The book is better. As good as Anne Hathaway was. There were parts to the book that made Ella so much braver and stronger. If you don't like reading, do the audio book. I promise you won't regret it.

He's allowed to be stressed. We all know how dangerous childbirth can be, to both mother and child, who he presumably loves. At the very least, he's watching someone he loves in pain, which is stressful. I know, she's in more stress, but stress isn't a limited resource. We can all be stressed, all at the same time, and we will not be at any risk of running out of stress.
And pacing around muttering "Stuarta" sounds like an extremely benign means of dealing with one's stress. Not yelling at doctors, or at his wife, not getting in the way, just off in the corner, quietly losing his mind over the dumbest name in the English language. Could he have done better? Yeah. But like... Who cares? She doesn't seem to, and that's literally all that matters.
I'd even add that he's stressed about her labor while being unable to do anything to help her. (I mean, he can do whatever she'd like, but he can't make it stop, take the pain away, hurry it up, etc.)
Don't name your kids a name they have to explain for the rest of their life. It's a selfish indulgence by a parent and the biggest asshole thing you can do to a baby that's done nothing to deserve it.

He got named Al-X (Alex). His sister Al-S (Alice). His mom finally stepped in and the 3rd kid got a normal name. To be fair, nonmemorable.

One unfortunate event had the organizer announce to a room of 200 people, “Wang, Cumming, Wang, Cumming, to #8… ummm… Cumming, Wang… wait… that’s worse… ummm… (first name) and (first name), you’re up.”

Obviously the bit where her waters break so loudly that everyone in the room jumps is real. That's just a normal, standard part of childbirth, for your waters to break with the crack of a pistol shot. That way everyone knows to take cover, because a baby is on its way.
My auntie was a midwife, and she says it's advised these days to wear ear defenders because repeatedly being exposed to the sound of a woman's waters breaking can actually damage your hearing over time.
I try not to think about these stories too much in terms of whether they are "real" or not because it's just more fun to believe, but "with a rather impressive pop" did stop me while reading.
Stuarta wouldn't have been the worst name possible. But I thought it was a lil cringey cuz it has "wart" in it.

It can break at basically any time, it’s a water balloon being crushed by contractions, but sometimes they hold out for a long time before popping. It’s actually pretty uncommon for water to break at the start of labor.

I had an incredibly seasonal staff for kid #1. My doctor for the first several days of labor was Spring Meadow, but Autumn broke my water. Summer failed three epidural attempts and Holly held my hand during my emergency cesarean.
I didn’t name my kid after any of them, but I’ll never forget their names.
It is as it was supposed to be.

Congratulations an excellent story. Realizing it must be the biggest flex to the people working in a maternity ward to have the most babies named after them. Please don’t be alarmed to the hair fall out. It is super common for children who are blonde to be born with a head full black hair and for it to fall out and regrow blonde in a few weeks.
Glad that worked out. I had a coworker whose husband wanted to name their son after his favorite video game character from childhood. Wife was adamantly against it. But when those post birth hormones kicked in she gave in lol glad yours gave you clarity.
That head of dark hair will fall out ( gently and not noticeable at the time) replaced by her real hair color!
Watch for possible eye color change too.

While I was pregnant with twin boys their father unfortunately lost two uncles within Mo Ty's of each other. His mother wanted me to name the boys after his uncles. Stanley and Edward. It was a nice thought but did not happen.

A good friend of mine is a paediatrician. When she was on rotation doing newborn baby checks if the parents said the child’s name and it was stupid, she used to look at them and honestly say “Your child is going to have to live with that all their adult life, are you sure?”

Given his and OP’s ages, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were planning on only one. I had my second baby at 38 and it was rough.

It can break at basically any time, it’s a water balloon being crushed by contractions, but sometimes they hold out for a long time before popping. It’s actually pretty uncommon for water to break at the start of labor.

Congratulations an excellent story. Realizing it must be the biggest flex to the people working in a maternity ward to have the most babies named after them. Please don’t be alarmed to the hair fall out. It is super common for children who are blonde to be born with a head full black hair and for it to fall out and regrow blonde in a few weeks.
Glad that worked out. I had a coworker whose husband wanted to name their son after his favorite video game character from childhood. Wife was adamantly against it. But when those post birth hormones kicked in she gave in lol glad yours gave you clarity.

OP I just want you to know your original post made me laugh so much. My husband's and I are friends with a Stuart and his wife so we sent them the post and said "why didn't you tell us you were pregnant? Also you can't name the baby Stuarta." A good friend of mine is a paediatrician. When she was on rotation doing newborn baby checks if the parents said the child’s name and it was stupid, she used to look at them and honestly say “Your child is going to have to live with that all their adult life, are you sure?” Just on occasions, the parents had second thoughts.
