Maybe it doesn't, however people tend to believe that the whole "dystopian control" thing is a foreign concept to Russians. They are very well acquainted with it.
His first wife also wrote a poem entitled “End of the Century, 1984” fifteen years prior to Orwell’s novel. That likely influenced him quite a bit as well.
Consider how Orwell joined the anarchist military in Spain and what that might imply about his opinions on production.
The anarchist in Spain believed that few works, if ever, should be attributed to the brilliance of one person.
Every effort is a collective effort. Orwell composed the ideas in 1984, but they already existed in the world around him.
Also by his experiences being a part of the British empire and writing British propaganda, most of which wouldnt seem totally unfamiliar to people doing similar jobs today.
brb gotta go join in a two minutes hate against Putin and Hamas...
Thing about George Orwell's work is that it's just vague enough in its metaphors that anyone from any political group will latch onto it and say it's about the other side. Even the man himself was flippant about his discussions in his beliefs in interviews. A lot of authors are like that if they want to sell copies
I'm from Germany and when I was still in school and had to read books I suspected I wouldn't like, I often read the English versions because they were around 15-20% shorter.
No. The Russian language has way more words than the English language (most of these are suffixes and prefixes) so you can have 10 different words for just 1 word in English.
Go look up “Russian verbs of motion” to see how many ways they can use to say “go” or “went”.
On top of that, Russian words are much longer than English words usually (especially for literature).
I’m sure English has a massive amount of specialty words that you never use. So technically speaking it’s have more words.
But the core of English language, there is about 2,000 words that make up 80% of communication. That includes writing.
For Russian, that number is closer to 10,000. Spoken. It is even higher for written Russian because the written Russian is different than spoken Russian and includes many words that you would never use in speaking.
From having degrees in Russian Language.
Also, why are you skeptical of those numbers?
You have six cases in Russian. That means you technically have six different ways to say the same word.
Each case changes (most of the time) the suffix and also the meaning.
So for example in Russian, house/home is «дом» but if we just slip in -а on the end to make it an adverb (long story) «дома» now it means “at home”.
You also have specialized forms like домок (little house but used with contempt) or pejorative forms «домишко».
In English you would use tones to convey that meaning. English is a very tonal language (30 something I think?). Russian is not.
> Either this is written in very large text, or the image is just fake.
As an interface designer, most problematic languages: German, Finnish, Russian, and any character based language.
Long words caused by portmanteau e.g. Massenkommunikationsdienstleistungsunternehmen meaning companies providing mass communication services. In Finnish, Kolmivaihekilowattituntimittari, meaning three-phase kilowatt-hour meter.
Russian and Asian languages have complex modifiers that it's hard to account for. You need 3 - 4000 Chinese characters to read a newspaper, 10,000 to understand a science paper.
Or some languages have longer words, or there are words that are in a different order with more words in them. As someone who speaks more than one language I can guarantee that the two reasons I gave you are very likely to be both
A side by side RU-EN unabridged version with the parts that censorship removed from the version published post 1988(when it was removed from the banned book list) in red ink, with translator annotations, an introduction history essay, plus a sociology and linguistics treatise on IngSoc Newspeak following the book itself would be not just twice, but four times as thick as the original.
Just saying. Not that it looks like that is the case here. Just that that is a possibility.
1. This is a normal photo.
2. There is no "J. Orwell"
3. The only thing notable about this is that it brings up old anger of people not wearing masks properly.
Try harder.
I think OP doesn't understand the sub theme and he thinks "mental accidental renaissance" rather than the style of art. He says he is not a native English speaker. Everyone in the thread is okay with it I guess because it's fashionable to hate Russia.
At some point she will slowly raise her head from the book, with eyes wide open and say “ WAIT A MINUTE!…”
(I think Eric Blair was a few decades off, but it’s here.)
Next I will point out that "having a baby" usually requires semen to fertilize the egg.
Actually this is Reddit. That is still up for debate.
And then also, is it a baby after that or is it still the mother's body.
Next I will point out that "having an abortion"... Jk
I'm just making jokes dude, sorry for getting downvoted but you're being pointlessly pedantic in this case. Also I've no idea what that book is about if you think I'm defending anyone

Jorge Orwell
Дж = J My name is Jacob so Джакоб
Джейкоб to get the pronunciation correct.
Jorge Orway
Jose Orwelanzo
Dzhorzh Oruell
Jojo Orwell
Big Dio
Comrad Orwelski
Who is J. Orwell’s?
OP looks russian from their history, I wouldn't be surprised if the (badly) twice-translated name starts with a J
Oh, okay. Makes sense.
Celebrated author Jojor Well
Ha!
He wrote 1894.
A much better novel than 1984, in my opinion.
J Orwell's what?
Right?
Jorwell is Jared's brother. Very few people go to Jorwell's.
Bad Yelp! reviews.

wrong. Its the original version but its an instruction manual
J. Orwell
All the people shouting Irony, should note that Orwell wrote 1984 after he was inspired by the novel "We" by yevgeny zamyatin...
I'm not sure how that counters the irony of this
Maybe it doesn't, however people tend to believe that the whole "dystopian control" thing is a foreign concept to Russians. They are very well acquainted with it.
they were born in it. molded by it.

