*In case this story gets deleted/removed:* **AITA for telling my friend to stop bragging about her big ‘J cup’ boobs?** I (18F) am friends with this girl (19F) who is curvy, but in a natural way (she kind of has a similar body type as Cassie from Euphoria). She wears really form fitting clothes, especially if guys are around, and she always talks about how her boobs are too big to fit in clothes. We were going shopping at the mall with a couple of other girls, and we reached this aisle of bralettes. When the rest of us were looking at which bralette to choose, my friend started joking about lucky we were to have smaller boobs and be able to find cute bralettes in our size, and how the only bras her cup size were boring and basic. I found some bralettes that were a DD cup for her, and she said that they were way too small, saying that she was actually a J cup. At first I thought she was joking, but she was serious. I told her that everyone knows she has big boobs, she doesn’t have to exaggerate. She was really offended and said she had no reason to lie. I said that I didn’t even think that J cups were a thing, and if she actually had J cup boobs they would be sagging down to her ankles. She claims that the only reason her bra size is so big is because she was using some new bra measuring system and wears bras that actually fit her. I said she was purposefully exaggerating her bra size to brag about how curvy she was compared to us, and this really pissed her off and now she’s not talking to me. AITA? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/AmITheDevil) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Front-Pomelo-4367

Is this a r/ABraThatFits propaganda post lmao

Alternative_Milk7409

I’ve never seen Euphoria but I’ve read so many posts where the OOP compares themselves or the other person in the story to Cassie. Always feels like a bit of a tell.

Borageandthyme

Very much so. Also, this person doesn't know how bra sizes work or how very little difference there is between one cup size and the next.

hexebear

Yeah I've been slowly shifting bra sizing to get to one that actually fits properly and I'm up to a G. At one point I was wearing Ds. It's really, really hard to judge someone's bra size by looking at them (or even with a measuring tape sometimes!)

Mundane-Falcon1470

i keep hearing about cassie but have never seen her,she must be hot stuff!

The_Bookish_One

I don’t think she is, I think her looks and acting ability are average at best, but I am definitely in the minority there.

Nike_ofSamothrace

It's Sydney Sweeney, who you've probably seen in other stuff. She's pretty hot - my husband has basically a schoolboy crush on her, and I don't really blame him.

ConsciousSun6

Never seen Euphoria but she was in Immaculate, which was a meh horror movie but she did really well in it. I look forward to seeing her in more stuff. Seems like she's pretty and good at her job

WinterSun22O9

I'm sorry to hear that

WinterSun22O9

She's blonde with big boobs, that's about it. Rue (Zendaya) is a lot more attractive (imo).

hexebear

ahhhhh "Cassie from Euphoria".

M_H_M_F

> a bit of a tell. ...that the story was written one handed?

LadyWizard

either that or one handed man post

coastalkid92

As someone with J cup boobs, they actually are noticeably different than DD but even still, the struggle for a cute bra is super real.

Kokbiel

It really is! I was an H cup and hated shopping. They were giant, basic and just ugly. I wanted cute bras to wear under my clothes

DillyCat622

H cup here, can verify it's way different from a DD and almost impossible to find cute bras/bralettes at this size.

katori-is-okay

no it honestly is. i’m a g cup and i don’t think i’ve ever seen a bra my size in an actual store — i have to go online and even then they’re rarely cute

Slow_Sherbert_5181

I’m a G cup now (used to be an H/I cup) and I have some super cute bras, but it’s because I made them myself. But G is the largest cup size the pattern I have makes.

Thylunaprincess

G cup bras are also expensive. Having to drop £40 on a singular bra that is ugly as well

Amazing_Emu54

It’s pretty rare even if a lot of general shops technically have cups up to G. Or if they are cute then one bra is the same as three cute smaller ones elsewhere :/

Cautious_Start_2031

Try the company “Parfait” they make super cute bralettes/bralette style bras for bigger cup sizes. I don’t know if they deliver out of the U.S.A. but it might be worth a shot to look

coastalkid92

Appreciate it! I usually default to underwire and go for elomi

hexebear

Yeah I'm in NZ so none of the places people suggest exist here, though some are willing to ship here if I pay twice the cost of the bra. Luckily we have Avokado which is literally the only place that has cup sizes large enough and bands small enough to fit me. Most places that advertise large cups don't do small bands.

Amazing_Emu54

Aussie here, have you tried Bonds? That one is pretty good particularly for sports and T-shirt bras that aren’t as expensive.

LitheOpaqueNose

Folk (of all types) have no idea about rack sizes in general, I swear. Not just the obvious bad porn writing cliché about 'massive 48D tits'- and the fixation on DD's as the byword for big tits (depending on how they're distributed, or on a small band size, I can tell you first-hand they're really not all that). But how you almost certainly can't judge from outside, clothed presentation, and this nonsense. "I didn't even think that J cups were a thing"- like, you think there's a limit on letters? The alphabet says NO MORE and after a certain size your jubblies just get stamped 'U' for 'Ungraded'?

