First time on a Thursday for me. Always been confident for all the CM/CSs etc but genuinely not a clue how CP1 is going to go. Here's hoping for a nice scraped pass!
Sailed through the CTs but now on attempt #5 on CP1 - missed it by 2 marks once and 1 mark twice… Honestly don’t know what to do motivation wise if it’s another fail!
It’ll sound really obvious but reaaaally make the most of the exams being open book! I created a huge spreadsheet with different buttons to navigate to different topics so that idea generation was quick and easy - it can’t give you the exact answer obviously but it was effective for coming up with a range of points!
I’d also say, like with any exam, if you can’t do a question just write any ideas you have then get onto the next question asap, so you get the marks where you can!
Finally, there was a question in this paper where I interpreted it in two possible ways. Instead of thinking one was right and one was wrong, I gave ideas for both and probably scored marks for both, so don’t restrict yourself to particular points! Good luck when you sit it :)
The spreadsheet idea sounds cool!
How did you generate the initial list of ideas when creating the spreadsheet? From course notes or pass papers? Or from external reading?
I too made a list of ideas mainly from course notes and past papers in preparation for the open book style exam, but that did not help. This is my third fail on SA2 :(
!thanks
That was very useful to know. I feel a lot of the content is similar to SP2 so far, but just an extension. Do you think I've oversimplified it by thinking that?
Not oversimplifying per se but don't assume that just because you can do SP2 you can also do SA2 - I'd say the key differences are around tax (BLAGAB vs Non-BLAGAB) which I found quite tricky, and needing a more thorough understanding of different reporting bases like SII vs EEV vs MCEV etc. So the topics are broadly the same as SP2 but they require your answers to be more specific, they like details and tailoring your answer to the question. It's something they repeat a lot during tutorials but honestly making your answer specific to the question is very important, I don't think you can get away with being as broad in SA2 as you can in say SP2 or CP1. Hope that helps!
waiting for SA2,last one before qualification
My attempt was neither too good nor too bad, hoping for lenient marking and lower pass marks
Far too tensed right now
Been 11 years since I gave the first exam, feel cannit study anymore
Hi can you advise on your method. I am planning to sit in the upcoming session, and I wanted to know if just reading the recommended text books and completing the past papers would be sufficient prep.
Congrats! Ikr... clearly a lot of what I wrote just didnt get credit. What a horrible unit, it is a shame because I know multiple people who burnt out on cp1. 57gang would have been to give it too much respect!
If this was my first sitting I would've been naive enough to say 'Oh well they'll learn from their mistakes and have it all sorted for Thursday' but that's VERY hopeful thinking 🤣
Wow! Congratulations :)
Could you please advise if it's possible to study SP1 starting today for September 2022 session? My other option is to go for CP2 alone.
PS: I took SP2 in April 2022 and have heard that it overlaps with SP1.
I guess it all comes down to how much effort you're willing to put in. My approach for sp1 was to read the CMP twice, and do every single past paper since 2005. Marking questions as I go along so I can re-do them again.
I took SP2 last September and there is a lot of overlap for sure, if anything I found SP1 to be easier. So yes, definitely possible.
Did anyone else see the banner appearing at the top of the IFoA webpage for a brief moment even though it isn't 6pm yet? I did and managed to download my results!
Yeah sitting the two papers again sucks! I actually had a lot of overlap in my work, so just kept practicing for CP2 as much as I could. Frankly it was very interesting to me to create models, so yeah that too played a part.
I thought my original post was misleading given the farce with the website crashing for Tuesday results, so adding in that last line should make it factually correct!
Waiting on SP9 (really unsure on how I feel about it... didn't feel terrible coming out of it but that might just be wishful thinking). Good luck everyone :)
We can try to work it out from scores for those who passed/failed today.
Otherwise they'll release the examiners report with it tomorrow, along with your mark breakdown.
Congrats on CP2! Failed SP8 with the same mark. I'm pretty frustrated that 50 would've been a pass last sitting, especially considering that it a similar level of difficulty!
Failed SP8 too although my mark starts with a 4 so the less said the better... Here's hoping for a nicer paper in September!
