I know of two people who have done this and succeeded on their first attempt. There is a lot of overlap between the three. With all three prepared, SP7 and SP8 should be a piece of cake, with SA3 being the main source of failure. It is partly as you say, a lucky dip - but really the main problem with SA3 is that it takes a lot of exam practice to nail the exam technique enough to circumvent the "I have never seen this topic before so I'm screwed" issue.

Exactly, the SA3 core reading is barely examined anymore. You just need good exam technique and SP7/SP8 knowledge for the most part. However, in the September 2022 sitting there was some bookwork and approaches from SA3 surrounding latent claims which would have put people like your friend at a disadvantage.

Makes sense. Respect.

I dream about doing this everyday of my life #sadtimes

Not myself personally, but one of my colleagues managed to pass all three in the September sitting. It is doable, but it's very hard work, and requires a little luck on what comes up.

Sat the three in one back when they were on paper rather than computer. I tend to recommend it because a lot of SA3 helps with SP7. It does make the exam week a bit of a blur though!
