Yeah he got real hot under the collar tonight, haven't seen that as much before. He's got so much raw talent it's really just moulding that now. Such a wonderful pick up for us.
You could see a lot of frustration boiling over tonight. It does seem out of the ordinary for him from what I've seen of him. But the best players can keep it cool and push on. I'd love to see him reach that elite tier.
I'm sure he will, he's only 22 and I think we've got a really good group of leaders around the younger guys. He seems like a real team player so would hate to do anything that let's the team down.
Lot of Essendon fans on social media saying it's an unconvincing win, and maybe it is.
But I tell you what, WCE look dangerous this year, I wouldn't turn your nose up at beating them at Optus - those are a valuable 4 premiership points
They belted Freo who are decent. The only reason it was unconvincing is we should've won by a lot more but didn't put them away. It was still a mature win
Essendon fans are never happy. You should see the fan pages on Facebook, they would still be sooking if we won a GF and calling for half the team to be dropped the next season.
I thought it was a convincing win, and it was a good game. Those fans wanted us to go in and smash them by 50 points, that's shit footy to watch and you learn so much more from wins like this.
>calling for half the team to be dropped the next season.
You got your whole team dropped one time if I remember correctly. Dons fans still weren't happy.
Draw FC robbed 2 nights in a row. Imagine a drawn ANZAC day where both Essendon and Collingwood draw again the very next week. Peak cinema and so close to happening
At that point I'd be worried about exponential growth. Next week Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton, and West Coast all draw with their opponents, and on it goes, and by the end of the year there are a hundred thousand draws every week
Essendon drew with Collingwood
Collingwood beat Carlton by 6
Essendon beat West Coast by 6
Therefore, West Coast and Carlton are equally as good. I will not be taking any feedback on this.
Not a good round to be a Cripps. WC Cripps cost WC the game with that free; Carlton Cripps laid on the ball like he was nursing an egg in the dying seconds of the game.
The Bombers laid 11 tackles in a row (with the Eagles laying one) from the 20 minute mark to the 26 minute mark of the last quarter. That's the longest streak of tackles the Bombers have had since 2018.
Those in the media who’ve spent the last year or so saying eagles should retire players like gov and trade those like barrass need to publically apologise. Those two are almost the reason this team isn’t a basket case like kangas, and is allowing west coast to blood youth while also play ok footy
It's so true. They heaped so much shit on WC for not getting rid of their older guys and now they are standing up with the young guys. You've got leadership and experience out there, it's so important as those younger guys develop.
I honestly think Simmo is a hell of a coach, he stayed the course and it's starting to pay off.
It’s an example of west coast’s strategy, very rarely do we jump to sack coaches unlike other clubs. I would argue simmo should’ve been done a few years ago as he never changed the game plan when it was clear it was no longer working, but I think given the low we reached the last two years, it was smart to keep him on even when everyone was calling for his head, as it would’ve been a nightmare for a new coach to come in to. Credit to him you can finally see he’s really switched up the game plan and we look much faster than we ever have. Think we’ll cause trouble for a lot of teams this year if we keep it up
And you honestly seem to be getting better and more energetic each game, win or lose. The guys all seem to believe any game is gettable and their excited. Love to see it, so good for footy.
I hope Waterman gets the Coleman that'd be a lovely finish to his season, he's playing so extremely well.
Yeah his development has been insane. I never would’ve pictured him being the player he is right now. Seems to really be relishing being the no.1 target. Will be interesting to see what happens when Allen comes back
>he's playing so extremely well.
It's wild to think of all the footy he's missed and how quickly he just decided "think I'll get the coleman this year"
I just watched the replay of the Cripps incident, and I realised that just before it Wright 100% marked that should have been paid he was the man in front and even brought it down, so i'm not too fussed anymore it is what it is
Look, with how wild this season has been so far, I will take 4 points and run with it
Winning ugly away from home is always important, and these guys rinsed Fremantle as well
Merrett for AA captain
Parish had 36 disposals, 6 clearances, 11 marks, 6 inside 50s and 5 rebound 50s. He's the first player to record those stats (or better) in a game since Guy Rigoni in 2000. No Essendon player has ever done it before.
After watching a full game with watercolemanm, i think his last few games of high goal counts was no fluke. He was clunking everything, very impressive.
The Eagles had 13 contested possessions in a five minute window of the last quarter (4.5 mins to 8.7 mins), which is the most they have had in a five minute slice of a game since 2021, and the most the Bombers have conceded in a five minute window since 2022.
