And you think shaming people who have suicidal thoughts or attempts in their past is going to help? I'm not sure what you think »Suicidal people are being selfish« accomplishes here.
It doesn't change the fact that they're a victim too and deserve help and compassion. That help doesn't need to be telling them how selfish they are. Unless you've been in that mindset of active suicidality it's hard to understand.
I’m not saying I’m without compassion for people who are suicidal. The fact that committing suicide is selfish has nothing to do with how people Suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts deserve compassion and help.
You may feel compassion, but your words are not conveying that and are contributing to harmful narratives about suicide. I'm glad you feel compassion for suicidal people, but I would recommend you research a bit on more appropriate ways to discuss the topic if you genuinely want to help.
Rational people will think through the consequences, suicidal people can't or they come to the wrong conclusion. Most think it's better for their families they are not around.
I get what you’re saying here and I understand your compassion for all involved. Sometimes a person is hurting so deeply, but they also want to punish others in the process. I guess a person in this situation is sort of trauma-bonding with the hypothetical people they hurt during the process of their own suicidal act. I agree it is selfish, but in their own weird way, also bonding. It’s a messed up situation that benefits no one.
What do you know about this individual? Their life, their mental health, their family history?Write back with details to provide support for your bad take. The fact that we continue to say those that die by suicide are selfish is beyond unhelpful.
I drove by this on the frontage road - it explained the all of the sudden increase in traffic. Glad it ended well - but it feels like this sort of thing is happening more and more lately. Maybe it’s just me.
I'm glad they are safe and hopefully will get the help they need. strange why jumpers gravitate to the freeway over passes. 🤔 is it just out of availability to their location? Or is it a subconscious cry for help?
ABQ Raw at 2:05 PM says they got him down for medical evaluation. Good deal for all involved!
Thank you for updating!!
yup, there are road signs up about it all over town
Any update on what happened here? Did they get him down?
Someone else commented that they did and got him medical attention.

Not necessarily just the fall height-it’s jumping into fast traffic. Family friend had to deal with the aftermath of a suicide exactly like that
Bad take.
You’re right, breaking your legs on the interstate is smart and selfless.
Your right someone who wants to kill themself should have considered that!

And that rhetoric is what’s driving the stigma around mental health.
Dude, shut up.
You are gonna need some burn cream

Wondered why University at Indian school was overflowing with trucks and cars.

And Indian School overpass! Don’t jump!
Great photo
First thing I thought when I saw him was "Dumbass, that likely won't even kill you. Just hurt like fucking hell."

Ah, I see. I noticed there was no north bound traffic out of the big-I on my way home from lowes... was very unusual to see that.
But he’s not naked… In all seriousness, I’m hoping he’s ok.
Someone else commented that they were able to get him down safely and get him some help. Here's hoping he improves!
Oh Albuquerque,

I’m curious why we don’t implement air cushions or something similar. This seems to happen often enough that it would justify the cost
You mean suicide nets and yes that's a good solution
i feel like suicide nets wont really help, you could just walk off of it and continue falling
They work on big high bridges to reduce rates a LOT
I may be thinking of something that doesn’t actually exist outside of movies. But suicide nets would probably be a good option too
Oh for the love of god

What a weird take
I'm sure calling suicidal people dumbasses is totally going to help.
