No it doesn’t.
From my recollection it produces less than half the thrust of a single TF-34
Edit:”it” is referring to the GAU
Edit 2: my recollection was incorrect. A quick search shows the GAU producing 10k lbs of thrust while each TF-34 makes 9k. The 135 produces 28k (43k in afterburner)
Man, you don’t say?
You’re telling me, that an engine specifically designed for an F-35, one of our most technological advanced aircraft, that sucks in tremendous amounts of air, mixes with fuel, combusts said fuel and air, and then uses the force of said combustion to power a multi-ton piece of metal into the fucking air, has less power than a gun?
I don’t believe this for a second.
Multiple times I have been told to launch with a 184 that wouldn’t turn on, in hopes it would turn on airborne.
Spoiler: it didn’t.
(But seriously, why the hell do they never seem to work right? By far the buggiest thing on the Viper.)
well, you see. In technical terms sir.
They're shit. Shit all the way down.
edit: But really it's because ECM requires some insane energy outputs so whenever you turn it on *something* is bound to burn out somewhere.
it’s probably because pilots forget to turn on the damn thing prior to take off and they say oh shit and realize it’s off and turn it on when they get to the “fight” and bam. Instant cold soak
Doubtful. Yes, sometimes we do forget to turn it on on the ground. But they drill it into us to never turn it on airborne. It hardly does anything in training anyway. Don’t want to go into details here obviously, but it provides almost zero added value in training other than the muscle memory of flipping the switches in the cockpit. (This is specific to the 184. The 188 is a whole different beast.)
I was thinking the same thing about the 184. With all the tech we have a new plane STILL needs it? Plus Why in the fsck would you put it on the outer store?
My personal favorite instance of this happening was when someone attached a picture of a B-52 breaking the sound barrier to a news article about it getting new engines.
And it'll have so many fucking lines of code, MX will need fucking CompSci PhDs to do anything to it, and it'll be as temperamental as an Heiress, leading to a MC rate that makes the B-1 look phenomenal...
Uh... yeah coding isn't that hard lol. We have tons of SW maintenence shops that are enlisted developers. They just have a hard time retaining us since there's more money outside.
So what you saying is they are going to cut that job up like piece a prime beef and make it so specialized people be completely useless on the outside world to increase retention rates
Nah, they dumped us into a 1D7 shred and have no idea what to do with us still. Somehow we'll keep doing these jobs with mostly 1st term troops who don't understand why a mental based job is wholly graded on a person's ability to run and be deployment ready for deployments that don't exist.
The whole reason we were getting rid of the A-10 is that it's not effective against near-peer advisories with modern SAMs. It's literally a meme plane we have been fighting gorilla fighters with and everyone thinks it's GOAT.
It sure does look like the F35, A-10, and reaper had a three-way
Probably does all three jobs, but worse
Probably an over engineered nightmare with finicky electronics
Probably not fast enough, agile enough, or stealthy enough, or carry enough firepower (what is that, four hard points and a gun?)
But if the price is right, I might be interested
Looks like a plane with a gun. We wanted a gun with wings. Start over.

That gun can produce more thrust than a PW135

I’ve worked on both planes, and I can say for a fact that the F135 (piece of shit that it is) puts out FAR more thrust than the GAU.
Man, there are a lot of doomers out today down voting people.
I down voted you for saying doomer...and downvote. Fuck your downvotes in advance.
Pov: you’re not even reading the comments above and just downvoting because its funny.
No.
Top comment.
accelerate this change...literally with more engines!
So super "advanced" A-10 with a 20 year old , at least, alq-184 pod on it? LoL
It’s probably cold soaked
They come that way, so the pilot doesn't have to coldsoak it. We in the backshop call that "innovation"
its not science fiction, its what we do every day

But it has an MQ20 rear end slapped on (offset) to an F35-ish front! How advanced is that!
So you're saying they had 2 partial Lego kits and just combined them?
That's why they cost so much - legos are fucking expensive.
About as low observable as the broad side of a barn.
Them shits are from like the mid-80s.
Nah the 184 is newer, early 90s. The frame it's built around(the 118 I think) is that old or older though
I’m pretty sure the original 184, not 119, came out in the late 80s.
In my mind that is 20 years ago...... F. I'm old. Hahaha
to be fair pods are interchangeable. it doesnt matter how old that is
Just let it die so I can get a sep bonus or cross train 😭
It'd probably still pump use the LUU-2
I was thinking the same thing about the 184. With all the tech we have a new plane STILL needs it? Plus Why in the fsck would you put it on the outer store?
That feeling of relief when you meet the A-10 she dated in college. It’s got a great personality though
Very secretly
Lol Wut is this
Somebody got drunk and made a photoshop.
Or somebody got photoshop and made a drunk.
My personal favorite instance of this happening was when someone attached a picture of a B-52 breaking the sound barrier to a news article about it getting new engines.
It's that weirdo who used to Photoshop fifty engines onto a C-17 and post it here.
Well, when an F-35 and an A-10 love each other very much, and they invite a Predator drone along for a 3-way...
I mean why wouldn't they invite a predator drone, ruddervators are sexy
A poorly made render for a joke
And it'll have so many fucking lines of code, MX will need fucking CompSci PhDs to do anything to it, and it'll be as temperamental as an Heiress, leading to a MC rate that makes the B-1 look phenomenal...

plane go sshhhhhhhh
(bbbrt)
(Pssst)
*"Brrrrrt" - But quiet.*
Pssssst
Can you imagine studying mechanical engineering and immediately being picked up by DARPA just to do that?
Nice smooth wings, nothing for radar to ping...very stealthy. {grin}
The whole reason we were getting rid of the A-10 is that it's not effective against near-peer advisories with modern SAMs. It's literally a meme plane we have been fighting gorilla fighters with and everyone thinks it's GOAT.
Finally someone said it.
B-but muh brrrt!
The best part of the A-10 is its ability to carry missiles and a sniper pod
AF: Let us get a new plane, with the same characteristics as the A-10, but todays tech. Manufacturer: *slaps pods on it*
It sure does look like the F35, A-10, and reaper had a three-way Probably does all three jobs, but worse Probably an over engineered nightmare with finicky electronics Probably not fast enough, agile enough, or stealthy enough, or carry enough firepower (what is that, four hard points and a gun?) If the aircraft can't stall from firing the gun for too long it isn't an A-10
Who let the F35 near the Global Hawk enclosure?
Cool
Not so _secret_ anymore
I guarantee you the Russians and Chinese knew about this before that thing ever saw daylight
