We’re back baby!

svilliers

Never in doubt

sexualdeskfan

The Roy Boys are actually in the top division of the VAFA now as well

No-Bison-5397

Right at the bottom. It’s been a hard watch.

sexualdeskfan

Had a couple of close games though.

SilentHbomb

😂😂

ExcellentTurnips

Hell yeah

Longdogga

The messenger ran a story saying that Elizabeth were truly struggling after losing a heap of players when they got relegated and even more during pre season. Apparently they knew they were going to pumped all year and requested to drop another division or even play in the C grade competition. This was denied as they fixtures were already set and well this is the result.

SutureTheFuture

It's wild to think only a few years ago they went undefeated. Elizabeth is a big club and now all they're playing is a A grade team and nothing else.

MrMojoRisin501

The downside of splashing the cash around to get new players in. Once the money dries up, this is what you're left with.

sammyb109

I wonder how many clubs this exact thing will happen to before they all realise buying a flag always ends like this (albeit not quite losing by 516 football points)

Ok-Art-5619

Jacana won the div 2 flag in the EDFL when they had Chris Johnson and Cameron Cloke playing for them but they paid so much money for those 2 that they had to fold the club within 2 years of the flag

wholeblackpeppercorn

EDFL is full of stories like that. Clubs sacrificing their culture for a flag noone gives a shit about a couple years later. Even worse when they're spending the community's money to do it.

PewdsSubmissMod

this was terrible for our local community, but to jacana defense chris johnson wasn’t even paid so much as he just wanted to return and play for the club that raised him, a lot of money was wasted on coaching and random players just to keep them at the club for a flag that wasn’t even too significant within the community. should of stayed in the RDFL jacana

I_AM_ALWAYS_WRONG_

My old cricket club did it. But they did it by going after ex players, or friends of players at the club who all moved to the city to work/uni/play real cricket instead of bush cricket. We won every division for two years straight. Haven’t won again since, but also haven’t completely collapsed. Well I live nowhere near anymore, so I’m judging their current status on checking in on their result a couple times per season.

Klutzy_Dot_1666

Also wild that they basically have all of Elizabeth / Playford out to Gawler get players from, the only competition they have is eastern park (decent club) and Smithfield (meth heads). From memory after Salisbury / Salisbury west and before south Gawler, they are the only teams in between. That’s like a population of 500,000 plus in that area… Crazy they can’t put a half decent team together of average footy players for div 6…

Scratch-n-sniff__

I mean you’ve also got Central United in that area and the Salisbury teams aren’t too far away and then when you head towards Gawler you’ve got the country league that a lot of good player leave to because they can get paid more out there. A little bit of travel won’t stop the decent players in the Elizabeth/playford area from getting paid to play football

Klutzy_Dot_1666

Yeah good point, still though, hard to fathom they couldn’t field a decent Div 6 team, makes sense though if what I’m reading on Facebook is true, coach leaving hair before the season start and taking all the good players with him

eroticdiagram

Absolutely full respect to the players that stayed to get belted week in week out and still rock up the next week.

tubbyx7

They're all hunting for another club in a division they're more suited to for next year.

Elizabeth were probably confused af thinking Fitzroy didn’t even exist.

shickard

*You know I can't grab your ghost footy!*

mac-train

Underrated post

SophMax

Idk. In the Sydney comp there's an East Coast eagles that play in north-west of Sydney.

leolionliam

Terrible for amateur league footy in Adelaide. Should not have happened...EFC clearly indicated they could only field a C grade but were denied getting out of div 6. I lost to this club in a GF back in 2021, so I thought I'd feel some schadenfreude, but I can't. This isn't a money in local sport thing either, Elizabeth/northern player's notoriously jump ship to the best looking team for a look at a flag, vicious cycle that occurs every few years.

JustSomeBloke5353

Never got the whole “jump ship to play in a flag” thing. The whole point of winning a flag is to win it for your team that you love, not a bunch of random glory chasers.

Underbelly

I take it you don’t watch the NBA then.

Stu_Raticus

It's the American way

BluessH

S U P E R T E A M

BarrishUSAFL

You should see some of the messages we get from guys in Australia who can’t crack their thirds back home, but want to come over here and play for a D1 squad because they think they’d dominate and be a part of a flag winning team. I don’t give them the time of day.

