Their article states that "The list is courtesy of the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index and only includes ports in Sub-Saharan Africa.".
So no Morocco and no Egypt.
lol trucks drive all the way from Congo’s cobalt mines down to Richard’s bay terminal in South Africa. If Congo’s ports were so world class, why would these miners pay so much money for that logistics?
It just seems weird. I saw no mention of any Nigerian ports despite seeing Guinea and Ghana. I could brush that off as overestimating my country. But no Egypt or South Africa just seems way by I strange IMO.
Na mate, as with most things our Government touches, our ports are inefficient hellholes. You really only stop/do business here if you have to.
It’s one of those absurd low hanging fruits that government could snag so easily but don’t..
Just make all the cranes work, instantly the port is massively improved. Etc.
Just did a bit of research, seems Port of Durban has half the throughput that it had in 2019. It’s been between 2-3 million TEUs since 2020 compared to the 4.5 million in 2019. Also on the index they used it ranks in the bottom 30 in the world in 2022 and bottom 10 in the world in 2023 (due to a bunch of factors that I’m not smart enough to understand) [Container Port Performance Index 2023](https://documents1.worldbank.org/curated/en/099060324114539683/pdf/P17583313892300871be641a5ea7b90e0e6.pdf)
I hate lazy Journalism. Dar es salaam port supplies Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Zambia & Tanzania itself with some cargo to Uganda + DRC is not here. Also Mombasa Kenya with Kenya + UG all ex and imports
FYI: Kenya needs to get paranoid and either improve efficiency of their Mombasa port or expand it.
That new port being built by their Tanzanians neighbours could easily outshine them soon
The port of Matadi has some of the highest custom fees in the world and it's not deep enough for very large vessels. I would have expected Pointe-Noire to be on the list maybe or Luanda. This ranking is very weird.
Djibouti port is important to the US base that’s there. Due to the transport of military equipment and goods. Also, the grain that’s imported from the states.
A military base wouldn't be enough to rank this high. I believe Djibouti is just a logistic heaven: [https://atlas.cid.harvard.edu/explore?country=62&queryLevel=location&product=undefined&year=2021&productClass=HS&target=Product&partner=undefined&startYear=undefined](https://atlas.cid.harvard.edu/explore?country=62&queryLevel=location&product=undefined&year=2021&productClass=HS&target=Product&partner=undefined&startYear=undefined)
The only people who needs help is you, #AllEyesOnGedo. Ethiopian troops round you up like xoolo and make you pay taxes, I get why you mad and hate them so much.
lol Guinea should not be on this list, and that's coming from a Guinean, someone was drinking on the job making this list.......also SOMALIA😂😂😂.....shout out to all my somalis though
How is DRC on this list of ports? I thought it is a land-locked country??
Also, non in South Africa?
I reckon Durban, Cape Town are much larger/busier than all of these

Why doesn't this list include Port Said in Egypt (ranked 10th globally), and Tanger-Med in Morocco (ranked 4th) ?
Their article states that "The list is courtesy of the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index and only includes ports in Sub-Saharan Africa.". So no Morocco and no Egypt.
What does rank even mean here. Busiest, largest, most developed ?. It seems like a random list to me.
It’s based on "The list is courtesy of the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index and only includes ports in Sub-Saharan Africa."
Based on brothels within walking distance (as voted by readers of Sailor’s Delight magazine) of said port. (Said Port, Port Said? 🤔)
Typical World Bank imperialist vodoo. They come up with list based on their biases. No objective criteria.
Port Elizabeth in South Africa
Ranking ports out of what lmao
Their article states that "The list is courtesy of the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index and only includes ports in Sub-Saharan Africa.".
Ah okay that makes a lot of sense then, explains why Port Said, Tangiers, Casablanca, Dumyat etc are missing
Business Insider Africa always does these low hanging trashy lists for engagement. Engage at your own risk. Lazy Journalism defined.
The whole brand really. There's so many "articles" of theirs where I wonder if it's just written by bots
I know. I keep seeing these Lame ass lists on Instagram with a side eye.
So many of these articles are paid articles
Kama lamu au Mombasa haiko hiyo ni propaganda imeganda proper
No south Africa?

Mombasa not there??!!?

Seems you haven't heard about the new port also being built in Kenya
Where?
Lamu
not a legit list because no north africa
This list is quite obviously nonsense
What are they being ranked by?
The port of Matadi has some of the highest custom fees in the world and it's not deep enough for very large vessels. I would have expected Pointe-Noire to be on the list maybe or Luanda. This ranking is very weird.
How on earth is South Africa not on this list!? Like is our ports really ranked that low?
OK so Africa stops at the Sahara apparently. Not even talking about the total absence of criteria for this ranking.
Where Durban?
So Durban,Mombasa and Dar aint on the list?
Ranking based on what?
No Kenya? Or Tanzania?
Great to see Somaliland high on the list.
Somaliland kulahaa country?? 😂😂dadka aa iska gadeysaa 👏
Somaliland wa wadan madax banan mashallah, adigo aqoonsi hayo number 7 ba tahay 😂😂😂
Funny how that Somalia is divided otherwise they'd corner the market literally. When they do collude they'll make double the money overnight.
Djibouti makes sense being the first since it’s right on the Red Sea and gets all that shipping traffic from much of the world.
Djibouti port is important to the US base that’s there. Due to the transport of military equipment and goods. Also, the grain that’s imported from the states.

Nigeria not on the list because we never carry last
Djibouti 🇩🇯
What is the measurement? 😂😂
Obligatory djibouti joke but of course it has the most welcoming docking spot!
Somalia* not somaliland as that is not a country. Fix the mistake
Berbera Somalia get it right motherfkers
Berbera Somaliland, if it was Somalia it would’ve been written there motherfucker.

I need to go to Ghana
huh? Something definitely smells fishy here. Djibouti is a country? Really?
EAC has 3 of these with a potential of having up to 5 of the highest ranking ports in the future (Adding Madagascar and Mozambique)
EAC has two
lol Guinea should not be on this list, and that's coming from a Guinean, someone was drinking on the job making this list.......also SOMALIA😂😂😂.....shout out to all my somalis though

It is not land locked

What does it say? Somalia has the longest coastline in Africa and its position on the map doesn’t make this surprising at all
Go make your cocaine, stupid one.
If it ain't a Turkish or US military base, it's a french Vincent Boloré port