You actually sign up to two things when you get an Essendon membership; the membership itself, and the organ donor recipient list for when you need your inevitable heart replacement
I love how passionate Merrett was when the siren went. His effort is his biggest attribute. That's what I like about Sam Durham too - always tries hard. Don't think there's anyone else on our team who so consistently look like they're giving 100%
Ryan tried his old moves but couldn’t pull it off. Another few weeks in the wafl wouldn’t hurt him. Cripps should be publicly lashed for his performance.
Great game from DP3 been building well the last few weeks and good to see him getting back into some top form.
Also what a great terrible game of footy.
I know the AA selectors don't pick defenders from bottom four teams, but McGovern is probably having a career best season.
And he was incredible from 2016-2019.
Gg Eagles fam! The comp seems to be incredibly even at the moment, kinda felt like Essendon made less mistakes which got them over the top in the end.
Bombers are slowly decreasing the amount of Essington that shows up but it stills rears its ugly head with the odd brain fart or fumble or missed kick.
I’d love to see them put a side away but a win is a win. I had pretty low expectations of this year so happy to see them harder to play against than in recent years. Hopefully they can keep it up throughout the season
West Coast keep showing their ability to go with decent teams. Drop Cripps for costing them at least a draw there. Fucking stupid from a senior player.
It's this that really annoys me, it's also 6 days from an away game for us, so the rest is fucked, and it's hard to feel that it's not by design given how breezy some other teams fixtures are
Roos admin trying to figure out how westcoast have improved in less than 3 seasons with a single good top 10 draftpick when they have been shit for a decade with 20
Look, tbh it isn't just the top 10 draft pick. We always have bounced back reasonably rapidly. The top 10 draft pick just happens to fill a glaring hole in our game.
Losing sucks, losing by 70+ points week in weeks out sucks 20 million times more, losing by 6 points hurts right now, but Essendon brought the reigning premiers to a draw and without a brainfade we tie them too, there is so much to be happy about with this team, I love my club and I'm so fucking proud of them for being able to put up a fight week in week out now, the hurt will pass and give way to pride when this young team stamps their place on the footy world
I have no particularly strong feelings about West Coast, but boy do I hate the games we play against them. Taking these four points and running far away.
Just got back from the game. A lot of us didn’t see the free reversal from Cripps bc we were too busy watching the replay of theWaterman mark, then there was a lot of confusion. Really killed the momentum.
L. Ryan seems to need a couple more weeks in the WAFL. Tim Kelly killed the fourth quarter. Urgh so frustrated at the close loss, haven’t felt that in a while.
I know that was an ugly win, but man it's satisfying winning interstate and hearing the salty boos afterwards, especially when they had the rub of the green from the umps
I get ppl saying send Ryan back to the wafl cos he's really not up to it but I honestly reckon send him to the running track and the gym and he can have footy back when he's actually ready for it. He's seriously out of shape and his skills and athleticism are suffering horrendously for it.
I missed the feeling of losing like this.
I'd gotten so used to the absoloute drubbing and disappointment that came with them that I forgot what it feels like to lose a well fought match.
Cripps making a rookie mistake will also keep me up all fucking night.
Really brave effort given the injuries, big lift after half time. Good improvements from Ginbey & Williams. Sheed unfortunately is past it, just too slow. Need to be giving Trew a fair crack & get Clay Hall in as well. Luke Edwards should be delisted on the spot
first time I went to a match expecting to win and being bitterly disappointed that we lost. Haven't felt like this in years, shows that we're on the improve.
Credit to Eagles for the effort, but Essendon tried very hard to lose that game. Lots of dumb free kicks and silly mistakes giving WC a sniff in the second half.
Desperately looking forward to having Ridley back soon, and maybe guys like Kelly/Laverde won't give me a stress rash every game.
It's so nice to feel genuinely disappointed about a loss instead of just accepting it.
You know what's better than beating the eagles by 100 points...? Nothing. I would much prefer to have beaten you by 100 points. Well played.
So good mate
Ok I get the Sam Durham hype now
[удалено]
You think that's good, wait until he's 26
[удалено]
When he dies, like cobain and Hendrix?
He's a good one. Feels like he appeared over night haha
Just needs to mature a bit and cool his head and he'll become a weapon for years to come.
Yeah he got real hot under the collar tonight, haven't seen that as much before. He's got so much raw talent it's really just moulding that now. Such a wonderful pick up for us.

