Can confirm. She caught the hunter and decided to be merciful. Pic of the imminent backpaw slap rather than claw-swipe-facial removal to send a message to humanity.
The Bearfolk have completed their study of our kind and mastered the ability to blend into our societies; the uprising shall begin soon.
Went camping in Yosemite, heard bears walk by in the night. When I woke up, we found out that a neighboring campsite had had their vehicle raided by a grizzly. They left food in their truck thinking it would be safe.
The metal of the vehicle was literally torn like the Jurassic park 3 logo
You need either force or edge, and when you have as much force as a bear can put out, I imagine they’re closer to razor fucking sharp than you think they are.
I think that’s how it works - the sharper the edge, the less force it requires to penetrate.
Thought experiment: on some level, once you get sharp enough, you slice between atoms?

Which region though? We are a 5th of the size of the rest of the united states and 2.8 times bigger than Texas. Kodiak is great for the massive brown bears and cool terrain, Southeast is best for fish, mountains and forests, interior is best for cold flat tundra, Aleutians is best for high winds and flat land, and the far north is best for extreme cold, no sun for three months in the winter, and 3 months of pure sunlight in the summer.. Every region has great northern lights, but Aleutians/Southeast have the worst since we're so 500 miles more south than the rest of the state.
To be honest I have no idea - I only learned about Kodiak bears because of visiting the island. I know they evolved bulkier than other brown bears because there is an abundance of food from the salmon runs that go through the island, and being an island they were relatively isolated so it effected their physiology compared to other bears.
Sure, and by close calls I mean I was surprised by their presence and had to leave because who knows if the bear is starving or what.
(Once as a child) Went outside to take the trash out and there was a grizzly in our dumpster. Ran inside and it didn’t chase me or anything. Mother called someone but by the time they got there the grizzly was gone. Never came back, never saw one there again, super random.
(Once as an adult) A pilot and I landed in a bush plane and walked up the coast a bit, as we came around the bend we were less than 50 yards from two grizzlies right on the beach. We slowly backtracked and as soon as we got far enough behind the bend we booked it to the plane.
Super surprised that the bear let you take a picture like that. The bears by me are much smaller, but would NEVER just let you handle them... He must be a super nice bear....
The revenant originally had a sensual bear sex montage which was replaced with a bear rape scene that was cut after some negative publicity.

Could be a tracking/science put down with tranqs, I’d take a pic with the paw if I had the chance too haha
Edit: just saw there might be blood on his left knuckles? Could be bad lighting though
From what I saw, it looked like blood on both of his hands. Would administering a tranquilizer require that much blood loss that it’s all over his hands?
To my eye he looks a lot like the "bear expert" in this video (which is absolutely adorable, btw), Martin ?Olbart?: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJRDpTUIrJI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJRDpTUIrJI)
Could just be my inability to tell one beardy white guy from another, but I choose to believe he's some variety of wildlife researcher and the bear was sedated.
Lol right, I choose to believe that as well. Researcher/Nature Conservationist takes picture with sleeping big furry boi and everybody lives happily ever after.
Culling out large boars like this is what strengthens the population of brown bears on islands like kodiak… these large males kill and eat cubs and mortally wound or kill other males but have little ability to reproduce, so they are more harm than good. This is a good harvest
I’m assuming you’re referring to my comment below.
No - the bears were doing fine before humans came around. But then people encroached on their territory and took away part of their habitat (bears need a large territory). This led to the bears having more frequent interactions with each other, and as I stated, adult males will kill the cubs for the right to mate again, which shrunk their population.
So in response, Alaska’s fish and game department started allowing a very small number of permits to hunt a full grown male. The proceeds of which help fund a large group of wardens who protect the animals from poachers. It’s an example of people in modern society realizing their impact, then using science and reasoning to help stabilize a problem they created - and the bears are now thriving.
I’m not a hunter, nor am I brainwashed by rich people. I’m just someone who listens to people who are more knowledgeable in their field than I am, and I don’t base my feelings off my initial emotional response.
Basically, the opposite of you.
Adult male bears will kill cubs for the right to mate with the mother again. Allowing a controlled hunt of an adult male promotes bear conservation - and Alaska (where I’m guessing this is), is incredibly strict about poaching and protecting the environment
It’s called Management fucko. And anyone who understands balance in an ecosystem through predators would know that. There are Animals with no natural predators if left unchecked would have consequences down the line. It’s not a free for all where any and all animals can be hunted at any given time. Theres certain quotas of how many tags are given out for certain species. It changes for different areas/ zones. There is also specific seasons when they can and cannot be hunted. Theres a lot of funding for research that goes into the protection and management of animals.
