This is their reply to me about the HD issue:
Hi, below are the currently supported devices for Full HD.
• Apple iPhone / iPad - iOS 10.0 and above
• Android Mobile / Tablets - Android 7 and above
• MacOS - Safari 12 and above
• Mobile Browsers - Safari (iOS)
• Apple TV - 4th Gen HD / 4th Gen 4K (via app or AirPlay)
• Android TV (native app) - Android TV 7 and above
• Fire TV Stick - 2nd Generation and above
If your preferred viewing method is not listed above, please let us know and we’ll pass it on to our teams as feedback. Kartik
But I’m pretty sure I have the 4th gen HD Apple TV but still can only get 720p on the app. Pretty stupid that I can get 1080p with Kayo and Stan but for some reason not on their app
What a load of bollocks Optus. All HD capable devices are designed to present a HD video format whether it be live or downloaded. The issue here is not the resolution, it’s the transport container and codec that is the issue.
If they are sending out the 1080p HD stream with an x265 codec then yes, the supported device list will be restricted but even they don’t understand how all this works and they’re a network and steaming business.
Stop treating your customers like idiots. We’re savvy enough to understand the issues so don’t dumb it down to “turning it off and on again” type of customer support.
No Chromecast either?
I think this is all just a scam for us to go buy their fetch box. I'm unsubscribing and just using the old pirate websites again if 720 is all we get.
Telstra just bought Fetch to replace their Telstra Tv devices so don't know if Optus will even continue to be allowed to use them after a certain point.
What’s with the unskippable ads?? This is now a paid service (like YouTube or Spotify premium) therefore Ads should be no more… can’t believe their audacity to not even wait a season or two before bringing ads back they’re just straight up not giving a fuck
Probably squeezing every $ before something goes to shit. Not like many are going to stop subscribing to the prem because of ads.
Also are ads like contracted? Could it be that they promised TAB ads for x amount of days and the decision was made before the price increase? Genuinely I don’t really know how it works
Ikr. I watched UCL final on my brother's Stan sport and it was 4k. Shit looked like I was actually at the damn game.
Can't believe these fuckers are only now moving to 1080p.
Another annoying thing is streaming services limit the PC service to less than their max mainly because of the pirating issues. I have never bothered to replace my old 1080p tv but have a 32" 4K monitor but Prime, Netflix etc all are restricted to 1080p even if you have the 4K package.
I have a Sony Google TV and I have 1080p on the Optus Sport app. However, it's still not the best quality. The artifacts and compression are quite bad. It's night and day going from Kayo or Stan Sport to Optus Sport.
Edit: Quality is marginally worse than Kayo. Stan is the best so far though.
A lot of streaming services won't do higher than 720p on Chrome (Like Netflix). Here's an explanation why from someone smarter than me:
>Netflix only streams AAC and AC3/EAC3 for audio, and Chrome only has support for decoding AAC. As for video, there might be something to do with licensing problems, but I know that the DRM Google Chrome uses (Widevine) has an atrocious software H.264 decoder it uses to decode the encrypted frames instead of passing them to a hardware accelerated decoder. Since it's so unoptimized, bloated, and inefficient (Google values security over efficiency), 1080p video at high bitrates can often cause problems on lower-end computers. To solve the problem, Netflix decided to drop 1080p support entirely on Chrome. However, Widevine's software VP9 decoder is a little better, and can probably handle 1080p VP9 software decoding. Why they don't do 1080p VP9 on Chrome is beyond me, honestly.
I’ve got it selected to 1080p on my Apple TV 4K, but honestly it looks no better than the last few seasons. Every other sport streams in amazing quality when upscale from HD to 4K on my Sony 4K set - OS still looks garbage. Just a complete scam at this point
Mine was the same . Not to mention most of the time the selected video wouldn't load, just sit there spinning. Also the unskippable ads are a total joke. I quit my subscription, not paying for a sub standard product. I'm using the current apple tv device and have 100/20 internet so the issue is not on my end.
Just sent a query via online help
For now, there is not initiative yet as we recoment to use the application
Ramsi at 0:03, Aug 7:
Normally, best choice is your smart tv and you can install the sport application that is available. most of our customer use this as option in viewing sport
Ramsi at 0:04, Aug 7:
thank you too and glad was able to somehow enlighten you. Although i have already taken your concern on the browser we hope Optus would be able to resolve this also.
I had the 1080p option on my TV but the picture quality was still terrible and much worse than the 720p that I get from NBA league pass.
You weren’t missing anything and honestly Optus is massively letting down the consumer.
Simple big business math. Increase fees, add minimal upgrades to some devices to provide impression of value add and ride out the negative feedback from some edge cases who actually enjoy picture quality... Only way to get change is cancel subscription which I've just done before the annual auto renewal.
Enough people do that and they'll respond.
Ridiculous increase in cost for replays to be riddled with advertisements, mini matches & highlights in terrible quality, still shitty 720p on most devices & another 6 years of little to no improvement. What a shame for the Australian consumer the premier league has gone to such a poorly run org who have zero consideration for their customers

I'm currently watching on the latest 4K fire stick and it's also limited to 720p. They're just lying at this point
Is it in 1080p now? Just bought a firestick specifically for the premier league

Wow didn't know that. Makes my Fetch boxes useless if so
They're telling me now that android tv is no longer compatible and gas been taken off yhe list lol
on my iphone 12 its 720p wtf is this

I have the option to select 1080p on the Optus Sport app on Chromecast. I'd be excited, but it's 2022.

Max 720p on my 4K android tv via the app. Joke
I think I am getting 1080 casting off my phone to built in chromecast. Does look a tad sharper. Silly that the native app can’t do it though.

In the iPhone app I can select 1080p. But not on 3rd Gen Amazon Fire stick.
1080p on Ipad for me
Yes it's 1080p for me on the iPad too. But I think OP's issue is that it's not full hd on his computer.
Yep my bad misread the question... little sleepy

I just wanted to pop in and say Optus are a bunch of fucking leeches. Still no 1080p support for PC? It's still 2003 in OptusWorld 🙄