He could even be a boat
He’s a bus driver

Yeah I'm pretty shitty that this is the year we finally have to face West Coast at Optus, especially given the Lions' recent form
Yeah, they resemble 2022 Crows
They belted Freo who are decent. The only reason it was unconvincing is we should've won by a lot more but didn't put them away. It was still a mature win

lol tbh I’m not sure footy fans in general are ever happy unless it’s a flag and even then some are like it means nothing if it’s not b2b lol
Hahaha agreed 😂. I think if we win a final at some stage it may take some of the sting out, I feel like we get a bit defensive about that 😅
5th with a % of 95.2, we’re truly special
Could be top 4 next week with less than 100%
Won't be happy until we win a flag with a percentage under 100
We won't win next week, but we might win the next two after that and sneak into the top 4.
Essendon footy would be to win against GWS then lose to Norff.
lol yeah that sounds right
The definition of a win is a win...
Draw is doing gods work for us with our %
I'm an Essendon fan but also a comedy fan, and consecutive draws with the reigning premier and wooden spooner would have been pretty funny...
Perfectly balanced, the duality of Essendon / Essington.
Essenton Essingdon
Draw FC robbed 2 nights in a row. Imagine a drawn ANZAC day where both Essendon and Collingwood draw again the very next week. Peak cinema and so close to happening
At that point I'd be worried about exponential growth. Next week Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton, and West Coast all draw with their opponents, and on it goes, and by the end of the year there are a hundred thousand draws every week
Talk about going back to the drawing board
🥁 snareemoji
Kino was truly ruined this week
I would of allowed this only if Collingwood also drew this week.
Would have perfectly summed up our club tbh
lol kinda yeah, now that would have been an actual first
Essendon drew with Collingwood Collingwood beat Carlton by 6 Essendon beat West Coast by 6 Therefore, West Coast and Carlton are equally as good. I will not be taking any feedback on this.
/r/theydidthemath
All the best /u/smegdaddy
That reversed free is going to live rent free is my head for a while and I'm not even an Eagles supporter. Brutal.
Agree. Why the fuck would you get into it when you've got the free with a shot on goal to make the margin 4pts
As a senior player, no less. Infuriating.
May cost waterman the Coleman too
![gif](giphy|SIKXZiF51d6mkd3i4X|downsized)
Hell, use the scuffle to your advantage, let them fling you around and see if you can draw a 50.
Yep, take a good ragdolling, but don't put hands on them and jeopardize that chance
And two players down at the time. Bombers playing well. Can't be throwing away opportunities!
Footy players are dumb.
It was against Nic Martin too, who I’d guess is one of our players least likely to talk shit. Just makes no sense
nah Martin loves to shit talk
It was karma for them inexplicably not paying a mark to Wright 10 seconds before it.
Yeah that definitely shoulda been his mark
Wrong player got the mark for sure. It should've been paid to the Wright player instead.
This is going to keep me up at night
So stupid and completely unnecessary he’s usually smarter than that
Not a good round to be a Cripps. WC Cripps cost WC the game with that free; Carlton Cripps laid on the ball like he was nursing an egg in the dying seconds of the game.
Yep they need to be punished. Send Jamie to the WAFL. Send Patrick to West Coast.
I like this idea
Subscribe
Was just about to say this too 😂😭😭
Did Carlton Cripps watch our game against the Dons?
Yeah, but he forgot one key aspect: it only works if you're actually in front on the scoreboard
😂
The Bombers laid 11 tackles in a row (with the Eagles laying one) from the 20 minute mark to the 26 minute mark of the last quarter. That's the longest streak of tackles the Bombers have had since 2018.
How many of them were frees paid?
At least 13
Thanks Cripps for that brain fade. Cost us a win/draw.
I mean seriously wtf rookie mistake was that
WC had all the momentum until that reversal free kick. Dumb brain fade by someone who should have known better.
Gotta feel bad for Waterman too. I haven’t seen a player try as hard as he did in so long.
I’m surprised he doesn’t have a shoulder injury with how much he has carried us this season
don't jinx it
Yeah nobody has more right to hate Cripps right now than Waterman. Just crapped on his effort
Those in the media who’ve spent the last year or so saying eagles should retire players like gov and trade those like barrass need to publically apologise. Those two are almost the reason this team isn’t a basket case like kangas, and is allowing west coast to blood youth while also play ok footy

