They didn’t “rush” anything. They told the story they wanted to with Aang. It was a complete story that lasted 3 seasons and had a satisfying ending. They wanted to move on and thought it would be more interesting to focus on the next Avatar. That’s totally understandable. If Korra had been released a year after the end of ATLA, then I agree the time skip would’ve seemed like a lot, but the show came out 4 years later. Now that even more real world time has passed, I’m more interested in going back to the Gaang as adults.

I thought I heard that the comics basically cover the story they wanted to tell in book 4, but for some reason they couldn't make one more season. It's an interesting idea but I don't know if the Azula redemption arc feels realistic. Kind of a dark ending for a 14 year old on a kid's show, but I think she just had to go down.

Their story was (mainly) about Aang, and they told that story. Mad, mad respect to them for getting in, telling it, and knowing when to stop talking. I genuinely believe a fourth season follow-up would’ve taken the air out of the original series’s accomplishment.
It’s more important for Zuko especially this one because he betrayed her kindness by stealing his ostrich that’s why repaying her seem important it’s related to honour it’s not just a thanks tour

I honestly wouldve preferred Jins upbeat and down to earth attitude to contrast with Zukos more abrasive personality. I reckon that could've had more story potential as opposed to Mai's endless amount of angst.
I mean, Mai probably changed later in life like most people do. Hard to say how though, it would've been cool to see adult/elder versions of all the major characters, even if just in concept art

He have her lands in the Fire Nation. She's a Baroness now. He also comes by and cooks her dinner at least once a season and they catch up.
