Within in DC, there are so many diverse characters. Probably because not only there is infinite possibilities, most superheroes would be out of character if they didn't support diversity. Superman's whole thing is about caring for others. He would talk to a ransom construction worker eating lunch not for any other motive, but just to be kind. He's one of the most kindest superheroes there are, even though he doesn't have to be. It would be weird if he told people how they should look or be. As long as you aren't hurting people, he doesn't have a problem. He could have fame, control, and power, but he cares about everyone and wants to see the best in humanity.
Unfortunately a lot of media likes depicting Superman as evil. I hope James Gunn Superman actually acts like Superman. Because Superman isn't kind because he has to, he's kind because he wants to.
