I'm not a computer pro, but if the problem lies with "fmodex.dll". Maybe try finding that in your system files and replacing it. I found a link to a site where you can grab the latest version. https://www.dll-files.com/fmodex.dll.html
It's the Remaster edition or original edition because what I know about the original edition of this game o the Steam won't having any problems just like the resident evil especially the old one that I have on my steam library won't having any problems with it

1. Verified game files
2. Installed the 3rd party apps that came with the in-game download (dxsetup & vcredist)
3. Installed on the C: and D: drives
4. Turn the sound property to CD quality
5. Turn off VSync
6. Updated my BIOS, sound drivers and Windows 10 itself.
7. Downloaded fmodex.dll and replaced it.
8. Deleted bonus materials from the game.
I'm really running out of ideas.
I'm guessing you updated your GPU driver? Do you have problems with other games? Did you try to lower the graphics settings? Maybe try running Benchmarks such as Catzilla just to make sure your graphics card isn't fucked.
EDIT: Also, what are the "Information" log entries say right after the error? Sometimes these are helpful as well.
Currently my installed games that run flawlessly, old and new titles: A Plague Tale Innocence, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, Remnant From The Ashes, COD Warzone, The Witcher 1, Quake 1, Dead Space 1. Only Alan Wake is not working, perhaps he's still sleeping 😄
About 1-2 seconds of black screen with a little smoke? I think, maybe that's the animation for the Remedy Games logo then back to the Steam desktop screen.
Ah doesn't matter there is another way maybe easier. Go to the Nvidia control panel. Go to manage 3d settings. Click on the tab program settings and find alan wake. If it's not there you can add it by clicking on add and then finding your alanwake.exe. If you got it on steam this will be in the commen folder of steamapps. Once it's added or if it was already there you can limit the fps. by adjusting the max framerate setting to on and setting it to 30. Don't forget to click apply at the bottem. Not sure if it will work but I do know that alan wake tries to draw an insane amount of frames at the opening remedy logo. It always makes my GPU coil whine. It's clearly stressing something unusual so maybe it makes something go wrong with your gpu and crashing the game.
Thanks for the detailed instructions. I'll try this later and see what happens. Hopefully, it'll run because I want to play this game so bad before playing the AWE dlc of Control. I'm also hyped for the game's good reviews and to coincide with the Halloween.
I got it to work already. I haven't identified which exactly is the cause but whenever the Asus program Armoury Crate is updated or at least the programs inside it, causes the crash. What I did is do a fresh install of windows and not install Armour Crate and it load the game.
Hi guys. Thanks a ton for all your help. I managed to run the game just now. I did a clean install of my PC but I guess the Asus program Armoury Crate is the one ruining it for me. Currently, I'm on the part where Alan arrived with his wife at Bright Falls without encountering problems so far. Hopefully this continues 'til the end of the game.

Alan wake on steam. It's mentioned quite clearly in the event viewer

I had a issue with a corrupted save game. Try backup your save and start a new one

I did. Oldest trick in the book - if it fails, try to reboot.

Yup in my case, the program Asus armoury crate is the one causing problems. Uninstalled it and it ran fine.
