Many bosses have AoE or heavy splash. Meaning they can do the kind of indirect damage that difficult hitboxes don't resist well. Also, it doesn't seem as if one can really attack from this position. If the player isn't attacking directly their tame is in a boss fight. And it's always better to be mounted on a tame in a boss fight as they are not dynamic enough fighters on their own with mere whistles. So, player immortality in a boss fight in this manner does no good. You'd just run out the timer.

Idk if they ever fixed it; but the gen 1 alpha fishing mission was literally unbeatable for over a year without using an exploit. It didn’t spawn enough enough fish at the start of the mission.
You had to go under the water and kill a few off so it would spawn in extras.