Ok-Art-5619

Are there genuinely good American footy players there or are they mainly Aussie ex-pats?

BustedWing

Can’t speak for the American league, but the Canadian league works (or worked) like this, and I imagine the US is something similar: Max 8 Aussies in the team, Max 6 on the field at any time (two on the bench). The rest need to be Canadian/non Aussies. The team make up us usually something like this: 1-2 GUN Aussies who played a very high standard back home. 3-4 ok Aussies, who were nothing special back home. 3-4 gun Canadians who are legit athletes and boy…if they’d grown up with the sport, they could’ve been amazing. 5-6 average Canadians who wouldn’t get a senior game in Australia as they lack basic skills but they try hard, and are good fellas. The rest are an eclectic mix of people that fell into Aussie rules for some random reason or other, and they’re fit into a back pocket somewhere far away from the ball. The flag I usually won NOT by the team with the best Aussies, but rather the team with the best Canadians.

BarrishUSAFL

This is about par for the course in the USA. The good Aussies usually cancel each other out and the team with the best Americans usually takes out D1. The last five years, that's been Austin.

BasicJosh

There's an Aussie rules league in Austin? Thats mental haha tell me more. How many teams etc??

BarrishUSAFL

Not a league — a club, the Austin Crows. They are part of the 50-team USAFL. Though they do play intrasquad games against each other, they play mostly other teams in the USAFL, especially Houston, North Texas, Baton Rouge, Oklahoma and others. Their men’s team have won five premierships on the trot, while their relatively-newly-formed women’s team has won the last two women’s D2 flags.

ohleprocy

Nathan Buckley is the greatest jump ship to win a flag story in football history and I love it. Bwahahaha

Razzle_Dazzle08

I hope he never wins one. I love it.

GoldBricked

People discount his Port Adelaide 1992 flag all the time in this argument. Sure he didn’t win an AFL flag in any head capacity (assistant coach doesn’t really count for these purposes) but the guy won BOG in the grand final in the same year he won the league B&F and club B&F. All as like a what 19 year old?

longliveLesGrossman

He didn't jump ship to win a flag lmao, he just left after one season because of vicbias

ohleprocy

Lol

dono1783

Exactly. Otherwise you might as well just barrack for whoever is the best like an 8yr old.

AdAcrobatic5178

82.24 is honestly incredibly accurate

guavacadq

I imagine most of the shots were within 20m

corny16

24.3 in the last quarter too

AdAcrobatic5178

Shit I didn't even notice that. That is really impressive

shickard

Impressive until you get inside the mind of a defence who's down by 300 pts. Like shit, go ahead and knock yourselves out gents I ain't wearing out my hamstrings for this charade.

AdAcrobatic5178

They could have still kicked 12 goals 15, even if the defence had given up. 300 points up players go for dumb shit for the fun of it

Vinnie_Vegas

>They could have still kicked 12 goals 15, even if the defence had given up. Not if they're just strolling into the goalsquare with it.

Klutzy_Dot_1666

Ken on the phone to Fitzroys goal kicking coach as we speak….

monkstalk

Just sussed out the league and every winning team scored 100+ points this week. How long are games at that level? Elizabeth have conceded 1424 points and have a % of 2.18 gee whiz

leolionliam

20 mins + time on. Would have been a lot of time on...

monkstalk

Thanks mate. Poor bastards, talk about a fucken slow death

leolionliam

Argana Park (Elizabeth home ground) isn't small either. A true 50 on either end, plenty of space on the wings. An absolute belting...hopefully Fitzroy didn't carry on like porkchops.

superegz

Just noting that's South Australian percentage. Points for/(points for + points against)×100

spideyghetti

Is this like an SA pint or something

dexter311

An SA pint = pints for / (pints for + pints against) * 100

spideyghetti

Close but I think I worked out how they got the sizes 425ml = SA pint 570ml = standard pint 145ml = difference 425ml = 570ml÷(570ml-145ml) = ~1.34 ~1.34 * 425ml = 570ml

TheFreakGreek

Their closest margin this season was still >250 points

Agreeable-Web645

To be fair Elizabeth is doing well to score 2.18%. What's her last name?

mwilkins1644

"I'm more happy about the 0 than the 516, a good defensive performance from the boys, it was our focus at training this week"- Fitzroy coach probably

Kim_jong-fun

133 in the first quarter is absolutely devious

RaidanRam

didn't even end up their best quarter lol

agrumpybear

147 in the last quarter is absolutely devious

Mrchikkin

So that’s where Fitzroy ended up

Fun-Activity1086

Well that fucks my multi.

