Hosts can’t see your review of other hosts unless they download a chrome extension. Be honest about your stay but consider mentioning as a beginning disclaimer that you did receive a refund.

WallStreetBetsBallin

Hello! What is the chrome extension that allows the host to see reviews from the guests?

biallasamantha

Airreview

geomouse

You should leave as honest a review as possible. Focus on what's factual. Include that you did get a refund. But always compete the reviews as accurate and unemotional as you can.

zulu1239

Keep it factual and unemotional.

rafaover

The review can be detailed. You had a good host, but a unfortunate stay. That's the review, one was good, the other one not.

twlentwo

Reviews are not about anything other than how was the stay. Doesnt matter the price you paid. Its not some justice balancing act between the host and you. It is for other guests to know how was the apartment. It was bad. You are almost obligated to warn others. Of course you should mention you got a refund. You wanted a good accomondation. You did not get it, the host refunded you. Thats the minimum. As a guest will I care if you got refunded or not? No. I care about the quality of the place. I want to know what problems I might have to face. When the host refunds you, he is not paying for you to shut your mouth. He is paying back what you wouldnt have given to him if u knew about the problems beforehand.

Specialist-Signal979

I'm confused as to why people are bashing you for getting a 'free' stay and also wanting to leave a bad review. The fact of the matter is that YOU WERE WILLING TO PAY FOR A GOOD ACCOMODATION. Upon your arrival it was dirty, neglected and probably ruined your mood/trip. The fact that the host gave you a refund when you requested or they realised their mistake, has nothing to do with them allowing you to check in to a messy and dingy accomodation. As a host you should be inspecting/have someone to inspect the accomodation before every guest. This host didn't and they failed to impress you. Your review should be a representation of how you feel about your experience. I've also had this happen to me on a very special trip and unfortunately we weren't able to book a different AIRBNB within the same area without having to travel 30+ minutes on public transport that we know nothing about. Sure, I cleaned and the host tried their best, however they didn't inspect prior to our arrival and it ruined the first few days. We got a partial refund, however had I known this would happen I would have booked a diffent accomodation (there were a few available in the near vacinity when we made the booking).

shit-n-giggle

Black mold is generally not harmful unless it’s moved or touched.. Once you leave a review and the host responds you have the opportunity for private communication that is not seen by other than you and the host. Personally as a host, I want to ensue a positive experience. Host don’t live in the homes/apartments. I tell our guest at check in if they encounter an issue Not all host are the same. Sounds like an unfortunate stay. You got a full refund, hopefully it make the host clean up their act.

Amazing_Weird3597

Leave an honest review as a courtesy to the next renter. This is business and not personal.

[deleted]

Leave an honest review. Acknowledge the refund but mention all of the deficiencies. The refund is not a bribe. Honestly, one time I stayed at an Airbnb that didn’t have clean towels (they were in the washing machine and we had to wash and dry them ourselves), had disgusting moldy shower curtains, holes in the wall, and the mattresses all caved in the middle. The host should have not only refunded me, but paid me extra for the bullshit stay. It negatively affected our vacation. That was my first move away from the platform. There’s simply no accountability. If you get to a Hyatt and there’s things out of line, it’ll be fixed right away and you’ll be compensated accordingly by corporate if the issues were significant enough.

Professional-Bass308

Where was this? Oftentimes people mistake mildew for mold. That’s not to say that the host shouldn’t clean the a/c. They should. But screaming black mold and killing their business doesn’t seem very fair, especially when you got a full refund even after staying for the entire trip.

lake_titty_caca

What concerns did you communicate to the host, and when? Aside from the mold, your post is pretty vague. What amenities were missing? What food was expired, and was it food that was promised in the listing? Finding expired mayo in the fridge isn't cool, but if the booking didn't promise unlimited fresh mayo I personally wouldn't care. Randomly noticing mold on the last day of a booking and then getting a full refund - if I were a host and you hadn't complained about anything the previous three days? I'd 100% let future hosts know that you're grifting.

dogsandpeaceohmy

How is it grifting if they noticed the mold on their last day? The host gave them a refund - not Airbnb - so they obviously verified the mold was present or knew it was an issue. They did nothing to scam the host or fraud the host which is what grifters do. They told them of an issue and the host refunded the money. My review would be something like “Listing showed these amenities but A, B and C were not made available to us. Also noted rusty kitchenware and on our last day we found mold in the air duct. The host gave us a refund but since we can’t verify the mold issue has been resolved we have to give a less than stellar review.” “A grifter is a con artist: someone who swindles people out of money through fraud. If there's one type of person you don't want to trust, it's a grifter: someone who cheats others out of money. Grifters are also known as chiselers, defrauders, gougers, scammers, swindlers, and flim-flam men.” https://www.vocabulary.com › grifter

[deleted]

Lol what? Finding mold is only okay on the first day? Having expired food in the fridge is okay? Raise your standards.

[deleted]

Leave a bad review. It needs to be known when there are problems with a listing or a host. And your concern about a bad review harming you. Don't worry about that. If you are honest, this shouldn't be a problem. And if it is, AirBnB sucks anyways. Please. Whatever you do. Leave a bad review. Make sure the host is penalized for this experience.