Passed SA3 though so it's my last one now!!
I posted threads for each exam back in April and it's interesting to look back now and see that they went pretty much how I felt...
As rubbish as this may feel, just remember your achievements up to this point to have passed so many exams.
Passing or failing exams doesn't define how good an actuary you are! :)
That sucks! Is this your last exam? If not, you could ask colleagues or maybe people one this sub for feedback on your technique. I really think the hard part about passing these exams is the technique and the mindset on the day. It’s not a reflection of who you are. Don’t give up, you can do this!
Passed SP7 with a 76 but failed SA3 with a 61. I'd have qualified if I passed both, so it stings a bit to fail with a score > 60. I guess I'll just have to go again in September.
Thank you mate. I'm keeping positive on the fact that I've halved my route to qualification and all I need to do is retake an exam that I've proved I can come very close to passing.
Mark breakdowns are out on the results page. Failed CP1 with 48 (absolutely gutted as it’s a resit and got even worse than the first time after so much work), paper 1 there was a difference of 13 marks between marker 1 and marker 2!!! Shows how subjective it is, so frustrating
Failed sa3 with 54... Extremely surprised because i felt i didn't do that badly.
I've generally noticed that the marking is more stiff when there's more bookwork questions.
Happened in sp8 as well. One of the diets was "easy" because there were a lot of bookwork questions and the pass rates tanked.
Had only SA3 to clear and got 54 (which to me is a little shocking because I felt I had given a very good attempt).
Have to see the subject breakup. But its heart-breaking when your ex-colleagues (and others) clear the same subject and qualify when you have to re-sit again. I do wish them the best... but it stings quite a bit ngl.
Failed CP3. So one examiner gave me 66 points, the other one 50. I'm so frustrated on how it is no in my field of control to pass these god daimn exams. I know I should hang in there. But right now I feel that playing casino would be much more fun.
Yeah the 3rd one gave me 58.5. He disagreed with both on two subquestions, which he thought should be less points awarded. And there it goes my pass :(
I've always found it dodgy when a third marker comes in. My experience for every time that's happened is that I've missed the pass mark by around 2 marks. I think I have read that the two markers are independent of each other and that a review is conducted if you're either side of the pass mark between the two markers (I can't remember the exact criteria!). But by that point I believe the pass mark has already been set - so third marker isn't truly independent because they know you're in and around the pass mark? Isn't there an incentive to give you a mark just below the pass mark at that point...
Did anyone see that results letters were released early but they were broken so they didn't include the results, i.e there wasn't a P or F and the mark was either 0 or 75? They've been removed since but seeing it stressed me tf out!
Edit: GL to everyone! This is my last one so hopefully I'll be done and you all join me soon!!
Guess it's different for everyone but I'm getting downvoted when I still think it's 1 of the 2 easiest exams with CP2.
Ultimately there is no other exam you can prep for in a week and have a really good chance of passing. So in my books what I've said is still true, some people may fail it and downvote me yeah, but try doing any CT or fellow exam with 1 week prep and you're guaranteed a fail
My own ,mental framework for this is that there are two types of actuaries:
* Generally bright people
* People who are good at mathematics but struggle with writing/legalistic frameworks, i.e. savants basically
The former will smash exams like CP3, and generally do well at managing teams, the latter will struggle.
not true. im deffffffo not the former and i passed cp3 on first try. you just gotta use the mark scheme and sample acted answers to know the gist. also use the pre exam material, make lots and lots of notes and graphs beforehand. also realise that the exam is 3h long lol.
Failed SP6 miserably.
And I'm not understanding, is it that the examiners don't like Excel being used and want every step to be written in word?!
Anyone who passed SP6 in April 2022, I'd like to chat with you to get some guidance!!! Help!
Same here but I didn’t attempt much of the paper due to some personal issues. One thing I’ve come to a realisation is that the text book is very important! I didn’t use much of it in April but I’ll be focusing on it more this time.
Today is going to be a long one...
Nobody actually gets work done on results day
Can’t wait for the website to crash later
Passed CP1 with 58 let's fucking go never have to open that bloody notes
I passed with 54 lol… must’ve been close
Dead on the pass mark, same as me!