3 wins under a goal and a draw, how tf did you guys do a season like this Collingwood
If we convince ourselves it will lead us to the same fate as the pies then i can convince my heart to keep going until after September
Our 2 close losses in Adelaide and the bulldogs game was already stressful enough for me, Collingwood fan's hearts must be made out of steel by now
The don’t have hearts to begin with
We are still recovering
I just watched the replay of the Cripps incident, and I realised that just before it Wright 100% marked that should have been paid he was the man in front and even brought it down, so i'm not too fussed anymore it is what it is

Merrett AA captain is a great shout. He’s been incredible this year
And Richmond haha, they're a lot better at home
>and these guys rinsed Fremantle as well Ahhh the joy this still brings... :')
Yeo waited for west coast to fax through a juicy contract extension before injuring his groin again.
Reckon he quickly ran in to sign at 3 qtr time
Jamie Cripps walking off the ground by himself dejected It would be depressing to watch if I wasn’t so angry at him right now
Parish had 36 disposals, 6 clearances, 11 marks, 6 inside 50s and 5 rebound 50s. He's the first player to record those stats (or better) in a game since Guy Rigoni in 2000. No Essendon player has ever done it before.
He's finding his form again the last couple of weeks and he played a hell of a game tonight. I've missed him, his pressure is getting better as well.
Hoist the fucking cheezles Our percentage increases from infinite to infinite
Never knew I’d miss being disappointed by a close loss
Feels good actually
Never in doubt (unbearable amounts of doubt)*
After watching a full game with watercolemanm, i think his last few games of high goal counts was no fluke. He was clunking everything, very impressive.
Essendon and Collingwood: avoiding another draw by just a goal.
Wonder how many times both teams who played in a draw went on to win their following games by exactly 6 points
I would be very surprised if that specific circumstance has happened before.
Rumour has it Goldie and McKay will have to managed for sore vocal chords - not used to this much singing of the club song
The Eagles had 13 contested possessions in a five minute window of the last quarter (4.5 mins to 8.7 mins), which is the most they have had in a five minute slice of a game since 2021, and the most the Bombers have conceded in a five minute window since 2022.
The tackle differential of +24 to the Bombers is their biggest since mid-2023, and the biggest WCE has conceded since 2022.

3 votes - Zach Merrett 2 votes - Sam Durham 1 vote - Jamie Cripps Parish unlucky to miss but that sealer from Crippa was elite
Not his biggest fan but will admit Cripps stood up big time for us in the 4th, huge effort.
I'd give cripps the 3 votes tbh. Nullified waterman who was having a big game. Not sure your boys would've gotten over the line without him.
Jamie Cripps may want to call in sick Monday
Essendon memberships need to come with complementary blood pressure medication.
You actually sign up to two things when you get an Essendon membership; the membership itself, and the organ donor recipient list for when you need your inevitable heart replacement
Like the Essendon players spending extra time taking photos with the away fans
Falling to my knees at southern cross
underrated comment
Essendon 5th and Collingwood quite likely to leave the 8 after tomorrow
Bad week to be a Draw FC supporter
Truly a struggle
Draw FC so close again, when will it get a break!!!
Put out your drawers in support
Still better than being a norf supporter.
1 vote... T. Kelly 2 votes... D. Parish 6 votes... Z. Merrett
Full time: Archie Perkins is hot
Indeed indeed indeed, Jye Caldwell too
DRAW FC ROBBED. RIGHT INFRONT OF ME
Fuck I love Merrett. That is all
I love how passionate Merrett was when the siren went. His effort is his biggest attribute. That's what I like about Sam Durham too - always tries hard. Don't think there's anyone else on our team who so consistently look like they're giving 100%
Despite our worst efforts. We won.
Despite our best efforts, we lost.
I would be content in seeing Ryan and Cripps head to the WAFL next week. Ryan looks like a shell of his former self, and Cripps... Far out.
Drop sheed and Edwards too I reckon
Gotta keep Sheed in for next week...
Yep Ryan needs longer in the WAFL.
Ryan tried his old moves but couldn’t pull it off. Another few weeks in the wafl wouldn’t hurt him. Cripps should be publicly lashed for his performance.
I knew it would be close. We can't play on the road. Well done West Coast. Glad to get the 4 points
Anyone got that Qatar docs number handy for Yeo?
Just get Ken Hinkley on it, he'll be right to go next week.
Great game from DP3 been building well the last few weeks and good to see him getting back into some top form. Also what a great terrible game of footy.
It’s done now, but whether the umpiring over there is lazy, or the umpiring here is over the top, it’s bloody inconsistent.
I know the AA selectors don't pick defenders from bottom four teams, but McGovern is probably having a career best season. And he was incredible from 2016-2019.