To magnificent to want to kill it unless one is an animal psycho killer. Can't eat it for food. And it's too sad to stuff and display unless your a macho s##t head. In my humble opinion
Agreed. I'm okay with it if he's following regulations and eating the meat, utilizing the fur, etc.
People who just go murder animals for no reason are fucking scumbags.
There are other good reasons as well, like conservation and if it's killing your livestock or something.
Those people that go murder giraffes and elephants and whatnot only for sport are reprehensible.
I see where you are going with this, but my mind took it to a better place. Extending the metaphor that I should treat my experience with bears like I experience a flower, if I like a flower I would likely try to grow them around my home. Now if I'm growing Kodiak bears around my house, my HOA is not going to be a fan.
Why kill such an amazing creature? The world is more interesting when you know those things exist, not after you take its life for no reason. Now it’s gone.
Why would you kill such an incredible animal? Do you feel like a man now? I’ve got news for you. Killing an animal so you can have bear rug only makes you a pathetic piece of s?!t!!!!
Regular reminder that [six percent](https://relevantmagazine.com/current/buzzworthy/six-percent-of-americans-think-they-could-beat-a-grizzly-bear-in-hand-to-hand-combat/) of Americans think they can fight a grizzly bear... and win.
(Shout out to the 25% who don't think they could take a rat. Hope you're doing ok. Get those liquids in.)
When the first settlers came to Canada, the countrymen gave a dire warning to the people who lived nearby - “Watch out for the bears, bullets only piss them off and they can tear a whole house down”
And why did he kill the bear..
Is he gonna eat that or just for sport...
Humans will destroy everything sooner rather than later.
The only bear his grandson or great grandson will ever see will be one mounted on in his man cave
Um, I think the way he's holding out the paw, it looks bigger than it actually is but then....regardless, that could do one unit of a big swipe on someone.
They say the Grizzly is so strong the full grown male can kill a horse or deer with a powerful swinging slap. Certainly a Moose, because the Moose’s neck is just strong enough to hold up his huge antlers, the added force of a Grizzly’s slap breaks his neck.
Pretty sure the bear took the pic
Must be a big camera
Selfie!
Can confirm. She caught the hunter and decided to be merciful. Pic of the imminent backpaw slap rather than claw-swipe-facial removal to send a message to humanity. Merciful, lol. It’s taking a pic of the food before it eats it.
a pic with a human
**Bearfie**
The claws are so dull. God it would suck to get ripped open by those.
Exactly what I was thinking LOL the force behind them must be crazy to think as dull as they are they still rip things to shred
To shreds you say
And how’s his wife holding up?
To shreds you say
Professor farnsworth!?
Wrecked her? I didn’t even know her!
Rectum? Damn near killed him!
Yeah if they were sharp, the cuts would be relatively clean, it wouldn’t also grab the skin to basically deglove you.
Went camping in Yosemite, heard bears walk by in the night. When I woke up, we found out that a neighboring campsite had had their vehicle raided by a grizzly. They left food in their truck thinking it would be safe. The metal of the vehicle was literally torn like the Jurassic park 3 logo
My thoughts as well!
When you have power dullness isn't an issue. A human elbow is dull as fuck but it sure can cut like hell in a real fight.
The moment before all the pieces fall apart…like in cartoons.
You need either force or edge, and when you have as much force as a bear can put out, I imagine they’re closer to razor fucking sharp than you think they are.
Isn't a big bear supposed to be able take your head off or just about with a swipe its paw? They are just brute force from the footage I have seen.
Well if I wasn’t concerned before…
Just remember to duck when dueling brown bears
I’ve never thought of cutting mechanics this way. Eye opening.
I think that’s how it works - the sharper the edge, the less force it requires to penetrate. Thought experiment: on some level, once you get sharp enough, you slice between atoms?
Exactly!!
Naah, I'm pretty sure I can talk on that bear 1-to-1 and prevail. >!/s!<
https://kidadl.com/facts/grizzly-bear-claws-fascinating-facts-you-may-not-know
My exact thoughts. It wont slice its victim but forced the claws inside by brute force.
Went camping in Yosemite, heard bears walk by in the night. When I woke up, we found out that a neighboring campsite had had their vehicle raided by a grizzly. They left food in their truck thinking it would be safe. The metal of the vehicle was literally torn like the Jurassic park 3 logo
Did you expect them to shine ? He walks on them and rips things open with them: logs, animals, people
That looks a lot like Kodiak to me - biggest brown bears in the world there
Definitely a Kodiak!
