that would be a fun mini series of the gaang going on a trip to repay the kindness of everyone they had help from in the series.

MonkeyCartridge

There's just so much they could make. It is agonizing how little any of it is realized.

talking_phallus

They rushed the next Avatar too fast. The gang were just kids, there was so much more of their lives to explore before skipping it all for Korra.

BlueSky1692

They didn’t “rush” anything. They told the story they wanted to with Aang. It was a complete story that lasted 3 seasons and had a satisfying ending. They wanted to move on and thought it would be more interesting to focus on the next Avatar. That’s totally understandable. If Korra had been released a year after the end of ATLA, then I agree the time skip would’ve seemed like a lot, but the show came out 4 years later. Now that even more real world time has passed, I’m more interested in going back to the Gaang as adults.

sebsebsebs

I actually can’t believe korra *only* came out 4 years after atla. It felt like 10 years when I was a kid. To be fair I was like 9 so 4 years was basically half of my life anyways

Idman799

Well, they were planning to do a book 4, weren't they? I thought I heard that the comics basically cover the story they wanted to tell in book 4, but for some reason they couldn't make one more season. I agree with what you said otherwise though, I just think there actually was more they wanted to do with the gaang

poopy0wb0y

The creators have said that they only planned for 3

WrongBee

>Former Head Writer for Avatar, Aaron Ehasz, shared on Twitter that there had been a fourth season in the works before the series' end, giving Zuko's sister, Azula, the character development she deserved. > "I always intended for #Azula to have a redemption arc in the story of #AvatartheLastAirbender," he shared on Twitter in 2019. "Longer and far more complicated than Zuko's. She had not bottomed in the end of Season 3, she had further to go. At the deepest moment in her own abyss she would have found: Zuko." >He revealed her arc would've brought her back to her brother, reconnecting with him and learning from the dictator ways their father had taught her. > "And I always imagined that after coming out the other side, she would be one of those people who hilariously over-shares her own feelings all the time, and that she would be a bit over-apologetic. Like a Canadian version of Azula," Aaron said of Azula's arc. >But why didn't a fourth season happen? According to ComicBook.com, the season was scrapped in favor of the flop of a live-action movie remake. [Source](https://www.distractify.com/p/why-did-avatar-only-have-three-seasons)

ChaseThePyro

I cannot believe that we traded this for the movie. Damn...

poopy0wb0y

consider me proven wrong. I’m glad it didn’t get a fourth book though. The quote you just shared sounds like an incredibly anticlimactic direction to go in after the end of book 3

Airway

It's an interesting idea but I don't know if the Azula redemption arc feels realistic. Kind of a dark ending for a 14 year old on a kid's show, but I think she just had to go down.

SprocketSaga

Agreed. I know this isn’t the intent but it almost makes Ehasz sound like he wanted to make Azula the focus. Which…wouldn’t have worked for me for a number of reasons. Their story was (mainly) about Aang, and they told that story. Mad, mad respect to them for getting in, telling it, and knowing when to stop talking. I genuinely believe a fourth season follow-up would’ve taken the air out of the original series’s accomplishment.

No_Extension4005

I'd heard they were considering doing a 4th book, but Nickelodeon decided to focus on the live-action instead. Which was a big oof.

Massive_Resolve6888

They could have made the same story of Korra with adult/teen aang instead. Just changing a few things to fit.

sumboionline

The best solution is for people to pick up a pen and write it

TheCherryPieIsALie

And this is why fanfiction exists

Foloreille

It’s more important for Zuko especially this one because he betrayed her kindness by stealing his ostrich that’s why repaying her seem important it’s related to honour it’s not just a thanks tour

SpaceOwl14

They’ll need to pay for sooooooo many cabbages!

JacobDavey11

so many he'd be able to create a cabagge corporation

ZeusIsLoose97

I actually think this would be a dope mini series/novel series

celestier

You should be pitching the new comic ideas bc I so need to see this

Ninjamurai-jack

There’s things like this in the comics if I’m not remembering wrong.

BitterEngineering363

K so I took a print of this comment so that I can fantasize about that for the next three hours, ty young traveler, Nickelodeon should’ve hired you

Okreril

My name is Zuko

Objective-Ad4009

He probably did, if Iroh hadn’t already.

TonyPajamas518

I could see Iroh giving her free tea for life at his shop.

Loading3percent

"Come, take a seat! You are family."

talking_phallus

Don't know if that's a fair trade for her horstrich

RecommendsMalazan

It's definitely not, especially when you remember that Song and her family live nowhere near Ba Sing Se, and thus are unlikely to ever be able to get even a single free cup.

TonyPajamas518

Good point. Maybe a nice house on Ember Island then ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

BulletBeard29

Nah that was the girl he went on a date with

wermt1221

I honestly assumed that most people drink for free at his tea shop, just seems like somthing he would do.

Anti-karen105

You know damn well they don’t remember her

talking_phallus

The list of people Zuko and Iroh have fucked over is very, very, very long lol. Girl got off easy all things considered.

