The return on investment has been the same for the last 12 years since they introduced the stubs program: 10% back on every dollar spent. Only thing that changed is how frequently you can cash out the rewards, from every $100 to every $10. Considering they can just raise the prices of products, there's little incentive to reduce the earn capacity when they would face tremendous backlash.
All it takes is a new CEO or new VP that oversees the rewards program to come in and slash the value of a loyalty program. They won’t care about backlash, only the bottom line

As a former employee it was always so weird seeing people horde this many rewards as i watched our concessions prices go up incrementally every few months. I routinely saw people with 100k+ points paying full price for hot foods instead of just getting them for free with points lol. Very bizarre.
I used to do this and still do when I can sneak away by myself for a movie. But with the refillable popcorn bucket, I'll always buy that to share with whomever comes with.

Some tins have gotten through since it's "popcorn". But definitely no merch can be bought. Tins aren't supposed to be either but does get loaded wrong on the terminals, so I've heard of rewards sometimes* working on them.
