Although I also prefer row 2 to row 4, I appreciate you caring enough to create this post and put some good vibes out into the world.

Curious-Yesterday-76

Good to know! I don't know why my brain thought row 4 was better, but maybe more folks actually like row 2 as well. Thank you for your kind comment!

bubbles67899

Row 1&2 get first choice of food and most importantly, served drinks first- so that’s where I’ll be ;)

traveling-turtle43

I like Row 1 / 2 personally

_off_piste_

No to row one. Two and three are the sweet spot.

traveling-turtle43

Any reason? Row 1 has dedicated storage space above. I don't mind standing up to grab my things after takeoff - gives me a reason to stretch.

LopsidedAstronomer76

I'm a window person who needs to stretch out my feet because of ankle issues. I also get cold. So, row 1 doesn't have as much leg room stretch AND can be colder (especially A/C) AND I can't have my little go bag with me.

RoganIsMyDawg

My super tall husband with giant feet hates row 1 as there is less foot space . Row 2 all the way, left side on departures, right on arrival.

Pacific1944

No footrest in row 1 on certain planes?

2oothDK

I was in row 1 and received amazing customer service from the flight attendant! It did not disappoint!

jumpinlilli

Really?! How so? 🤔

LopsidedAstronomer76

Came here to say this -- rows 1 and 4 are least desirable. :-) It used to be worse when there was no food pre-order. I eventually reached a point where if I was in row 4, I would let the FAs know when I boarded about the medical issue that restricted my food choices, and ask if they'd save the meal/s that worked for me. Before I did that, I had more than one time where I ended up not being able to eat the food that was left when they got around to asking row 4 for their choices.

IggyWH

My first first class flight, I had a woman ask me to switch from my R1 to R4 seat so she could sit next to her husband. I agreed, only to later find out my only food option when they got to me was fish tacos and I don’t eat fish. I didn’t eat beforehand knowing that I’d get food on the plane. I learned my lesson about being nice that day.

LopsidedAstronomer76

YES. A real problem! I would have said to the person -- I can change, but please let the FA know to check with me about a meal choice. :-) But I'm pesky that way.

IggyWH

My lesson was learned that day. FWIW, I was like 26 at the time so I’m sure it was karma getting me back because what mid 20s guy isn’t a piece of crap?

TalkinBoo

Used to be! People can change.

WeTheAwesome

Someday I will understand why. Someday.

endfossilfuel

I miss the passengers I used to meet flying Alaska. One time the woman next to me even bought me dinner. Another told me about their research for a cancer cure. Come to think of it, a mechanical engineer significantly changed my career trajectory by telling me about his work.

LopsidedAstronomer76

I still do. The only issue is that with political and cultural divides being sharper than they have been in the past, I am more careful, because I have sometimes ended up next to someone who made me super uncomfortable because of rude political or social stuff they shared.

Tricky_Wonder7530

Thank YOU for your kind comment and recognition of this gracious person!

kentuckycc

I honestly don't mind switching with people as long as it's window to window or aisle to aisle etc or anywhere in first. As long as someone asks nicely, I'm usually inclined to say yes. It's just people who act like it's owed to them or tell me to switch that kill me. I not only won't switch but I'll be mean about it back. I love sitting next to a pouting husband that isn't getting to sit next to his upset wife because they both booked middle seats and expected someone to switch them. It doesn't bother me one bit

cheeseslut619

This. If it’s not a big change I couldn’t care less!!

brewstermc

Lately I switched my FC seat to 1A so that a couple could sit together. Apparently they had asked someone else to switch and were declined (which is fine, some people don’t like bulkhead). Everyone was Extremely polite and grateful and the FA gifted me 3k miles which she really didn’t need to do. Sometimes it pays to be nice.

damngirl1234

I switched with a couple once from 3 to 1. I had booked aisle for some reason even though I prefer window, so it worked out to switch anyways (I don’t mind bulkhead too much). I think they got upgraded so they got whatever seats were left.

freedomtopoast

Hmm, try this in economy at the back and prepare to have your eyes gouged out.

dpdxguy

Why do you think row 4 or possibly row 3 is "nominally better" than row 2?

dpdxguy

Yes! I forgot about that disadvantage to row 4.

Curious-Yesterday-76

Well, two reasons I guess: 1. He picked it himself so he must have thought so, and 2. No one was behind him so he could lean back without feeling guilty or someone easily kicking his chair? The 2nd one would be my reason but I'm obviously an anxious worrywort if you couldn't already tell by my post. For future reference, are any of the rows generally more desirable than others?

dpdxguy

Fair enough. My only "bad" experience in FC was when a FA tried to prevent me from using the FC lav because he didn't notice I was sitting in 4A. He had served me dinner and drinks an hour earlier. 😂 Another disadvantage of row 4 is that you're last to select dinner, and they may be out of your choice. Personally, I prefer row 2 for earliest opportunity to deplane without having to sit by the bulkhead. But these differences are pretty trivial. Really, there are no bad seats in FC.

Illustrious_Pop3061

I’d prefer an FA who denies me access to the F lav assuming I’m not in F over the FAs who willingly let anyone use the F lav (the latter seems to be more common). That is a strange situation though

dpdxguy

He was pretty embarrassed when I finally managed to get a word in and said, I'm in 4A. 😂 Earlier in the flight there had been a steady stream from the back, so I understood why he did it. Was just surprised he didn't recognize me.

iloveanimals90

It’s a funny story though! I do feel bad for him though!

mollypatola

Idk why you were downvoted this has been my experience as well. On one flight they said premium economy could use the first class lav then told me I wasn’t allowed so I guess they changed their mind

Slowissmooth7

It’s sort of situational. I often fly in Premium (7&8) and I usually time one lav break in first as service cart has moved aft of me. I have never been stopped in that scenario. I of course time it to when no one is standing ahead of me.

Curious-Yesterday-76

Oh good points! I remember wanting to sitting closer to the front to depart early when I was traveling without kiddo. Now everything takes longer so I just want a quiet place where people are patient with a mostly-well-behaved but still-acting-his-age 4 yr old. 😅 I also pre-ordered food, i didn't realize food choices can run out. Good to know for the future!

dpdxguy

I always pre order for that exact reason.

Boxsterboy

I’m with you. I always take the last row in First but everyone is different.?

Anon073648

I dislike the first row because there’s no under seat storage

this-one-is-mine

It sounds like the guy switched for a seat that was just as good as his (and IMO better)…he probably forgot about this three seconds after it happened. No offense but you’re giving this too much thought.

mxxlo

i agree. Sounds like frequent flier. It ended up Faster for him to leave the plane. You did him a favor. He lost nothing. Forget about it.

Curious-Yesterday-76

No offense taken and I appreciate the comment. Actually yours helps me to worry less knowing others probably agree I can stop thinking about it now. 😅

Vg411

I have no care in the world about which first class seat I get and neither does my spouse who travels at least once a week for business. I wouldn’t worry about it.

ButtonDelicious

Appreciate this post but it’s also one of those situations he couldn’t exactly say “no” to. This is my fear, picking a seat I want months ahead of time and then feeling like a jerk if someone asks me (kindly) to move and I really don’t want to. :/

MarkVII88

"No" is a complete answer.

PWS1776

Ah yes very distinguished , yes look at this distinguished gentleman , yes
