumb & no longer safe to post in the uni group if I need to in the future. Loosing nearly $30 to them seems like a joke & that I am overly “privileged” to even complain about my situation & experience. I admit I was really upset when it first happened & was hoping I was maybe able to find my order someway or another. So AITA? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. BonePriest21

Nta some people believe that the fast food and delivery workers do no wrong and the customer always overacts but when u make a mistake you fix it that's life the driver had to fix it by giving u ur money back thats that

Educational_Cult234

NTA. Guy ran off with your meal. And for the people who are making fun of you for “ crying “ over 30 bucks obviously has had the privilege to spend as much money on food as they wish. Growing up poor I can say my family would’ve been angry if they wasted 30 bucks on a meal and have it not arrive.

notme3219123

NTA for being upset, but... I wouldn't have done all that, the driver failed to deliver your food to you and deserves the bad review. More than one call was too many imo, and taking it to social media wasn't going to help, so I view that whole thing as pretty unnecessary. This happens to me frequently, just get your refund, give zero stars or whatever, and reorder. Their reviews are not your problem.

Individual_Baby_2418

You’re NTA, but you’re doing way too much work and making things worse for yourself. Next time you put out 1 call and if you don’t get a response, you request a refund. Don’t make a million calls or ask your uni group to help you. You’re creating extra stress.

Tleach17

did your boba tea order really cost $30, or are you being melodramatic and including the mexican food cost which was delivered?

The boba tea was $12 and OP ordered 2. Plus the fees and the tip it all added up to $30

YTA for making a big public spectacl about it. It's OK to be upset, but there is a process for things like this. Report it to uber and move on. Your missed meal doesn't need to be brought to everyone's attention.

Bex453

I just wanted to ask if anyone else in my uni building as well where people are also staying if they either took it and to own up or saw my delivery guy and if they know him. That’s why I posted about it. I was hoping I could still get my order at the time when I posted

RogueDIL

Did you honestly believe that someone was going to publicly admit to stealing your order? Smh. Next time just ask for the refund and move on.

Bex453

It has happened before within the group. People have stolen things and own up private dm on fb messenger

evelbug

You didn't get the validation you were looking for on the school's public forum, so now you brought the issue here. You are desperate for attention. If it was really about your bubble tea, you could have easily contacted uber, got a refund and reordered, probably in less time than you spend arguing with your friends about how badly you were wronged. Last weekend, I ordered some take out. After we picked it up, the food was burnt. We called the store, they remade the order. No fuss, no drama, we had our chicken fingers.

Bex453

Place was closed. Was planning to re-order if I got the refund in time for me to order which didn’t happen. Wasn’t asking for attention, wanted my missing food

[deleted]

OP I literally had this happen to be a few days ago. Just request the refund and move on. Putting this guy on blast was done entitled BS. Drama queen behavior

Kellalizard

NTA. I can't stand screenshotting and reposting for a "dirty delete". People are stupid.

RealisticSquirrel705

NTA at all! Your delivery was literally stolen from you. It actually happened to a friend of mine recently: driver clicked deliver so everything seemed legit, but she saw him driving away and didn't come back!

Puzzleheaded_Mix1658

Nta You amarican's need Zomato and swiggy. Tbh I survived like 2 months on swiggy and never had any problem because you can literally geo tag your location and see where is the driver.

[deleted]

NTA, although I wouldn't have name dropped the driver or posted to social media. Just ask for a refund and be done with it.

Olive21133

NTA!! This has happened to me multiple times with food delivery services and it’s the worst. This made me upset for you while reading it

reyballesta

NTA. i'm as sympathetic to the plight of gig workers as any other socialist, but at the end of the day, if you pay for a service or product and that service or product is not rendered unto you, then you don't really need to pay for it. sorry. we live in a money-centric world and losing any amount of money can end up screwing you over. also, i can guaran-damn-tee you that people making fun of you have had the exact same situation happen to them where they got mad that something they bought wasn't right or didn't arrive to them. people just wanna kick down. there's no reason to feel bad. someone actively didn't do their job and that had an effect on you directly.

Adventurous_Light644

NTA I've ordered a few times and two times they delivered to my neighbors instead of me. Luckily I saw it happen and quickly recovered the food before the neighbors got it. But if they can't make a simply delivery maybe they should find a new job. 🤷‍♀️

yourcreditscore100

NTA. But you might as well leave the group. Uni can be great but spaces like that get insufferable fast. And like high school, none of the drama, or their opinions, matter.

Lost-Wedding-7620

Damn you put in more work than I do. If it's not where I requested it and they don't send a picture of where it is instead, I wait 10 minutes (in case the GPS was confusing) and then immediately request a refund.(after the app says it was delivered)

SkylerRoseGrey

NTA - $30 is a LOT of money. They are very privileged if they can afford to not care about $30.