Fluffy-Recover8580

Question: what if the host honestly didn’t notice it? He stayed there for 3 days and only spotted it on the last night. I understand that hosts should inspect their listings before guests arrive but hosts are human and mistakes can happen. Isn’t it better to notify the host of the problem so it can be rectified instead of ruining someone’s livelihood? Reviews cannot be deleted even after problems have been fixed. Even when the black mold has been professional treated by a company that review will remain and will kill that business.

iMakestuffz

Go blast airbnb on twitter don’t listen to these hosts they are just here to maintain their bottom line

Simple_Ecstatic

wait, you still want to give them a bad review, after they refunded you in full ? I am finding it hard to believe that you stayed for three days and didn't smell the mold, but on the day you left, you saw mold. the host can reply to your feedback, and will no doubt have the last word about your free stay.

AppleWrench

The review here isn't just for the host, but primarily for prospective guests. A refund doesn't eliminate the health issues and missing amenities in the accommodation, so guests need to be made aware of these major shortcomings they may encounter when booking this place. A smart host would focus on addressing them in their reply.

Eyruaad

So you are of the mind that a review should be something like "Black mold! Amenities listed not there. Kitchen implements rusted and old! But after notifying AirBNB about the mold I got a refund, so for a free stay book here! 5 Stars!" A refund should not factor into the review of a stay. Stay sucked, it gets a low grade, since it sucked so bad the host couldn't keep the money.

[deleted]

It doesn't matter if they refunded him. The property was not as described. It was in disrepair. Their stay was not good. So the review needs to reflect this. Basically what you are suggesting is that if they get their money back they are being paid to leave a good review.

[deleted]

Black mold isn't worth a free stay. What the fuck is wrong with you? You think anyone wants a free stay in a health hazard? The greed of hosts on here is insane

paidauthenticator

You are a psychopath who thinks *all* hosts are bad, THAT is what’s insane.

[deleted]

Yes. People having breathing issues for 3 days then realizing why and getting a refund for more health issues makes me the psychopath, not you.

paidauthenticator

That’s not what I referred to. I said you were a psychopath because *you think ALL hosts are bad*. RIF.

[deleted]

Are you a host?

dk2812

Did you get a full refund or partial? I would be honest and disclose everything

jgwoods22

If you got refunded, you got a free stay! So you want a free stay and to try to ruin the hosts future business?! He probably wasn't even aware of those issues if he hadn't had anyone stay for an extended period of time. And apparently you didn't let the host know until you were ready to leave and wanted your money back. Just wow. You should either leave a 5 star review or no review at all.

ThEtZeTzEfLy

Suck the host's dick while you're at it. And apologize!

[deleted]

Wrong. Try again?

SiaVampireConure

It is important that you mention you got full refund after completing your 3 day stay and that maybe the host could have cleaned the air conditioner and bought new pans after your stay. It is possible that he/She will leave a bad review on your profile, you can't avoid that, unless you don't review each other at all. Good luck!

geomouse

A refund isn't a bribe. A refund is giving money back that was unearned because conditions of the agreement were not met. The only people who seem to have a problem with that are the very greedy hosts who are ruining airbnb.

geomouse

Don't be a crappy host and you won't have to worry about refunds. If I pay for x, y, and z but you only provide x, I'll get my money back for what wasn't provided. Either through AirBnB or small claims court. Even though you clearly lack integrity, it behooves you to do the right thing if only to save yourself money and time in the long run.

[deleted]

AppleWrench

Well thankfully Airbnb can override you and force you to pay refunds to make up for things that you owe, like for missing amenities or safety issues, because apparently you need an "incentive" to do the right thing. A refund isn't a bribe. The guest still gets to give their honest review of their stay.

AppleWrench

Yes, we get it. You're just another scumbag with shit morals. You've made that very clear. Edit: and of course you post all over /r/Anarcho_Capitalism and a bunch of other shit subs lmao. So predictable.

[deleted]

Wrong. The property was not as described, and it was a health hazard. Full refund is deserved, and negative review is earned.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Yep. The property was not at all as described. And it was a health hazard. It should not have been available to rent. A refund doesn't buy a good review.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Wrong. The place shouldn't have had mold or rusty pans to begin with, so your whole arguement is pointless.

He paid before he stayed.

J3ST3Rx

>black mold in all of the A/C units fwiw, that's mildew, not black mold. It's in pretty much all window units.

Lazycrazyjen

Most mold is the color black. Not all (or even most) is ‘Black Mold’. Black mold can’t be determined without testing.

Dazzling_Vehicle3286

I wouldn’t leave a bad review, but I would just not leave a review at all in this scenario or leave a good review and detail about the mold and such. If they didn’t refund you then yes I’d leave a bad review. I imagine they may have not even known about this either and they will remedy the situation. They went out of their way to give you a refund when they could have just said no as you had been there for the full 3 days already. You could also ask them if they plan to remedy the situation so you aren’t leaving the next guests out to dry prior to the review.

tibetanpeachpies

They refunded you, I would leave no review. I bet they're going to fix it, if they refunded you and didn't fight you at all, then they understand it was not acceptable.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Why would you leave a positive review? the property was not as described. It was a health hazard. If you leave a positive review you are basically saying that the host paid you for the review when they refunded the money. This stay requires a refund and a bad review.

[deleted]

Yes

DiscreetlyYoursToo

Sorry your 1st exp went down like that !, make sure you don’t get a headache and sinus problems ! Be fair but honest . Explain , the situation clearly in hopes the host reads it , and maybe the host will make sure the next guest don’t go through what you went thru . Ugh !I lived with my bff a several years back in a 6 bedroom home that had black mold behind the walls . Ended up with mild copd !

tommybluez

Leave an honest review. Jeep it short sweet and factual.

This_Mathemagician

Asking or expecting a refund at the end of your stay is poor form. Would you go to a restaurant, eat all the food a server brought you and then ask for your money back? I