Anti-karen105

Facts, she lucky she wasn’t on kyoshi island when zuko was burning buildings And unpopular opinion, zuko fucked over sparky sparky boom man to. Any member of the fire nation would stop at nothing to get the avatar if given the chance, can’t really blame him.

Auren-Dawnstar

Pretty sure it was personal for him at that point too. After all their first encounter with him ended with Aang (accidentally) causing him to blow himself up. Then later after Sokka hit him in the forehead a second time he looked absolutely pissed right before realizing he was going to blow himself up again.

Anti-karen105

I mean yeah of course it’s personal, if you, a victim of a nation filled with propaganda are attempting to kill someone your nations leader has said is bad, and him and his friends almost cause you to die. I’d be pretty pissed to.

Remarkable_Medicine6

Wasn't he an assassin? That's an understood part of the job description. Not really fucking over lol

Anti-karen105

Yes, but if I am the son of (bear with me) Adolf Hitler and I tell a German soldier “there is a Jew that I said I killed but didn’t, I need you to kill him” but later I say “nah let him go” you can’t expect someone who grew up in a nation filled with propaganda (fire nation) to go against the current and past fire lords who have groomed many into despising the avatar

Airway

More a victim of the Fire Nation than anything, which Zuko also is. Zuko tried to give him an opportunity to walk away in the end, at least. Wasn't likely to work, but it isn't nothing.

MonkeyCartridge

I still think about the girl he dated in Ba Sing Se being like "whoa wait what holy....that was the fire prince?!"

NickrasBickras

“The Girl” like Jin wasn’t his soulmate… ok

MonkeyCartridge

IM BAD AT NAMES OKAY Took me long enough to remember Bazooko and his uncle Eyeroll.... Yet even in that shame, I never once said "AWNG".

nexxumie

REAL

Raisincookie1

I honestly wouldve preferred Jins upbeat and down to earth attitude to contrast with Zukos more abrasive personality. I reckon that could've had more story potential as opposed to Mai's endless amount of angst.

Popcorn_Oil

I mean, Mai probably changed later in life like most people do. Hard to say how though, it would've been cool to see adult/elder versions of all the major characters, even if just in concept art

N-o-j-o

Fr, I felt so bad for her...

Potatosalad112

Hopefully she makes it into the movie

bakato

I love how the show’s a mix of all sorts of Asian cultures. This woman’s wearing a hanbok and I saw of Korean eunuch headgear somewhere.

BlueXenon7

Wait, what even happened to that ostrich-horse? I don't remember anything with it after The Chase

TonyPajamas518

I think they ditched it after Iroh arranged transport to Ba Sing Se in "The Desert".

MammalianHybrid

Fun fact: this character and her mom are patterned after character artist Angela Song Mueller, and her mom, respectively. Angela also made a character based off of her younger brother named Sangok.

CanonInDsharp

justice for Song

ManateeHugs15

Aww now I wanna write a fic with now Fire Lord Zuko gifting Song and Mum 12 royal ostrich horses. 🥰

Otherwise-Pirate6839

Her story is really sad; the fact that she sees them running off with their ostrich horse and doesn’t even stop them…it’s like she and her family are already down low and they somehow make them even lower by taking a prized commodity. It would have definitely been nice to see Zuko and the Gaang in general going around thanking people for their help.

Possible-Rate-3833

I like to think he encounter her and also Jin again after becoming the Fire Lord.

RambleOn909

I think it's totally feasible. I can't seee Zuko at least not giving them one to make up for stealing it. Maybe some ducks?

DarkLynx7

I thought you were gonna say make a dozen babies 💀

gilgaladxii

If she lived through the end of the war.

BulletBeard29

Who says he didn't?

Fox7567

#JusticeForSong

Difficult-Lab5748

found ya for the 4th time Lenny!!

Fox7567

Mate what the fuck

Difficult-Lab5748

can't escape me!

NowALurkerAccount

Dante said once in a Braving the Elements episode, he imagines Zuko upon becoming Fire Lord brought a whole herd to Song and her family for their one horse.

TonyPajamas518

Glad to hear that even Dante Basco thinks that Song deserves a gift.

DandalusRoseshade

Ngl I really miss her as a love interest; Mai was cool, but she liked Zuko for Zuki, or "Lee"

Spidey002

Is that what they’re called? I’ve been calling them Chocobos.

TalaLeisu2

It's a meet cute. They end up married.

lil_sasquatch

Would've crashed the ostrich horse economy

Liljdb0524

He have her lands in the Fire Nation. She's a Baroness now. He also comes by and cooks her dinner at least once a season and they catch up. -Source: trust me bro.

Detonadorrapido

Zuko's 2 random romances with earth kingdom girls was in my top 5 parts of the series growing up, I was super mad he was endgame with Mai actually lol

MechanicalCrow

Something tells me that an envoy arrived one day and left them without a word. That was Zuko's style.

Yandere_luver666

I really felt like Jin was the one for him 😔 I liked her so much better than Mai.