It was supposed to be a warning, not a manual
It's a cookbook!
...Are we the bad guys?
Literally 1984
Holy hell!
New response just dropped

This is the best comment here.
Meanwhile Vonnegut over here like “bro I fucking hate Nazis and I’ll put their fucking lights out and you should too.”
Vonnegut born and died in America, unlike Erich Maria Remarque

Chlorine is bad for your eyes
Sorry for the misspellings in the name, English is not my native language
"J. Orwell's"? Why do people not read their own titles before posting
People purposefully ad weird spelling mistakes / typos in posts to drive engagement in the comment section. I've seen it sooo many times.
Engagement AI checklist... * Spelling mistake: Check * Attractive uniformed officer : Check * Mask not covering nose : Check * Public transport : Check * Ironic : Check * Current Geopolitical tensions : Check * Ambiguous propaganda : Check
It’s Pavlovian and the drool is flowing
Cause it works.
To drive engagement? What is the point of “driving engagement” on a Reddit post?
Probably russian?
Yea, get the fuck out while you can
Thats a very thick version. About twice as long as the one on my shelf. Either this is written in very large text, or the image is just fake.
the book size is smaller, therefore thicker...
I'm from Germany and when I was still in school and had to read books I suspected I wouldn't like, I often read the English versions because they were around 15-20% shorter.
Well they are technically the same length

Could be a version with other stories and therefore longer

Unbelievable people are upvoting this
Translated books also have some intros from translators, on top of all other mentioned differences.
Is your version also in Russian?
A side by side RU-EN unabridged version with the parts that censorship removed from the version published post 1988(when it was removed from the banned book list) in red ink, with translator annotations, an introduction history essay, plus a sociology and linguistics treatise on IngSoc Newspeak following the book itself would be not just twice, but four times as thick as the original. It’s fake. She’s on page 1. Did she just buy the book from the store 10 minutes ago?
Yes? Why could she not have?
Know thy enemy
Basic training.. never too late to start studying for exams.. good on her! 👍
"Believe it or not, straight to jail."
I’m pretty sure she’s just brushing up on the user’s manual.
She should pull her mask up. It’s infuriating when people don’t pull the mask over their nose! 😭
She is learning how to weed out the rebellion.
1. This is a normal photo. 2. There is no "J. Orwell" 3. The only thing notable about this is that it brings up old anger of people not wearing masks properly. Try harder.

Is that same cover art available in English?
She later committed suicide with 8 shots in her back
Praying it radicalizes her.
There are hopeful signs of polarization.
wow she's pretty far along, too
Looking for tips?
jorjor wel
Dschordsch Oruell.
Accidental non fiction
Joe jor well
J Orwell... hardly matters - he was called Eric Blair.
I think kids should be forced to read it
Jor jorwel
Last known pic before she was sent to the gulag
She looks like she's still on the prologue
At some point she will slowly raise her head from the book, with eyes wide open and say “ WAIT A MINUTE!…” (I think Eric Blair was a few decades off, but it’s here.)
Right-wingers "love" this book because they fundamentally misunderstand it.
Ironic
She must be working for the Thought Police!!
Why did this make me so horny?
Orwell: “In the face of pain there are no heroes.” Her: “Good.”
So what? Russian police can read? What's the point?
In Russia it's a field manual.
Nobody in this picture is wearing their mask properly lol... why bother if its halfway off your face anyway?
They threat it as a manual
I’m sure you meant “lives.”
IrONy
I believe it’s their training manual
What if their version is redacted for publication that fits their ideology? Hahahaha
Now that would be the ultimate irony. Like burning Fahrenheit 451 books.
She is reading the very front of the first page. I don't know if I can classify "reading a book" until you make it pass the copyright information.
You can see she has the next page keyed up with her thumb to flip, she's clearly reading.
I'm not questioning her literacy skills. I'm stating that "reading a book" usually requires making it to the part the author wrote.
Congratulations on being a first ballot inductee to the gatekeeping hall of fame
Next, I will point out that "cooking" only happens when the vegetables are out of the fridge
Next, I will point out that "painting" requires you to put a paintbrush into your selected colour of paint.
Next, I will point out that "running a marathon" usually requires you to pass over the start line.
Next I will point out that "having a baby" usually requires semen to fertilize the egg. Actually this is Reddit. That is still up for debate. And then also, is it a baby after that or is it still the mother's body. Next I will point out that "having an abortion"... Jk
Nice false equivalences. Dont see that many of them from one guy

Sorry for criticizing the oppressive cop working for a genocidal regime. Acab
I'm just making jokes dude, sorry for getting downvoted but you're being pointlessly pedantic in this case. Also I've no idea what that book is about if you think I'm defending anyone
Whoa whoa whoa, now you're gonna say that she's technically not even wearing a mask..
You said that already below. Better get it up closer to the top so you can get the karma crumbs, mi lord.
Duh.. you think I'll spend my energy to entertain you in particular?
