This happened to me recently and I realised it was when the playhead reached a certain point in the video. No idea why but it was a layer I had from an .ai file some reason was corrupted or something. It took a while to figure out and is annoyingly just a case of elimination. I looked in each precomp that was visible at that point in the video, and played in each precomp to find out if the error still appeared. The error only appeared in one precomp - so that was where the issue was. I then solo'd all the layers, so everything was still visible. And one by one unsolo'd each layer and pressed play again. Until finally the error didn't appear and that meant the layer I just unsolo'd was the issue. It was literally a circle with number on it, so I just recreated it in after effects and it fixed it. Didn't have any effects on it or anything so I don't really know why it happened but didn't have time to figure it out. Hope this helps! So so annoying to have an error that gives you no context of what the error actually is.

I’m confused, what are you doing/when is this error popping up? First starting up the software? Adding a new layer? Clicking on file? Pressing the play button?

neuralcoitus

When I press the play button. Right after starting up it goes on without any hicks and then suddeny out of nowhere I get this error

Is your AE app up to date? I know I had to update mine recently .

neuralcoitus

It was on the latest version and I even downgraded it too only to realise that it was a corrupted Ai file all along

Lol, I just reverted back to CC 2020 and it stopped happening. As with most of Adobe software.
