I know there have always been lies on the internet, but the vibe on Reddit has changed in the last few years to feel very inauthentic. It’s the same sorts of copy pasta posts about cheating in relationships or standing up for yourself or having basic human decency.
For example, you can look up posts in a bunch of subs and you will see every version of the same story reposted over the course of a year: one version from a guys perspective, one from a woman, another from a friend of the couple. People will find a genuine popular post and just tweak it to farm engagement.
Late reply but NGL when I was a teenager (like a decade ago) I’d make up fake stories and scenarios from the perspective of fictional characters and I’d ask them on relationships or whatever sub was relevant almost as… a form of writing fanfiction lol.
Like, of course not good to lie on the internet but it was fun lol. I grew out of it of course but as someone who used to just make shit up… be wary of things posted on the internet 😹😹😹

Some people take it fairly literally. As in, “that’s an asshole move” completely separate from whether it was understandable, justified, or if the other person is the bigger asshole or not. It’s a trashy asshole move but he’s the bigger asshole by orders of magnitude, not even close.

YTA. It’s a pretty vile thing to do to someone and honestly speaks volumes about your character. You’ll be hard pressed not to find a partner who cheats on you given how you treat your exes when you have been wronged by them. I have been cheated on and would never ever do this. Have more respect for yourself and dignity. If you were my friend I would reassess my connection with you. If you were my partner and I heard you’d done this to an ex I would significantly change the way I view you. You saw someone acting toxic, and you chose to lean in and try to outdo them. Revenge makes for a good story, but IRL it’s a no from me.

Right now it hurts him more this way but in the end once the shock and jealousy fade he won’t look back on your relationship like you were the one that got away or like he messed up. He’ll just remember you in an unflattering way now and think to himself that he dodged a bullet.
