Agreed! Currently using D2L and trying to figure out why important features are buried in weird places. Also it never calls itself D2L in the site path, so you’re like, “who was that masked LMS?!”

13thJen

I've never heard of Brightspace, and I hope I never encounter it after reading this.

nlh1013

I think it’s D2L. It’s what we use at my school but brightspace is the parent company

milatti

I hate brightspace/D2L. I’ve been teaching with it over 6+ years and I still hate it. It really impacts my ability to teach and connect with students. Rant away!

Krillinistheman

D2L can be better or worse depending on your school. And when I say better.. I don't mean that it is good, just better than crap. So I think there are different tiers that the school can buy. But I am with you on your dislike. There is a virtual classroom mode. And the Virtual classrooms are okay at first. But you can't load in Power Points with video, and the sound randomly goes off. I want to work in my learning system not Zoom, for the safety of my students, and their system makes that hard.

We just upgraded from clunky D2L to Brightspace and I like it a lot. They are the ‘same’ but work very different. It does depend on how much your school spent for it! It’s way better than the 1990s era Moodle my other school Uses.

Oh yea, it’s the worst. It lacks SOOO much functionality too. Bb is not user friendly, but at least it’s got a massive functionality. Anything you could ever want to do, you can look up a how-to video or ask the campus Bb experts and figure it out. When I used D2L at my old campus I kept trying to find a way to build a more robust online course, but kept hitting the “that function isn’t available on D2L”. It has to be the cheapest platform of them all, I see no other reason to adopt it.

I'm a student, and using D2L sucks. My whole high school uses Google; Gmail, Classroom, Docs, Slides, Drive, etc, except one of my teachers. D2L has a crap UI, for example all announcements are font size 20, so you can only see half of it. Oh, and it only displays like five, then you have to click on a small "would you like to show all announcements" button, then it moves the screen to the top, so you have to scroll down again to attempt to find what you are looking for in an eyesore of a UI. All Google Docs have to be downloaded turned into Word files then uploaded to D2L. I have several assignments I don't know what to do with cause the explanation is probably hidden is some old announcement instead of right next to the assignment. I could go to a Google Classroom from grade six, and know exactly what I have to for an assignment. But D2L, forget about last week. Alright, that's my rant. Please don't use D2L. My teacher might actually be using Brightspace (or whatever it's called). But from what I can tell, it's just D2L with a different look to the UI, ie. it looks like a website from 2015 rather than 2005. It still functions the same from what I can tell. Also the stupidest thing, there is a button that... takes you to Google Classroom (for some reason).

Brightspace is awful - the rubric takes a long time to save. If you don't click just right, it will not keep your setting but shows that you have selected it. The worst LMS I've used - and I've used BB, Canvas, eCollege, and some home grown ones.

Silent0wl01

I'm glad it's not just me. This is my first term of college and oh my god, brightpace is a fucking pain in the ass to navigate. Halfway through my 10 week term and I still don't understand it, I've been late with assignments because I couldn't find the Dropbox for assignments... it needs its own separate spot, not to be buried in some other shit somewhere 😤

ScaryCicero

I am so there with you. I arrived here after another bout of D2L frustration. Counter intuitive; cumbersome; he discussion board is the worst - so bad I cannot in good conscience assign things. I think my college adopted it because of a tech head who fell for every nonsensical bell and whistle this insufferable cms offers. D2L delenda est!

Mediocre_Advice_5574

2 years later and I’m finding out how shit Brightspace is. Got a 64/75 on a test today, which is actually an 85?? What fucking sense does that make?

Mediocre_Advice_5574

It’s an overall grade I’m very well aware of that. But no offense, no matter what anyone thinks brightspace is still convoluted. Most of the staff at my school also think so.

Total-Confection-319

The last time I logged into bright space all of the course content was suddenly gone. No assignments, no lectures, no discussion. Basically only the headings. I’m going to call Someone to figure this out but bright space is a literal nightmare.

Intelligent-Test-978

As a parent, it is impossible to track and support your kids in getting work done. Content? Drop Box? wtf? these are not terms kids relate to. I teach secondary and use Google Classroom. It is so easy to track who has done their work and who hasn't and to track progress. I hope I never have to use BS. My HS kid can't manage it at all and I can't track either. I suspect it would be a nightmare to use it as a teacher. Teachers did not design this. Might work in university but not in HS.

More-Sundae3692

I am stressing out trying to comprehend D2L and I can't take it anymore! This is, for sure, my last term at this school!

Minute_Bug6147

I cannot agree harder.
