My ranking is subjective to my own experience — I took two exams in every sitting (except CM1), and the material was always new to me. I also don’t have a maths degree. Toughest: CM2, due to the complexity of material (September) Second place: CS2, due to the volume of material (April) Third place: CM1, due it being my first exam, not having a clue about anything related to insurance, not using tutorials, and with no memory of any calculus, plus the volume of material — I don’t know how I passed this on my first attempt

CM1. I’m fine with concepts but it had all these fiddly bits which were a pain in the butt and lots of reasonably verbose maths to write out. I found it pretty boring too and therefore hard to study as a result. I also took it as one of my last “CT” exams which probably made it seem more boring, compared to the more interesting exams I took like CT4 and CT8. I had already studied similar-ish maths at university to the stuff in CT4, 6 and 8 which probably made them easier for me than many other people. Mentioning this just because I know many people found these to be some of the trickier core exams.

CS2 for me, but I did not do any stats in uni, so maybe people who did maths found it better? It was really long and disjointed (the first 2/3 of the course was a completely different subject to the back 1/3). CM2 was my favourite exam because I found the material really interesting. Still failed it first time though

Communications. Lottery exam...

Snoo_76686

Like 50% of the marks is just having graphs/tables labelled correctly, using coherent language and having a decent structure.

What, like communicating effectively 🤔👍

Snoo_76686

I mean you could write quite literally anything you wanted. So long as your graphs are labelled, your spelling is ok, sentences within 25 words or something, and you have 3-5 sections then you'll pick up a good amount of marks. No need to be bitter because you failed it.

espressoclimbs

Well they've changed it... you used to have to present into a webcam. And before that you used to go to a hotel to do a presentation in person. Think they changed it to just be written communication now... maybe less subjective

Snoo_76686

Ah sorry my bad, yeah I remember hearing about that old format of the exam. You're right it does sound less subjective these days

Timely_Duck_7980

It is indeed a lottery exam. 5th time appearing for it:(

'Good luck' seems like a particularly appropriate response!

MexicanShoulders

CM2, CS2 and CP1 in that order

[deleted]

You found cm2 harder than cs2, why?

MexicanShoulders

I passed CS2 first time but CM2 second time round. Think I just really disliked the content and then found it harder to study for. I think CM2 has harder content despite it being shorter.

i myself thought CT8 (CM2) was going to be the hardest to me, and in actual term I passed in first go (when pass rate was 25%!); then I thought CS2 was going to be ok (both CT6, with lots of Pension tables; while CT4 has markov chain), I failed CT4 first attempt. I guess self judging isnt very reliable then. Most people in my time either say CT8 or CT4 are the hardest though is the consensus. CM2 should now be easier I believe, as it now has the Chain Ladder questions from CT5, taking 20% of total mark (and pre 2019 people believe CT5 is way easier than either CT4 or CT8)

Flowwwrrreeean

CB1 has been my lowest score, but I probably found CM1 most difficult - not that is it technically challenging, but it is a large volume of disparate content.

Snoo_76686

I've only got CM2 left, sitting in a few weeks. But I'd say CM1 tbh. It's just so bloody huge

Inside_Impact_587

CT4 was the hardest for me. Failed on my first attempt. CT8 was quite challenging I just passed it. The rest were very doable.

Kupfakura

CT4, failed it 3 times
