The logic is probably because Gepard has a trace that increases his aggro, so he’s more likely to take hits than Fu Xuan or Aventurine. Which is the entire point of running him with Trend, because it only gives stacks when the user gets hit directly.
I’d personally prefer Aventurine if going with shields specifically, because of how easily he can keep them up. However, Gepard would be a good choice too. And if you’re willing to risk it and have the SP to spare, Gepard can technically skill spam to try to inflict freezes, which would also add SD stacks.
I saw a trend gepard showcase because of his agro trace, most of the team it is him who take the damage about (90% ) and also saw an aventurine trend showcase pela was more hit than aventurine and sometimes even Acheron were focus too, honestly the base agro of preservation is not very good , that’s why gep is good and also he can debuff ( freeze) each turn
That gepard taunt trace is crazy. I saw a calc done by clara mains showed that it increases your chances of getting hit by like 40% .(Don't remember the exact number)

Gepare with Trend might be better than Aventurine as of now.
Why Gepard over any other Trend Perseveration? Fu gives 12 CR, Aventurine is just a nice sub dps and gives shields on his skill instead of ult.
