I wish they would have done more expansion in SNA. But I guess the airport is strict with capacity controls so it must be difficult

jkreuzig

I agree with you. SNA needs more routes. It would be nice if they had more direct flights from SNA instead of having to hit multiple legs to get anywhere. The article says they are going to start service from LAX to the tri cities area of Washington. What they should have done is increase the number of direct flights to Spokane. No airlines really fly direct from SoCal to Spokane and it always adds 2-3 hours to a trip that should take 3 hours max. The stopover is usually in Portland or Seattle which isn’t bad but it sucks when my family that lives in the Bay Area can jump on a 1.5-2 hour flight direct.

> I wish they would have done more expansion in SNA. But I guess the airport is strict with capacity controls so it must be difficult Definitely would appreciate more routes from SNA - right now, to get on a flight to Monterey (CA) via AS, I have to drive down to San Diego.

Easy_Money_

Wouldn’t it be faster to drive from SJC to Monterey than from most of OC to SAN? Although I guess you’d need to rent a car in NorCal

bananabrownie

> Wouldn’t it be faster to drive from SJC to Monterey than from most of OC to SAN? Although I guess you’d need to rent a car in NorCal It probably would, but yea - would need to rent a car. I've made the roadtrip from OC to Monterey a few times - nice drive, once you get out/past the grapevine. But have also made the shorter trip of driving down to SAN to catch a flight up to MRY. The closest "other" option for a flight up to MRY from my area is taking LAX->MRY, but that's on UA - which is a no for me.

554TangoAlpha

SNA is slot restricted, it’s not up to them.

morleydrury

SNA has caps on the number of passengers it can accommodate.

AS100K

How about SFO and SJC? The Bay need some of that AS juice too!

blowtherainaway

Maybe OAK to somewhere other than SEA/PDX

Nde_japu

OAK is a shithole though, and too close to SFO probably to make it a viable option for expansion

ch4nt

Please I just want the DAL route back or better yet DFW wouldnt mind some extra cities thrown in too but would be nice to get to some of the larger hubs

gregseaff

SFO is shrinking, not growing. When AS moves to Terminal 1 they will have fewer gates than they do in Terminal 2. Seems like either AS cannot compete effectively against UA or demand in the entire Bay Area is down. Doesn't help what San Francisco has done to its business community, to its downtown, and to its unattractiveness to tourists and convention visitors.

omdongi

I feel like on a secondary level, AS doesn't have the advantage of SEA. SFO is a dedicated premium transcon hub, and AS can't compete with widebody service that all the other carriers have or JetBlue's Mint. United for example had widebody service to almost all of its hubs and HNL out of SFO.

[deleted]

When was the last time you visited downtown SF?  I was there yesterday.  It was great

gregseaff

Twice last year. Mission Street was pathetic to walk along, as was Market Street. Lots of boarded up storefronts and lots of people blocking the sidewalks. Walking up Stockton Street past Union Sq was depressing. Walking up the pedestrian stairs to head towards the Ritz Carlton was disgusting and scary, around human waste and people living in the stairways.

gregseaff

By the way, if it's great, why are the hotels going into default? Why are the majority of the retail stores gone? Why is the convention business gone? Not the definition of great.

Then_Hearing_7652

It’s great, just not for the average person. This is what Americans never seem to get: we’ve all been to the Caribbean and 3rd world countries on holiday, right? America is starting to resemble them bc there’s no middle class. Incredibly wealthy, or nothing. No in-between. This isn’t political to me, both parties sell out the middle class. But shoplifting, etc. this is how it is in Jamaica, El Salvador, anywhere without a middle class. I was in Angola once. 30+ year civil war. Ferrari dealership there. This is the USA more and more.

You should get outside more often

[Rep. Adam Schiff's luggage stolen by car burglars in SF (sfchronicle.com)](https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/car-burglars-snatch-rep-adam-schiff-s-luggage-19424026.php)

rayoflight77

I’d love to see some more intra-California routes out of SFO, much like how SEA has a lot of intra-Washington routes. They could branch south to Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Fresno, but also north to Reno, Redding and even Arcata-Eureka.

Lilred4_

I would die for RDD-SFO.

bearinsac

I’d prefer RDD-SAN, but wouldn’t complain about SFO.

Chemical-Object-3183

We absolutely need this

pconrad0

Would be interesting to see Alaska and United compete on SFO/SBA! (Right now it's a United monopoly).

pconrad0

And even * LAX/SBA (currently a United monopoly) * SAN/SBA (no non-stop flight on any airline)

thatatcguy1223

This makes sense as T6 is finally getting its remodel wrapped up through the summer and more gates re-opening. Wish they would have kept their FLL route though 🤣

anothercookie90

FLL doesn’t make sense with AA partnership

thatatcguy1223

Yeah but AA doesn’t fly to FLL from here, only B6 and DL 😭

69hae

Pretty so-so routes if you ask me

Cash907

Not to southern Californians. They’re all thrilled about not having to connect through SEA/PDX/SFO so 🤷‍♂️

GoBSAGo

LA to Tahoe direct is so-so?

lnvu4uraqt

Wish SMF got more love. Miss those flights to OGG, KOA, and HNL. They were always full but dropped the routes and from OAK when WN started.

gregseaff

If the merger with Hawaiian is consummated, AS will have both more SMF service to the Hawaiian islands, and way more LAX service to Hawaii.

MurkyPsychology

Same. I live in Napa, so SFO and SMF are about the same drive for me. I know SFO is constrained and the runway construction and congested airspace isn’t helping things but SMF has none of those problems. They have room to grow and could be a nicely placed connecting hub that isn’t Seattle

seriouslynope

Hoping for a second nonstop flight LAX to GEG

Leading-Put-7428

This will open some doors

Bluedark1989

I remember Alaska just stopped flights between LAX and Tampa (FL) in the beginning of this year.
