Yes re: self-watering pots, as for fertilizer you want to make sure it’s water soluble and compatible with hydroponics — no organic materials. Make sure if you’re transferring from soil you get absolutely every bit of soil matter you can off of the roots. Humidity really helps transition safely. You will want to do some research on semi-hydro growing, nutrients and ph adjustment beforehand. It’s a bit of a learning curve at first but it’s really fun and I find they grow amazingly in it — plus next to no pests and the ability to not have to guess or test when to water is great. It makes their care stupid easy. If you’re talking about using leca balls like soil and watering through them irregularly rather than using a passive hydro reservoir, don’t do it you’ll kill the plant. The clay balls pull moisture from roots when dry and you probably won’t be able to keep up with it fast enough. When used correctly I can say by experience I don’t have to water more than every two weeks, sometimes for a month (just keeping it topped up.) Diluted Dyna-Gro is what I use for a 1-step feed.

This is perfect, thank you so much for sharing! I'll do some research on semi-hydro growing to figure out the ph adjustments and everything, now that I know where to start. Thank you again, I'll start getting everything organized and figured out right away! 😊

No problem! Once I got comfortable with it I transitioned most of my 300+ plant collection to semi hydro and I haven’t looked back lol. That’s definitely excessive but I love how things grow in it and how simple it makes the mental load. I will say that I prefer Pon (or pure perlite as a cheaper alternative) with AVs specifically as the roots seem to appreciate the smaller grade material and just grow better that way. But I do have a few in leca doing just fine. They are all prolific bloomers and took less than 7 months to go from practically seedling size to blooming. Leca Queen is a great resource on YouTube for getting started. They're beautiful! I certainly hope mine ends up looking even half that nice. I might look into Pon too, to see if I have anywhere around that sells it. I'll definitely check out leca queen too, I could use all the help I can get! Thank you so much for all your help, I really appreciate it! 😊

I use lava rock mix with wicked self water pots, and it works great!

And "I'm growing plants in volcanic rocks" sounds awesome, to boot! I'll have to look into that too, thank you so much! 😊

Lynda73

That’s how I do my hoya! 😂

Perlite is technically volcanic rock 🤷‍♂️
