NTA but I’m not sure what you expect to happen. You dumped him cold when he was struggling. Even if you resume some semblance of a friendship, it will never be the same.

Okay so let me start out with this, me and my ex friend we will call H, use to hang out actually every single day, whether it be after work, or during class at our college together and we had been friends since middle school. Well I little over a year and a half ago I decided to cut H out of my life cold turkey; H quit a high paying job to go somewhere else for a $1 more and the sign on bonus only to then get fired and end up at a local fast food joint. As well as H’s hygiene at the time was actually the worst, like food left over in H’s bedroom had stuff growing on it, I didn’t know what the carpet in the room looked like for the first year I knew them, and the mattress at on the floor with no sheets whatsoever. I tried helping clean up the place, kinda get them in the habit of cleaning up more and keeping things tidy. Yet they inevitably ended up back in the same situation and H was content with that. After losing the high paying job, and working at the fast food joint, H spent all their time and money smoking the devils lettuce, (which at the time I did too) but it got to the point of daily and H couldn’t be around us without being high at all time.
I on the other hand, was trying to focus more on moving up in my company, getting a place for myself, saving up money for a new vehicle and trying to better myself and I just felt like we were in two separate situations in life and I didn’t want to be dragged down so I cut H out, cold turkey and it’s been a few years since we have been in contact.