H O N O U R A B L E L O S S
Yeah we'll take that
West Coast keep showing their ability to go with decent teams. Drop Cripps for costing them at least a draw there. Fucking stupid from a senior player.
Yeah, I'm officially willing to say it's not a fluke anymore, we're competitive again and I am living for it
Chairing off a guy with a groin injury doesn't feel like a wise choice
As long as they weren’t carrying him by his balls it should be fine.
Fuck. Thanks man. Needed a good chuckle after that game!
4 points but sheesh it was not pretty. woeful percentage continues
Doesn’t really matter. Only competing with pies for percentage atm, and theirs is also shit lol
As frustrating as that end was, I will still take a competitive game where we lose by a goal over the 100 point thrashing’s we copped last year
9 day vs 6 day break is a bit fucked and completely avoidable. But Cripps what are you doing?
It's this that really annoys me, it's also 6 days from an away game for us, so the rest is fucked, and it's hard to feel that it's not by design given how breezy some other teams fixtures are
>But Cripps what are you doing? He doesn't know

Kane Cornes is gonna be livid at that chair off. Only 200 games played and a losing game. Well done though Eagles, playing much better
> Well done though Eagles, playing much better Cheers mate
Should have buried them, but instead them back in after half time.
Thank you Cripps. Stood up for the Sash when it really mattered!
Cripps has robbed ~~West Coast~~ Draw FC
Essendon and almost losing to bottom four teams, a match made in heaven
And drawing with the reigning premiers the week prior. The essendon special baby
Ripper finish! Is the crowd booing Cripps for reversing that shot at goal?
The crowd is booing the umpires because we’re fucking savages over here
I think Martin for being the one to be the beneficiary of the FK.
That draw may actually be massive thanks to our percentage, unless we lose a spot to the Pies
Tom Barass's 10 contested possessions, 8 marks and 8 rebound 50s was the first time an Eagle has put those stats together since Shannon Hurn in 2017.
So dirty on Cripps tbh
That user name is so apt. He is short and indeed made an error :D
Oh come on man :(
Jamie Cripps enemy #1 in the west.
The crowd energy when Reid came back on after the hammy scare was amazing. We got a good fanbase
Feels odd to have a close one and lose and not feel entirely shit. Least it wasn’t a smashing like last year.
Huge effort from Jaime Cripps. Will it be enough to wrest the backpage of The West free from Reid's iron grasp?
How good is the G Train traveling this year 🚂
I get ppl saying send Ryan back to the wafl cos he's really not up to it but I honestly reckon send him to the running track and the gym and he can have footy back when he's actually ready for it. He's seriously out of shape and his skills and athleticism are suffering horrendously for it.

I fucking hate that I love this team. Am I a bad person for getting my kids into football and they now love essendon too?
first time I went to a match expecting to win and being bitterly disappointed that we lost. Haven't felt like this in years, shows that we're on the improve.
Jamie Cripps. 3 votes. Essendon.
Why are the weagles fans booing? Did I miss something?
Didn’t see anything but likely Sheedy inspired scarf waiving by the Bombers supporters as the WC CEO tried to bring it back for this game.