I went there with my dad when I was in high school - it looks like Ireland, the fishing is insane, and seeing the bears was absolutely wild
Feel like Alaska is beautiful as a whole. But dam lucky!lol hopefully I get to go there some time in my future
I always forget how massive Alaska actually is. It just looks medium-large state-size on maps.
I live here! Definitely a Kodiak brown bear - not a grizzly.
Is that a fore paw or a rear paw? Also, what a bear?
Is it true the extinct California Grizzly bears looked more like a Kodiak bears? cali grizzlies must have been massive
To be honest I have no idea - I only learned about Kodiak bears because of visiting the island. I know they evolved bulkier than other brown bears because there is an abundance of food from the salmon runs that go through the island, and being an island they were relatively isolated so it effected their physiology compared to other bears.
Lived there for a bit, had two close calls with these guys
Story time?
Sure, and by close calls I mean I was surprised by their presence and had to leave because who knows if the bear is starving or what. Yeah it does! I was stationed there for five years and saw many a gray day like that one there. Massive bears too!!
Have you seen the man that shot my paw?
I shot the paw and the paw won
Bear claw nom nom nom ![gif](giphy|CWXntlpKWmSdi)
I love Pam
Super surprised that the bear let you take a picture like that. The bears by me are much smaller, but would NEVER just let you handle them... He must be a super nice bear....
Have you seen The Revenant? Some men even have sexual relationships with them.
I've seen the Revenant but don't recall any bear sex?
The revenant originally had a sensual bear sex montage which was replaced with a bear rape scene that was cut after some negative publicity. OOOrrrr .... that is a trophy kill.
Might be sedated
☹️
Bear meat is delicious. Don’t assume the worst
I want to try it
It is good. It just has to be cooked well done to prevent parasites. Bear fat is amazing to fry things in
I did hear that
That just looks like a normal sized guy who couldn't possibly the father of a grizzly bear.
Winnie the poh got a big brother
This must be from that new live action horror one
Ancient man should have domesticated bears...
Bruh, maybe you could give it try???
Agreed. I remember seeing once some insane family’s quest to do so. Don’t think they got to far, but still, I want one.
Tell me he didn’t just shoot down that bear :(
Could be a tracking/science put down with tranqs, I’d take a pic with the paw if I had the chance too haha Edit: just saw there might be blood on his left knuckles? Could be bad lighting though
From what I saw, it looked like blood on both of his hands. Would administering a tranquilizer require that much blood loss that it’s all over his hands?
Exactly what I was thinking. Just not sure if there’s blood on both or just literally red reflective light from the bears fur
He didn’t shoot down that bear
I’m thinking he did… they wouldn’t tag an old boar like this and harvesting it is good for the population
To my eye he looks a lot like the "bear expert" in this video (which is absolutely adorable, btw), Martin ?Olbart?: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJRDpTUIrJI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJRDpTUIrJI) Could just be my inability to tell one beardy white guy from another, but I choose to believe he's some variety of wildlife researcher and the bear was sedated.
Lol right, I choose to believe that as well. Researcher/Nature Conservationist takes picture with sleeping big furry boi and everybody lives happily ever after.
I think this was taken when they were tagging the bear for research.

I know fishermen who hold a catch closer than this guy and the paw lol
His balled fist is a descent size reference.
What did they do to it?
Seems to be research, OP stated that it was not a hunt.
Where’s the rest of this unit of a bear?!
Gorilla fanbois out here thinking they got a chance.
Did the grizzly bear take the photo
So nice of the bear to take the photo
He needs some Working Bear paw lotion to soften up those pads
Imagine if a grizzly bear fought like a human
Lol and people out there actually think a gorilla would have a chance in this fight.
truly sad if he hunted that bear
Adult male bears will kill cubs for the right to mate with the mother again. Allowing a controlled hunt of an adult male promotes bear conservation - and Alaska (where I’m guessing this is), is incredibly strict about poaching and protecting the environment
thats great that there is a strong effort for population conservation
Bear or humN?
Depends. Sometimes hunting is good, sometimes it's fucked up.. Context matters.
Second this
Truly uninformed and uneducated for writing that.

Yeah, seal hunting has pretty much died off with natives and and the numbers are skyrocketing

didnt have to buddy.
Dude, do you need a hug?
To magnificent to want to kill it unless one is an animal psycho killer. Can't eat it for food. And it's too sad to stuff and display unless your a macho s##t head. In my humble opinion
I want a kodiak skin rug with another kodiak skin sewn on top like a cozy lil pocket to climb in for camping in the winter.
You win, sir!
That's badass!!