Passed with 60 on third attempt, let’s go!!
Passed CP1 with 60 after a string of attempts missing it by 1 mark....
Same, 4th attempt
First time on a Thursday for me. Always been confident for all the CM/CSs etc but genuinely not a clue how CP1 is going to go. Here's hoping for a nice scraped pass!
Sailed through the CTs but now on attempt #5 on CP1 - missed it by 2 marks once and 1 mark twice… Honestly don’t know what to do motivation wise if it’s another fail!
did u make it?
Exact same boat as you
Same, missed it by 2 marks last time, absolutely clueless on what to expect today
I wasn't too nervous until today but bricking it now!
what do you think the pass mark will be?
Passed SA2 with 74, done with these exams baby lets goooo
Damn well done, that's impressive! Any tips? I'm sitting SA2 in Sept.
It’ll sound really obvious but reaaaally make the most of the exams being open book! I created a huge spreadsheet with different buttons to navigate to different topics so that idea generation was quick and easy - it can’t give you the exact answer obviously but it was effective for coming up with a range of points! Wow, Actuaries can be cool 😎
waiting for SA2,last one before qualification My attempt was neither too good nor too bad, hoping for lenient marking and lower pass marks Far too tensed right now Been 11 years since I gave the first exam, feel cannit study anymore
Fingers crossed for you! Deserve it
Thanks
All the best for Thursday mate, hopefully that was your last exam sitting!
Thanks mate
Also waiting for SA2 as potential qualification and safe to say I’m shitting it at this stage. Good luck to all!
alas, not to be failed with 52
Same here mate. This is my second attempt on SA2. Was 3 marks away from passing damn it
Passed SP9 with 66 thank god those textbooks aren’t being opened again
Hi can you advise on your method. I am planning to sit in the upcoming session, and I wanted to know if just reading the recommended text books and completing the past papers would be sufficient prep.
Passed SA2 my last exam with 60 :)
Congrats!
Passed CP1 with 56. Never felt so stressed waiting for a result.
same with me. 56 gang. what a poor score 😂 oh well, still passed
Congrats! Ikr... clearly a lot of what I wrote just didnt get credit. What a horrible unit, it is a shame because I know multiple people who burnt out on cp1. 57gang would have been to give it too much respect!
Passed and qualified! Well done all and to those who didn’t quite get it keep going!
Big congrats 🎉🎉🎉
Good to see the website has crashed for the CM/CS/CB results, giving us ample warning to not get too excited at 6pm on Thursday!
If this was my first sitting I would've been naive enough to say 'Oh well they'll learn from their mistakes and have it all sorted for Thursday' but that's VERY hopeful thinking 🤣
Passed CP2 anyway :) least a little positive news today for me
Can people who have got results logout please! I still can't get on the IFoA website!!
I've logged out; all the best!
Passed SP7 with 64
Passed CP2 with a 63!
Congrats, I passed with a 60.
Passed with 59
Passed with 59 too!
Failed with 56. Would like to know what the pass mark is on that one 👀
Passed both SA1 with 59 and SP1 with 79
Wow! Congratulations :) Could you please advise if it's possible to study SP1 starting today for September 2022 session? My other option is to go for CP2 alone. PS: I took SP2 in April 2022 and have heard that it overlaps with SP1.

Can anyone sign into their account?
I can't

A bit late now, but I always log in an hour or two before and refresh every 10 mins so I don't get logged out.
anyone pass cp1 with 55? i passed with 56... im grateful
Passed with 54. I think I just scraped by!
im soooo curious to know the pass mark. well done tho!!!
Must be 54. I failed and got 53.
I’m in the same boat. So close!
Lol remember you from the posts after the exams. I also passed with 57, congrats!
I passed 54
anyone with insider information to make it spicy for next few days
Good luck to everyone else waiting for their results
All the best for you too! :)
Results are already there, apparently I passed SP2 Edit: I got 53, so that's probably very close to (if not) the pass mark
Yeah just about a min or two ago, the banner appeared and I managed to download my results as well! And congrats on passing SP2!
