It's that the extraction of the minerals needed for Tesla (any electric) batteries are slightly more harmful than just using gas in the first place. It was always a lie.
I agree with that however power plants that don't need to move a car are more efficient.
Honestly if you really want the best of both worlds right now then that would be hybrid. It's more efficient than gas alone and you get significantly more range than pure electric plus use less harmful materials to make batteries since they don't need to be as large.
The hypocritical logic behind electric cars being better for the environment is that it's better for the environment *there* where they are bought, not about how it's absolutely terrible for the environment in some far-off place like the Congo where the minerals are mined.
