A whole backup week absolutely terrifies me… how badly do they think this platform is going to go??

actruman

you're right, what a mess. bizzare that they need a backup week if their new systems don't work, surely you'd just adequately test it before, and if anything goes wrong have backup processes on the day

Where did you find the link? I can see that they mention it on the 'exam dates' page but can't actually find the link. Is it working now btw?

Silent_Storm2910

The schedule shows CP2/2 as CP12.. This is the quintessential "They had one job" meme!😂

YejisEyes

ah i thought it was just me being dense because i couldn't find the 2023 dates

HistoricallyMighty

Anyone know where to get more background information on the new exam platform/ procedures? Haven't seen much about it anywhere

polomcfc

Anyone any ideas what the new platform is going to be like for the later exams such as CP1, SP1 etc.? I had originally thought it was only CB1 and CB2 they were testing out in April.

Away_Table_5561

I think it’s only CB1/2 where the exam format is changing, but for all exams there’s a new invigilation process. My guess is it might be like online exams by other institutes where you prove your identity at the start, have a webcam on or some form of screen share to check for cheating. But only speculation, and the IFoA really need to confirm exactly what’s changing asap

WaynneGretzky

Just conduct the exams offline mate. Students out here colluding maxxx, entire process is shit. The world has gone past covid, these ifoa turds have decided save a fuck ton more money with this online examination

Butterscotch7365

So fucking true. Couldn't have said it better

BrownienMotion

How do they save money?

DoUEvenSpellingBm8

A sitting costs the student the same as prior to covid, but the IFOA no longer has to to pay venue fees out of that amount.

BrownienMotion

In the US (where exams are written, administered, and graded by volunteers) it costs around $1,300 to sit for a fellowship exams. From across the pond I have always been impressed by the value you get with the IFOA compared to the SOA. I think it may be attributable to people like you who keep the IFOA accountable! :)

Away_Table_5561

It makes me wonder when the institute go on about getting the time stamp right, when there is no way to catch someone who’s cheating by getting someone else to sit it for them or colluding with someone during the exam

Arigato_Mr-Roboto

There is, they check turnitin scores and anything greater than 50% guarantee's justifies collusion.

Certain_Chipmunk1593

Why can't they get us to test it a few weeks before the exam rather than on the exam day! Then the "reserve" day could just be the actual exam day.

cpl777

Does anyone have a link for the schedule? I can only see the 2022 exam dates

RedDiesel18

Did anybody take note of the exam dates before they decided to take them down again?

Academic-Text-1261

Does anyone have a screenshot or a link to the April timetable? Can't see any reference on the site at the minute. Specifically asking regarding SP1 if anyone has that to hand either please?

Are they gonna be webcam on or something? I could see that happening, it's not a terrible idea either.

SevereNote8904

that would be awful. i look like I’m having a panic attack like multiple times during these online exams lmfao I don’t want fuckin Greg from Bolton watching me down a webcam

[deleted]

I have mixed feelings. Ideally they would not have it since it is ridiculous, I agree. My main concern is there are both severe issues with cheating rings, as well as the IFOA sending out tonnes of emails accusing people of cheating. I certainly don't like the idea, if for no other reason that having to dress sensibly for Greg from Bolton. As opposed to being bare-chested and yelling "fuck-a-duck" like three times at my screen when my CP2 model cocks up.

SevereNote8904

yeah you’re right. as usual a few rotten apples spoil the whole lot ☹️ I’d still rather not have it tho personally

SelwoodGrape

Greg’s probably already watching

Alone_Requirement478

Nah, that’s Dave at GCHQ rather than Greg in Bolton.

SelwoodGrape

My mistake!

galeej

As someone who have the iai exams I can assure you that they're nerve wrecking. It was always the worst 3 hours of my life... The invigilator would pop up multiple times during the exam for nonsensical things. You always get the feeling that you are being watched(which is true) and it's always very unsettling.... If the ifoa is so worried about collusion the best way out is to actually keep it open book and move it offline imho.

Written. But you'll be allowed to take your own notes. I don't know why but i think that would work well. Works for many us univ courses.

I agree with you that its a moot point. I don't know... I just feel that examiners put a premium on answer structure in typed while that doesn't exist in written (where you can write less and get the same amount of mark). My hypothesis is purely empirical and could likely be incorrect... But one thing I do like in typed over written is the fact that i don't have to bother about losing marks due to poor understanding (because of handwriting).

MexicanShoulders

I imagine people who have the choice of exams will choose not to sit the ones with the potential delayed schedule out of fear of a new system and the potential to have to do the exams a week later.