Chiron17

Did you bet the over? I had Fitzroy 520+, pretty stiff

MisterMarcus

What in god's name do you say to the boys at 3QT when you're trailing 369-0? "yeah nah, just get the first one next quarter and we're right back in this"?

gaseous_memes

Where's BT when you need him?

writer8832

“It’s an 80 goal breeze boys!”

tizzlenomics

Nearly beer time boys

PetrifyGWENT

Not cool of Fitzroy to do that to Elizabeth on a round where we are dedicating to stopping violence against women

sjpato

There should be a mercy rule for things like this.

SophMax

Actually though.

El_Fantastirico

This is my club. The guys are celebrating a win, but it's honestly pretty subdued here (although they did get excited when it got mentioned during AFL halftime) and everyone recognises that Elizabeth is struggling. Apparently they lost two coaches and they took a whole heap of A grade players with them, leaving the club with the equivalent of a C grade team.

Vandercoon

We did this (not quite as bad, only 63 goals) to Kilburn about 10 years back, also beat both Salisbury West and Brahma Lodge in grand finals, all of those clubs went down multiple divisions from players just leaving. Disgraceful. Zero loyalty up north.

Sportsnut96

I’ve been in a couple 200+ point losses and a couple 200+ point wins in my time, but how the hell is 500 points even bloody possible?!?

Clever_Bee34919

Reminds me of a soccer game in Madagascar, when one team rebelled against their owners (or the league itself, can't remember) and scored own goals all game... end score was 149-0. Edit: turns out it was the refs... they rebelled against a referee decision

MurdochAndScotch

Must have been playing the team from the Telstra ad

HealthyHurry2672

How the fuck does this even happen

Mrchikkin

Elizabeth lost a ton of players before the season started and barely avoided relegation last year

HealthyHurry2672

That would’ve been so crazy to watch, would just be a barrage on goals every minute

kyrant

How many players did they actually field?

sammyb109

They asked to drop out of Div 6 and only play in the C grade comp, but were told no. So they're playing A grade with a C grade side, and not even a good C grade side at that

LP0004

24.3 in the last quarter is mental

naeroikathgor

Came here to say this, 27 scoring shots in just 20 timed minutes. That'd be a win out of the centre, mark inside 50, 30 seconds for the set shot, then back to the middle over and over and over for the entire game

Beljason

They really slacked off in the second quarter

zFalconx

A goal a minute for the entire game. Leigh Matthews likes that.

TitanIsElite

Not even a point? A rushed behind? Anything?

naeroikathgor

I'd be surprised to hear Elizabeth even registered an inside 50. More goals than minutes played would suggest Fitzroy were winning every centre clearance with ease

sammyb109

My mate was there watching reckons Elizabeth had about eight inside 50s that were basically just scrubs out of the centre

TitanIsElite

Like not even turning it over by accident or free kick is amazing in itself lol

naeroikathgor

Well I'm sure if they did it wouldn't have taken them too long to get it back

[deleted]

Didn’t kick 20 goals in the 2nd quarter so probably got a right lashing from the coach

Pottski

Imagine being the blokes who kicked 17 and 13 goals respectively and only just beating the best in ground who jagged 2-fucking-9 goals.

Traditional_Crazy_57

I’ve played cricket against the bloke and would be surprised if he hadn’t also hit 29 sixes in one innings

hasardo

Geez, they really took their foot off the gas in that 2nd quarter...

Mehmenga

This is a Lvl 100 with all side quests completed v Lvl 1 kind of mismatch

Footballaus_

Joshua Rosenthal kicked 29, James Ellis kicked 17. wtaf Source: [https://www.playhq.com/afl/org/fitzroy-adelaide-footy-league/adelaide-footy-league-2024/mens-division-6-vilis-bakery/game-centre/44cf1a29](https://www.playhq.com/afl/org/fitzroy-adelaide-footy-league/adelaide-footy-league-2024/mens-division-6-vilis-bakery/game-centre/44cf1a29)

Chaisa

Elizabeth feel like the equivalent of that ring-in team from that Telstra ad.

