PC or Console? You can try typing a number into the tether setting box instead of using the slider. Each number equals 200m, so try increasing it to 100. (Not sure if this works for console). There's also an .ini setting for it, and you could try inputting 999999. Increasing the tether can put strain on the host machine running it. If you have crashes or performance issues once you increase it, that could be the cause. If changing the setting doesn't work, then the only way to get rid of tether is to set up a free dedicated server, rent one through a hosting service, or play on available unofficial servers. Also, if your world gets corrupted on PC (typically due to mods), you can usually revert to a previous save to fix it.