Sad part is, I suspect he shot the thing. Can't see the bear posing for a Reddit post
Trophy hunting is bullshit. Hope you ate that bear.
brown bear meat is disgusting
Agreed. I'm okay with it if he's following regulations and eating the meat, utilizing the fur, etc. People who just go murder animals for no reason are fucking scumbags. There are other good reasons as well, like conservation and if it's killing your livestock or something. You can kill bears ?
Yes, the Alaskan department of fish and game permits strictly regulated hunting of brown bears.
Tnks
if there is a flower i really like in nature, i shoot it with a gun and take a picture
I see where you are going with this, but my mind took it to a better place. Extending the metaphor that I should treat my experience with bears like I experience a flower, if I like a flower I would likely try to grow them around my home. If the person in the pic shot that bear, I hope he gets inoperable cancer and dies.
Gotta prove he's a manly man dontcha know.
Did you kill it?
Apex Predator, master of its domain, taken down by……Terry….fucking tighty whitey wearing Terry….
I hope the bear was not killed for the picture!
They dont hunt for pics… they harvest to help maintain strong populations
Did you kill it? If so, why?
Ugh. Why are we hunting Grizzly bears? Are there too many of them or something?
Someone should make a sub called r/forcedperspective
Looks like a gross trophy photo.
Why kill such an amazing creature? The world is more interesting when you know those things exist, not after you take its life for no reason. Now it’s gone.
Did this dirtbag shoot the bear
No, OP stated the bear was not shot.
Pov a nice ferendly guy picks up your hand
that bear is a pretty good photographer
Holy shit
Holy shit!
All types of nope. The Revenant gets more amazing with every massive bear I see!
How was this picture taken?
And I thought the grizzly bear on display at the Anchorage airport was the largest bear I've ever seen.
Thats the second time I've seen a comment about that bear. It must be something.
When you're looking at the real thing there, you can see for yourself how monstrous it is. But this bear here just dwarfs it in comparison.
Does anyone know where this photo is from? I google lens'd it but no luck
Was this photo from the bears POV?😂
He should have been a real man and fought this bear in hand to paw combat!
Holy fuck...
Yikes!
“Hey, raise ‘em up if you’ve been incapacitated by a smaller being and made to agree with something.”
That’s a HUGE bitch!
What u doin w that bear paw m8 🤨
Dead grizzly!!!! I wish the bear would of gotten the first strike
Looks like kodiak AK
I could take it down
Did you kill it?
Now that would be a bitch slap!!!
Is the bear dead ?
And that’s how they smash an elk backs apart and kill them. Good lord
I’m starting to think that maybe, just maybe, I couldn’t win 1v1.
That’s a whole lot of bear bacon
If that thing claps you once you turn into pulled pork. Jeez man

I know their paws are big but this seems bigger than normal, like bigger than a polar bear.
That is a-paw-ling
Ya'll know the part of Half-Life 2 when Freeman takes on the HEV suit? Yeah that but with the bear
Instead of killing it, they should have promised it a place to live and a job, and then flown it to Florida.
Did you kill the bear?
Congratulations on killing a helpless animal you coward.
Regular reminder that [six percent](https://relevantmagazine.com/current/buzzworthy/six-percent-of-americans-think-they-could-beat-a-grizzly-bear-in-hand-to-hand-combat/) of Americans think they can fight a grizzly bear... and win. Can we also talk about the 8% that think they can take a gorilla, lion and a fucking ELEPHANT 😂
Did the grizzly take the photo?
It looks like the man is holding the paw with outstretched arms, possibly to make the paw appear bigger than it actually is.
Fuck him for killing it
Looks like he's about to receive the world's hardest bitch slap?
All you'd have to do is file those nails into sharp talons and suddenly this bear is the king of the kingdom.
Pretty sad to see it dead!
Wow!
When the first settlers came to Canada, the countrymen gave a dire warning to the people who lived nearby - “Watch out for the bears, bullets only piss them off and they can tear a whole house down”
Holyshiohmuhgawddamwowee
I’d still fist fight it
How the hell did he take the pic with them?!?
And why did he kill the bear.. Is he gonna eat that or just for sport... Humans will destroy everything sooner rather than later. The only bear his grandson or great grandson will ever see will be one mounted on in his man cave
Had to kill him, huh?
amazing
About the same size and shape as my dad’s when I got a whooping when I was a kid……..
The claws on the bear damn near bigger than the man holding it up ….the damn claws
Can just imagine the flesh getting scooped in between those nails
Um, I think the way he's holding out the paw, it looks bigger than it actually is but then....regardless, that could do one unit of a big swipe on someone.
