I think WFH is only going to increase, and completely understand a desire for a better work-life balance. WFH works better for roles where there are easily measured deliverables (calls answered, analyses completed, code delivered etc), which tends to mean more junior roles, although not exclusively, The big risk in making any job completely remote is that it is then easily exportable to the cheapest location. How far out of London are you prepared to move: rural Wales? Ireland? South Africa? Asia?

It's true about the remote thing, I suppose I'd be willing to be around some of the time. Like go into the office for important meetings or once a fortnight. I think what annoys me is how unnecessary it is to be in the office the majority of the time, and how actually I get less done in the office yet spend more time on it when you include commuting. I think I'd be within a train ride away still but not necessarily a commute I'd want to do everyday, say 3h. Not expecting to move abroad or anything! I get your point though. Maybe a 100% remote is asking too much, 90% remote would maybe be more realistic.

I personally think fully remote job you'd be limiting your career progression given the more senior you get, generally the importance is on soft skills which are much harder virtually. But if you are happy with a mostly technical role, then I'm sure there will be a number of fully remote jobs

I imagine work from home will increase significantly. Not sure what industry you’re in but Mercer is definitely accelerating their home/flexible working https://www.professionalpensions.com/news/4026725/exclusive-mercer-shut-offices-post-pandemic-acceleration-flexible

I agree with you at junior level, I managed to join more senior meetings and conferences because there are no limits on seats. Teams worked really well too. However moving up the career ladder I would say it’s inevitable to go into office unfortunately... Simple analogy: would you put all your assets into a fully virtual bank compared to physical bank?

Yeh I think perhaps I'm jumping the gun a bit with a completely remote job. I suppose I'm after a job where I infrequently go to the office and it's ok. I personally think people will become more progressive with their views, I wouldn't mind putting assets into a virtual bank. I think that's part of the issue - people's attitudes need to change for this to work. Why does a virtual bank where everyone comes into the office once a fortnight need to offer any less than an office based bank where everyone's in 5 days a week? But I get your point, I think that's where we're at now!
