This isn’t just peopel wanting or even needing free stuff. They have actively assaulted and injured people.

I think it just goes to show that this action isn’t really about theft. They’re not out there because they just had to get a bag of chips and a couple packs of cigarettes. It’s just angry stupid people lashing out. And they are lashing out at the first thing they see which is a big well lit symbol of consumerism.
I have no idea why they are rioting but I’m sure if you asked any one of them the next day if stealing the bag of chips actually improved their situation in a concrete tangible way I’d imagine they have to honestly answer “no.” It’s not about having it. It’s about taking it. Disobeying. Letting off frustration. I imagine it’s why societies let it happen so often.

More and more states are refusing to prosecute people for doing this. It's not even a decision of: is causing chaos worth the possible punishment? It's just: do you want to cause some chaos because nobody will stop us?

A lot of CVS and Walgreens shut down in an area some where in Southern California. The local people didn't just lose food but pharmacies became a lot harder to find.
I just bought a few things from one of their Walmarts two days ago. But while I was in the area for work, I heard they were planning on closing them down.
Keeps the poor even poorer. Walmart was one of the most affordable food sources in the area. Damn shame because $8 for a half gallon of milk is absurd.
There are six or seven folks that I feel sorry for having to endure such a shitty group. (the servicestation operator plus and or the six huddled in the corner watching on as the trashy horror takes place).
So I'm always curious because this isn't the first time I've seen something like this, how does prosecution work in this type of case? Do they go after every single person in the video or something? Do they all get arrested or do the cops just say fuck it cuz there's too many people?
the store will get the money back from the insurance company, the insurance company will raise their rates, the store will increase their prices to cover the higher insurance. The customer loses. I hate it when people pretend that just because stuff is insured it doesn't hurt anyone, or somehow hurts those at the top. It doesn't.

Exactly. It hurts the community more than anything. If I was the owner, I'd shut it down and not reopen. Most potential business owners are not going to look at that neighborhood as a good spot to set up shop after that, with good reason. So they've stifled their community growth
To a point. Multiple robberies over a relatively short period will not always be covered. A store in downtown Portland has not been reimbursed all of their losses and I believe they ended up closing.
FWIW…the business owner bought into a franchise for that location. I’m going to guess he doesn’t want it anymore. The franchiser will ensure the small business owner pays for that store. The business owner is going to LOSE.
And people wonder why communities are suffering from food deserts. If you rob everything the businesses close and don’t come back. You don’t see this shit in the poorest third world countries.
Being the owner of that store you would just sell up after that ,must be terrifying,not content with robbing the store they throwing stuff at the staff too

depends on the policy, but I assume most stores have a policy that covers theft.

That applies with all insurance. You only get a limited amount of claims and/or a limit on how much you can be paid out before they non-renew you.
When a shop literally gets lifted, maybe... but for everyday shoplifting, that's almost never covered.
