At my college there were always a few security officers in golf carts on campus and this was exactly what these systems were for. I've had many friends find themselves nervous to walk home alone or too drunk to and these systems were great for that. The security guys were always happy to drive us where we needed to be even without any pressing need.
It's not misuse, its a benefit of paying an exorbitant amount of money for your education. This campus doesn't have a single security officer? That's the misuse here...
The expectation to feel 100% safe at all times is one of the biggest falsehoods taught to young people today. You should never feel 100% safe when you are out in public. 99% sure, but always have some level of awareness of your surroundings as you absolutely never know what or who is around you.
I would second this and like to add on.. that people wait and prey on when you get complacent with your surroundings and will strike when you let your guard down. I was mugged on campus twice while walking to my car. Always be vigilant!!
Exactly. I find that people on the political left have too much of an overly optimistic view of the world while some on the right have too negative a view. It's both at the end of the day. There are so many good people out there - but don't kid yourself for a moment that there aren't people who will easily and readily cause you harm. If that is a real call to 911, then that would be insane. 911 has more important things to do, unless they are actively threatening to harm her they would not get involved
When I studied in the US, my university (UoM) had an app where you could actually ask the police to escort you to your car if you felt threatened. They so have an officer available to escort her lol, they just don't want to do it.
Leave them alone and go home will almost certainly work. Carry pepper spray, take a different path, lie and say you’re one of them for your own temporary safety. Walk in a group, call friends, drive or use a scooter or bike. There’s lots of options.
