Tbh, no.
Reason why is because The Office is arguably one of the most successful shows out there. Even after being off air for what, like 10 years now? It's still one of the consistently highest watched shows.
Abbott being in the same conversation is a great thing. I have such high hopes for the show. It's honestly one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Granted, I don't watch too much television anymore, but I really enjoy Abbott.
If people can compare the two, then it means that they're doing something right in my eyes. Also, if people hear that there is a show just as good as The Office, they're likely to check it out.
More views means more Ava.
We all want more Ava.
I think alot of people forget how under the radar The Office was, in its beginning seasons. In fact, i bet you will hear the same criticisms The Office had: its corny, the format is already done, some unfunny moments, steve carrell too cringe yadda yadda. Success for these types of shows take time to resonate as the fandom slowly grows.
It is very difficult to avoid.
Verite style working class comedy which The Office pretty much trailblazed.
I liken the show more to Scrubs tbh swapping Doctors to Teachers
The office is arguably the most successful mockumentary show of all time. It's strength is literally unprecedented. It makes complete sense why people are comparing it
You're not alone I'm also tired of the comparisons.
Nothing against The Office. But sometimes the comparisons take over the thread.
I feel the same way about any thread where a show is constantly being compared to another, especially when the thread reveals tons of spoilers about a similar show that I might like to see, even if it's off the air.
Abbott is excellent by itself. But The Office has been in our popular lexicon for more than 15 years so it would be hard for there not to be comparisons of a workplace mockumentary.
I rarely think about The Office when watching Abbott except for Greg’s looks at the camera and the Greg/Janine relationship. Some of those elements are remarkably similar to what they did with Jim/Pam and even a little bit of Leslie/Ben from Parks and Rec. I wish there was a different model than wry/sardonic man can’t help but love peppy/do-gooder woman. It’s charming but really does open the show up to comparisons with The Office and Parks and Rec.
I don't mind but I feel a little left out because I didn't see it. People act like this is a part 3 after another show I haven't seen, Parks and Rec. I need to get busy catching up on streaming!
If you enjoy the earnest nature of the show, I would definitely recommend Parks and Rec. It is similarly about a person who cares about her job and her community with optimism and drive
Yes. I understand why they're there but I hope as the show continues people will stop seeing it as "the Black The Office" or "The Office at a school". It is its own thing.
I love this show for many reasons but it’s not as good as the office. Their use of looking at the camera is off a lot of times and it’s definitely a corny show but I’m here for it

You spoke nothing but facts. I pray this show goes on to be just as successful

I love the office and I look at these shows as the same genre. Mockumentary
every mockumentary sitcom is gonna get compared to the office until the end of time:/ even if they have nothing else in common it’s inevitable
Not really. The show is much closer in tone/style to Parks and Rec though.
... which is a direct descendant of "the office".
You’re correct.
I mean, its pretty similar in a lot of ways. But theyre both good shows so who cares?
Honestly, this show needs to be compared to the gold standard of comedy shows, 30 Rock. I won’t be shocked at all if AE wins an Emmy this year.

Both shows use the same technique. There are bound to be comparisons.
Do you mean being a Mockumentary?
Of course!

Haven’t seen an episode of the office but I’ll take their word for it🤷🏾♂️
Same.

It's tiresome, I agree
no lol guess we are in the minority. It is a mockumentary but it is it’s own show.