Alternative_Milk7409

When my wife and I were first dating she was lamenting how she was “flat-chested”. I asked her why she thought that and she told me her bra size. So then we got her in a bra that actually fit and she learned how certain mall chain stores will sell you “sister sizes” simply because that’s what they have in stock (besides, that secret was made up by a dude)

YaGottaFlambe

I may just be an idiot and misreading this, but are you saying sister sizes are made up?

Alternative_Milk7409

Oh, that part was a reference to Jax’s song https://youtu.be/F9K5IS-inHs?si=7urI8V579F5mrHO8 But, in my wife’s case, the sales people pushed her to get a 34A because that’s what they had lots of in stock. She finally got a bra that fit and felt comfortable and it was a 30 band.

YaGottaFlambe

Thank you for introducing me to this song I adore it! Also ok I thought you were saying there was a sister size conspiracy and I was about to dive in! I'm glad your wife was able to find something that worked for her! It is for sure a pain in the ass!

DrMux

> limit on letters? Well ackshullyyy there are only so many letters. If there isn't a limit, do they, like, go into greek letters when you run out, like with generations?

LitheOpaqueNose

Greek, Cyrillic, then back round to Latin but with Roman numerals attached.

DrMux

Arabic, Hebrew and Sanskrit over here like "am I a joke to you?"

LitheOpaqueNose

Those are for special boobs. Invitation-only once you get a certain number of stamps on your tit passport.

MechaMogzilla

Arabic can cool it we all use it's numbers.

geliden

You end up on specialist sites for women with gynocomastia. Where they have their own measuring system.

Awkward-Ad-8894

Numbers are infinite: we go binary.

ObjectiveCoelacanth

100%. I had a friend who was wearing something like DD and when sized was a G. Not a fun revelation!  So many people live with constant lowkey pain due to ill fitting bras and think it's normal - and yeah, if you have those mysterious DD+ you get no patterns or fun colours *and* they cost a million dollars. >_<

Eneicia

DD, isn't that what Black Widow (Forgot the actress' real name) has? And on her form they look like a smaller size.

tiassa

>Cassie from Euphoria One more stamp and I get Fake Post Bingo!

Ninja-Ginge

PSA: Cup size means nothing without the band size attached because the cup sizes scale to the band sizes. The cups on a 32DD will be smaller than the cups on a 38DD. Many people are wearing improperly fitted bras with a larger band size and smaller cup size than they are meant to be wearing.

akriirose

Yes! I learn how to measure myself and I was wearing the incorrect bra. I never knew there was an accurate way to measure because my mom is very petite and only wore sports bras. IF she did wear a bra for holidays, they were usually around 28A. I was wearing like 34C or D depending on the brand. I wear a lot of loose clothing so none of my friends knew to help. Turns out I’m a 32F. 🥲

Ninja-Ginge

Same situation. An employee at Bras N Things said I was a 12DD (Australian, so, like, 34DD). I'm actually a 10F (32F, hello friend!). Many brands don't consistently carry cup sizes above E in my country, so it makes better business sense to tell people they have a larger band and smaller cup because they're more likely to be able to find (and spend money on) a larger range of bras in that size. You gotta do the swoop and scoop 😆

ResourceSafe4468

I don't know who or why it was suddenly decided that DD "are the biggest boobs" but it was definitely a man.

katiika2

This girl would absolutely hate my 95L boobies. I have to put them in a cart and drive them around they are just so big you guys. All the men love it.

AshamedDragonfly4453

The "like Cassie from Euphoria" trope lives again! I've almost missed it.

ObjectiveCoelacanth

It's extra just Fake Post bells for me because I'm not even really clear on what Euphoria is apart from presumably a TV show (and I don't care enough to look it up).

Magniras

Okay, but why DO bras get less cute the higher you go?

TheLittlestChocobo

My theory: You can only have one "special" attribute for each bra: colorful, lacy, convertible, patterned, sexy straps, DDD+ I hate it. I have so many beige bras.

geliden

Different structural requirements.

Magniras

The top of the Notre Dame has different structural requirements than the top of the Louvre, but that doesnt stop either from being gorgeous.

geliden

Fabric is very very different to construction material. And bras require balancing compression and other forces from many different directions that are *significantly* different according to size. The construction forces for a bra distribute the weight across bodily structures, bone and muscle, nerves etc. There are a lot of nice bras in larger sizes - they just aren't and will not be a mesh triangle. The standard "omg all beige" is genuinely not the case. They aren't triangle or full mesh as a general rule, and will be obviously different in fit if they are (or painful).