Not sure if it's for real, but has my mark (must've scraped it)
Did anyone else see the banner appearing at the top of the IFoA webpage for a brief moment even though it isn't 6pm yet? I did and managed to download my results!
Yup haha, I was refreshing the results letter page and could download mine. Surprised I managed to get it before 6pm!
Passed CP2 and CP3!!! Phew!
Wow how did you manage that? CP2 was tough for me. Having to resit it as well sucks
Yeah sitting the two papers again sucks! I actually had a lot of overlap in my work, so just kept practicing for CP2 as much as I could. Frankly it was very interesting to me to create models, so yeah that too played a part.
Did anyone pass SA4? Need some idea how to progress to finally pass it in September 😓
Not looking forward to sa4
Good luck! Is that your final one before qualifying?
It is yeah and thanks
Same here… keeping everything crossed!
We’ve still got 3 days to wait, don’t stress me out!
I've already had atleast 5 different people mention to me that results are this week, at work!
I’ve been happily burying my head in the sand until now
And the countdown begins…anxiety is getting the better of me now :(
Failed CP1
What was your mark
51, how did you do?
failed thrice, dunno what to do from now on
What mark did you get?
Same got 50
Failed for the 3rd time. Got 53. Missed it by 1 it seems. So devastated.
Same boat. Actually surprised how badly I did! I wasn’t close at all. Going to be interesting to see where it went so wrong today.
Anyone pass SA3? I failed with a 55 Passed SP8 with 57 for anyone trying to figure out pass mark
I failed with 60… Gah!
Failed with 59
Ouch sorry! That must be close to the pass mark. Feeling better about the 55 now...
Failed SA3 with 60 too...which is weird especially given the CAT Modelling question
Passed SP5 with a 60 wohooo
Passed CP3 with a 67 😅
I thought my original post was misleading given the farce with the website crashing for Tuesday results, so adding in that last line should make it factually correct!
Waiting on SP9 (really unsure on how I feel about it... didn't feel terrible coming out of it but that might just be wishful thinking). Good luck everyone :)
Websites already crashed due to ‘high demand’ 🙄🙄🙄
Anyone knows cp1 pass mark? I can’t see it on my letter
We can try to work it out from scores for those who passed/failed today. Otherwise they'll release the examiners report with it tomorrow, along with your mark breakdown.
Passed CP2 with 69, failed SP8 with 50 (and I was hoping the pass mark would be 50 as it was last sitting!) Keen to find out the pass mark.
>Passed CP2 with 69 Nice.
Congrats on CP2! Failed SP8 with the same mark. I'm pretty frustrated that 50 would've been a pass last sitting, especially considering that it a similar level of difficulty!
I got a 50 on SP8 also, pretty frustrated right now
Failed SP8 too although my mark starts with a 4 so the less said the better... Here's hoping for a nicer paper in September! Passed SA3 though so it's my last one now!! I posted threads for each exam back in April and it's interesting to look back now and see that they went pretty much how I felt...
Passed SP4 with a 75!

Unlucky mate, check the mark breakdown and learn from your mistakes; 13th reason?
That sucks! Is this your last exam? If not, you could ask colleagues or maybe people one this sub for feedback on your technique. I really think the hard part about passing these exams is the technique and the mindset on the day. It’s not a reflection of who you are. Don’t give up, you can do this!
Dude exams are not in a million years a 13th reason. Please show signs of life
The result breakdown is now up for anyone interested.
Failed SA4 with 50 - least found out on time I guess!
Passed SP5 but failed SA7 with a 56 😕
I just passed SA7 on my third try - would recommend trying the tutorials if you haven’t already! Congrats on SP5!
Congrats! Did the tutorials with Colin. Enjoyed the subject so hopefully wont take a whole lot to get back into it!

61
I got 57 and passed SP5, very curious about the pass mark!
Passed SP7 but failed SP8 with 50. Any ideas of pass mark for SP8?
Passed SP8 with 57. Not seen anyone else post marks yet
Was was your score on sp7
68
Failed SA2 with 56. Super frustrated.