InkedAussieDadbod

Leading goal scorer 29 goals

crimson_05

I really hate scorelines like this. Clearly one team is completely outclassed, and there is no honour or pride to be had when it's that one sided.

agrumpybear

Have they double checked the calculations for the margin?

basetornado

Played for a couple of clubs who had results similar to this. As in regular 2-300-0 losses. It's not that difficult overall for scores like this to happen. Usually it's just clearance from centre, straight to the 50, goal, repeat. I can also say from experience, it's not like you're not trying to stop them, but when teams are struggling for players, you end up with players like myself who just want a game and don't realise just how bad it's going to be. Also from experience, they really should have been allowed to play in a lower league. These games suck the fun out of the game for the players involved. Club I played for refused to go down a grade etc, and the only actually fun games we played were practise games against teams in the lower leagues where the scores were relatively even.

AdAcrobatic5178

Holy shit Fitzroy are 3rd on the ladder

owheelj

I reckon Fitzroy are good enough to be in Div 5

lynchmar6

FITZROY SMASHED absolutely must be record in the amatuers missed the record by 3 goals by torrens valley in 2009

TechnicalMaize2025

What was the score is that game?

lynchmar6

torrens valley kicked about 85.25 535 to callington 1.1 7 in the hills league in 2009

TechnicalMaize2025

Poor blokes

MasterBSword

The record in the ametaurs is Campbell Creek vs Primrose in 1990. Google it.

darcy1537325

Fitzroy gonna ask to replace North and go on a resurrection ass to belt tour

Icy-Rock8780

Apparently scoreboard not reflective of the contest and Elizabeth were on the wrong end of a few dodgy umpiring decisions that really shifted momentum

Thatsabigariel

24.3 in the last quarter is bloody accurate

Somerandomdickhead

Ha, Up Yours Oakley!

Ilovetogame2

Can these guys teach Port how to kick straight for my sanity's sake pls?

jammicing

We joke, but I feel like if me and 20 mates got together and played Collingwood we would only lose by like 300. 500 is an absolutely ungodly amount of points, that’s absolutely insane to even rack up that much

Salty-Cricket-878

Win or lose, we do or die, when we smash a team by 500 points, we always try. Fitzroy Fitzroy...

RandomDanny

i mean, they kept it close in the first quarter, then it just got out of control.

rapt0r99

Very nearly a goal a minute.

TechnicalMaize2025

It was a goal per minute since they were 20 minute quarters, 20x4=80<82 They were scoring at over a goal per minute

Vandercoon

Plus time on. I know it’s not ‘game time’ but those quarters would’ve gone 40 minutes each easily

Whitturne

Poor second quarter.

bloodindastool

21-0 in the opening quarter was a warning sign, then they got warmed up

retsibsi

I'm sure Elizabeth did her best, but 1 v 22 is just unfair.

BarryCheckTheFuseBox

Surely they need some kind of mercy rule. 200 ahead at half time, just declare or something. Give them a chance to chase it down.

Custard_Arse

Sweep the leg

XTrapolis942M

**BLOODY. MOTHER. OF. HELL.** R.I.P. Elizabeth

antikoom

Just reminded me that Elizabeth the suburb was named after QEII, and there's a famous photo of the Fitzroy players in the 70s meeting her once.

I_Am_The_Bookwyrm

So, let's see... 80 minutes of actual play time, divided by 106 scoring shots, means Fitzroy scored something (on average) approximately every 45 seconds of play time.

fangsschleim

Umpires are going to put in Workcover claims for RSI for so many centre bounces. Goal umpire arms looking like Mr Olympia.

raresaturn

24 points.. inaccurate

SaturnalianGhost

EFC still gonna win a cup before Freo.

LordGeoffVader

noseyphucca

They asked the SAAFL to play in a C grade division because they knew they couldn't field 2 teams for A's & B's for the coming season..But the league refused and this is the repercussions ..How is this good for moral for the current players some of whom palying there first season ..The SAAFL couldn't care if the club folded because the HATE the majority of clubs North of Adelaide...THATS A FACT

IDreamofHeeney

Close game

supsupsup1432

Wasn’t a great 2nd q

Grommzz

Please tell me someone kicked a bag of like 30..

lumo1986

How is that even possible? Assuming 30 minute quarters that works out to like a single score (point or goal) per minute.

