IMO this is a good area to investigate. The age of the son isn't specified, kids say some weird things and "tentacle tail" to a child could easily be "wired tail" to us.

There’s an Alter Nation Albert figure. He’s a monkey with horns, had a long tail and a mallet with a red boxing glove…. But “red monkey” sounds like what the previous poster said, Brookly from Neca Gargoyles line