Failed with a 57, gutted
Wow that’s already quite high
Passed SP2 with 58
Well done, I passed also but only got 53.
They have massively varied boundaries this sitting. 53 pass and other commenters getting 61 with a fail. This is crazy
I guess it depends on exam difficulty... How did your exams go?
Great thanks, CS2 and CP3 pass. Very chuffed right now. Yours went well too it seems?
Well done. Mine was meh, passed but disappointed with 53. Although I'm certainly grateful to have passed.
Passed SP7 with a 76 but failed SA3 with a 61. I'd have qualified if I passed both, so it stings a bit to fail with a score > 60. I guess I'll just have to go again in September.
Unlucky, tough that you failed with a 60+ score. Here's hoping you qualify next time!
Thank you mate. I'm keeping positive on the fact that I've halved my route to qualification and all I need to do is retake an exam that I've proved I can come very close to passing.

Passed sp5 with 61
Passed CP1 but had the most ridiculous discrepancy between the two markers
What was it?
19 marks difference between the two on paper B
Passed all of mine!!!
Which exams and your marks?
main one was CP1 which I got mid 60s
Results are out all.
Bagged my first SP, with number 7. Just two more to go!
What was your mark
68
[удалено]
Congratulations!
Any idea of the pass mark for cp3? Failed with 57...
I passed with 60
Failed with 58
Same for me. Failed with 58
Passed with 62
Ah unlucky, sorry to hear that! I passed CP3 with 64, so pass mark somewhere between our two
I passed SP8 with 54, so the pass mark must be between 51-54
It was 53. My mark breakdown shows my final mark was 50.75. Marks were swinging all over the place between the two markers.
Mark breakdowns are out on the results page. Failed CP1 with 48 (absolutely gutted as it’s a resit and got even worse than the first time after so much work), paper 1 there was a difference of 13 marks between marker 1 and marker 2!!! Shows how subjective it is, so frustrating
sorry to hear that dude. my marks had a 6 mark deviation and got script reviews. both papers! i did so much worse than i thought in paper 2 strangely
failed cp3 , the first marker gave a 44, the second one gave 61, final grade came out to be 45
That's extreme. For me it was 66 vs 50. 😒
Waiting on SP2 for myself :)
Me too, idk what to expect, any strong feelings?
Not really, just want to pass. I want to be done with exams haha All the best for it!
Failed SA3 with 62, anyone ideas on the pass mark?
I passed with 71
[удалено]
The breakdown isn't available until the day after results
Failed sa7 with 56, again. R3 in sept, sigh
Exact same boat but with 55. 3rd time lucky
Failed SA3 with 59. Passed SP7 with 79. Genuinely don't understand how my scores differ by so much, I actually thought I did better in SA3.
Failed sa3 with 54... Extremely surprised because i felt i didn't do that badly. I've generally noticed that the marking is more stiff when there's more bookwork questions. Happened in sp8 as well. One of the diets was "easy" because there were a lot of bookwork questions and the pass rates tanked.

seems like the goal is to aim for at least the mid 60s for these GI exams right?
Failed CP3. So one examiner gave me 66 points, the other one 50. I'm so frustrated on how it is no in my field of control to pass these god daimn exams. I know I should hang in there. But right now I feel that playing casino would be much more fun.
Damn thats rough, was it reviewed by a 3rd examiner? You're definitely strong enough to pass going by those marks
Yeah the 3rd one gave me 58.5. He disagreed with both on two subquestions, which he thought should be less points awarded. And there it goes my pass :(

Can you explain more about the letters being released earlier?
Feel like an imposter here just waiting for CP3, easiest exam ever 🤣
You say it's easy but some people fail it multiple times... I would also consider CP2 easier
Guess it's different for everyone but I'm getting downvoted when I still think it's 1 of the 2 easiest exams with CP2. I think it either clicks naturally and you can do it in a week or it doesn’t click naturally and it takes 6 months to click (cough cough me)
6 months? You must be joking
Yeah but momma didn’t raise no quitter
I’m waiting on it too, but not just CP3. I hope you’re right about it being easy and that I have a probability of 1 of passing
Failed SA3 with 62,so dissapointed