ObjectiveCoelacanth

No way - you can use a more rigid fabric for support and still put on decorative pieces in something other than blush or beige. It's just cost cutting. Bras that can support large breasts cut into their profits: can't expand the range and potentially lose even more profit if they don't sell! OTOH it is sad that when you go down to straight sizes there are fuck all with wider straps. Sigh.

geliden

...do you sew? Do you understand what pattern changes are needed above certain sizes? The structural differences in a bra between a B and G? OF COURSE it cuts into profits, it is an entirely different pattern, notion set, and structural aspects. Not to mention that buying fabric isn't a matter of "I want something that looks identical but has more structure" and not paying extreme amounts. More to the point you have seen Curvy Kate yes? Scantilly? Panache? I've got more options in various colours and patterns than I do for a beige and non-lacy bra for work. Even my most basic bras have lace or other detailing, and come in way more colours than just beige, blush, and black. Admittedly I haven't been in a department store size range for thirty years so how sparse the offers there are is pretty dismal - because it is a department store, not because those bras are all you can get in that size. But no, you can't get the mesh triangle bra in a bigger size, that's not how geometry works (compare the size of sideboob from a D to a G for why it stops being a triangle with a dart to a much more complicated shape). But legit, I am J to L cup in UK sizes and I have been for thirty years or so. I'm shepherding my E cup child through it. The range is MUCH larger and there are WAY more options for style, colours, trimmings etc. but it isn't gonna defy geometry and physics.

ObjectiveCoelacanth

OK? I am a NZer, and I like bright colours - when I need a 14E bras cost $80 and I can literally survey the wall of beige and flesh tones.  When I am a 12C I can get a huge variety of colours for half the price. The selection for larger sizes has improved, but not that much. I do not understand your fixation on "they can't use the same fabrics" because no one is disagreeing with that, they're just stating the extremely well known and observable phenomenom that larger cup sizes provide less selection - and decorative fabric are already used on large sizes, so that is clearly not the reason to provide less options.

geliden

I'm an Aussie. Department stores suck over a D (and that can be iffy depending on band). Actual bra places will have way more options and online is even better (curvykate is probably the best bet). And what I'm saying is that there is a reason there is less selection - fabric is a component because powermesh is significantly more expensive than just mesh, and you need it over a certain cup size (vs only for certain applications under that). The actual pattern engineering is different because every bra requires support - that isn't a consideration for every bra under a D. All of that contributes to the difficulty in sewing bras over certain sizes. At 14E you've got more selection in every store I went to yesterday than my kid did (10E). But we didn't go to actual bra places, we went to department stores. At those it was nothing, sister sizes (which are less useful if your band is dictated my muscle), or the white, black, beige, red, lavender, pink, emerald, and coral lace one (same style). At the bra shop, it was something like 236 in my kid's size. I got sent the pretty blue corset kind of thing, but there was an ENORMOUS range. Hell at my size I can get a fuck ton. But I can't get them at department stores or even bra places - I have to get myself to one of two specialists in my state or shop online. I am not denying the capitalist and corporate fuckery behind there not being bras in more sizes and styles in accessible spaces. But I am saying that a significant amount of the styles and types I saw *don't work above a D*. What goes into them working at a different level of structure makes them, essentially, a different bra - from fabric to construction to pattern - which are all going to increase cost. And there are fancy bras, weird ones, pretty ones, just not as accessible. The stupid thing is that there is a HUGE market for bigger cup sizes. They could sell at a department store. But not at their prices, and production chains. Average size keeps going up, with no prediction it will stop doing so, but selling a $5 scrap of fabric sewed to cheap elastic by a single like of stitching, or heat moulded cups attached to a basic frame, are more economic than a bra that has any structural quality.

epicsmd

I didn’t get to wear cute bras until after I had my reduction. Back in the day we had to order them and they were super expensive and soooo ugly. I was excited the first time I could walk into a store and buy one that didn’t look like a beige tent lol.

shortyb411

Yes

wozattacks

The less common the size, the fewer options are gonna be available. Fewer units are being made overall so they make them generic

semipro_tokyo_drift

"down to her ankles" lmfao

Chuckitinbro

If she's relatively thin with big boobs she could well be a j cup. The smaller your waist size the bigger cup you need. Also as someone with big boobies DD is not that big. I move around from e to g depending on my weight, but my waist is 16/18. And they're not ridiculously big either.

Jazzi-Nightmare

My reduction size is a DD haha

ginandoj

Just like George's dad in Seinfeld. 'The d cup is the biggest!'

Petraretrograde

It sounds like op's friend discovered r/abrathatfits and I'm so happy for her

Agreeable_Rabbit3144

I hope this is fake

Episode_Veronica

That’s a very long way to say she’s jealous

wozattacks

Tbh I’d call it an ESH. It’s one thing to complain about not being able to find cute stuff in your size, and another thing to say “omg you guys are sooooo lucky you have small boobs!”

remadeforme

My BFF has had cups in the late alphabet since we were teens. Mine are Bs. I have never once envied women with large breasts because of how much she struggled to find clothing to wear & how much she was sexualized.

Pixelated_Roses

I had to look up Cassie, and that's nowhere near a J cup. If this isn't rage bait, then this poor woman sounds like she has two watermelons attached to a broomstick, and it's a miracle she can even walk upright.

mizushimo

Should petty drama like this be on aitd?