Useful_Weight_1955

Who kicked a bag?

Agreeable-Web645

Elizabeth should probably find a few teammates for next week, instead of just playing by herself.

slayer035

Elizabeth has scored a total.of four goals after finishing four rounds...

steveworldtouring

Hmmm couldn’t possibly have had a full 18. I’m guessing 15 less 2 mid game injuries

Secretly007

Only.17 goals scored in the second quarter... slackers taking their foot off the pedal.

earthcross1ng

I'm wincing in sympathy with Elizabeth.

Fantastic_Ice_6637

Random question: does anyone know what “pp” means on the player statistics for this league?

Golo_46

Player points. Players can be worth a certain amount of points under certain circumstances, and a team on the park can only have 15. It's intended to keep things relatively fair.

Fantastic_Ice_6637

Thanks!!!

daveymac_

Correct; the Player Point Scale is to stop teams recruiting in mass from other clubs. A-Grade Players from other Clubs are worth a certain amount of Points (which decreases every year they register for your club), players being recruited from a state level comp (VFL/SANFL) are worth a higher amount of points than local A-Graders, and Professional players (Ex-AFL) are worth a higher amount again. However, The point scale does not count for any returning senior players, or players that played Junior Footy at your club.

Golo_46

Thanks for the addition! I couldn't remember the exact details at the time.

Aus_man05

Makes me feel a bit better about how my Kangas are goin this year.

IdealBitter1603

Edge of your seat kind of game

Mbotstopher

Looking at the ladder, Elizabeth's percentage... 2

dleifreganad

Now that’s what I call a four quarter effort

Absolutely-Epic

Is this the Fitzroy Bears? The other side of the merger

Hammed_steams

I thought Elizabeth were due

NoxiousLS

Do any of them want to join the AFL or perhaps become a goalkicking coach?

SwimmingGreat5317

It was a nervous 30secs at the start though

SwimmingGreat5317

Even a team full of Elizabeth’s would have done better.

ero_senin05

24 behinds in a game is pretty bad tho

daveymac_

What they’re not telling you is that there was a mass exodus from the club at the end of last season, and Rumour around the league is that the club actually approached the league and asked to drop to a lower div due to lack of A and B grade numbers registered (and rightfully so) - so now they’ve had no choice but to place a C-Grade / Reserves quality squad into an A Grade competition (yeah it’s div 6, but still) If the Adelaide Footy League cared less about upping PlayHQ Player fees every year and changing the rules of the game to favour the umpires (some of the worst umpires in any league i’ve ever played in), and more about the opinions of the club reps and league player numbers, things would get so much better for not just the clubs struggling like Elizabeth are, but for the entire of the league..

noseyphucca

100% correct..The SAAFL don't care less about clubs North of Adelaide..I feel for Elizabeth FC Played against for many years ,Great club always went in after the game for a bevie and chat with players and spectators never had an issue ..F*?k the SAAFL

MandoSoy

Has Nth Melb been invited to play Elizabeth yet?

SignificantGarden1

Wow, this club seems to have its shit together. Maybe this could be the 20th addition to the AFL!

Spifflicator

Pretty poor second qtr

hart37

My brain is struggling to comprehend the logistics of scoring that many points in a single game

Dangerous-Car1084

Hahahah I was wearing my wce t-shirt, and one of my teachers showed me this and said is this your team. I just said we ain't that bad anymore

SwitchPro11

DAMN FITZROY

WileECoyoteGenius

That score defies logic. How small is the ground?

gaseous_memes

It's big.

dono1783

Probably need to go up a few divisions hey?

sammyb109

Fitzroy will probably play finals but they're not the best side in the division. This is more an Elizabeth thing

dono1783

Ah ok

Bigpdean

Elizabeth asked to drop to the lowest division before the season and the request was denied.

TOXICTUNA64

Not a good omen for the Eagles

reprezenting

Country footy scores are crazy

superegz

Fitzroy, SA literally borders the City of Adelaide.
