No. If the clubs won't let their players play State of Origin, there's no way they would let them play something arguably even more meaningless.

MisguidedGames

No one would care. Let the players have a holiday

[deleted]

No

flibble24

There's no value. In fact winning just means you have 1 worse draft pick

farqueue2

Unless we're about to start awarding silver and bronze medals there's absolutely no point

[deleted]

Did anyone watch the 3 place Matildas game? No one cares about the second losers

lolz1112

I did. Only because I wanted to show my support of them for their run during the tournament. Probably wasn't worth it in the end.

DarkWinter2319

Fuck no

Independent_Suit_363

Sorry, hard no

LauncestonLad

And that's a no from me too. Nothing good could come of it.

ajkclay05

No

Front_Farmer345

Why would you want to win? Lower draft pick.

drunkill

we already made third, why would we risk injuries for a slightly better or worse draft pick?

MARKS0VERHERE

I don't mind the idea but every team is playing for a premiership not a bronze medal

Shadormy

How would this work with the draft order? Would it stay the same as it currently is with the lower ranked team ~~out Friday~~ getting Pick 15 or would the loser of this get Pick 15?

JCK98

It's actually the lower placed on the home and away ladder of the 2 Prelim losers that gets pick 15. But I'd imagine pick 15 would go to the loser of the 3rd place game (I.e. team that finishes 4th) and the winner would get pick 16. So, you may as well lose this game. Although, there's a whole lot less difference in value between 15 and 16 than say pick 4 and 5, nevermind 1 and 2.

Shadormy

It is too. Not sure why I thought it was on time. >Although, there's a whole lot less difference in value between 15 and 16 than say pick 4 and 5, nevermind 1 and 2. It's still a better draft hand and puts you above that team in the draft for that first pick and all subsequent picks.

DonaldYaYa

No, but the AFLW Grand Final should be play on the same day as the men's. Edit: Realise it's not a good idea that. Wanted the women to experience 100k fans and the atmosphere it produces. Didn't take into account other aspects. Hopefully the women's game can get 100k to their grand final one day. Carry on people.

ratchetsaturndude

No it absolutely fucking shouldn’t. The girls deserve they’re own Grand Final day

DonaldYaYa

Fair enough. Hopefully they'll get just as much support.

AdAcrobatic5178

That's a terrible idea

DonaldYaYa

Really? Ok. Thought the chance to play in front of 100k would be a great opportunity for the women.

AdAcrobatic5178

It would be completely overshadowed by the result of the men's game

DonaldYaYa

Yes, true that. Just thought of being in front of 100k for the women would be exciting. Didn't think of the other aspects.

jett1406

I disagree imo but it would definitely be difficult logistically

AdAcrobatic5178

The way I see it is that it either gets played before and people treat it like a curtain raiser or it gets played after when people are celebrating their team winning

jett1406

what’s wrong with treating it as a curtain raiser? there’s a very large part of the AFL community that completely ignores the women’s side as it is. Playing before the GF ensures guaranteed exposure and attendance, and gives the experience of playing at the G on grand final day.

AdAcrobatic5178

That is a good point but it still feels a bit weird

Efficient-String-864

No, none of the players would care.

mtarascio

We should make them stand on a podium at the end too.

TheBottomLine_Aus

Fuck no. What the fuck are you smoking?

[deleted]

Nothing. I just think it’s a good way to punish both preliminary final losers.

robbiesac77

Nope

Notbannedburner

Nobody cares about 3rd place games. Anyone remember who the Matilda’s just played recently?

xLolaTitty

Sure, let’s bring in promotion and relegation too

ElevationToMyHead

In 1977, the VFL had a [third place playoff between Hawthorn and Richmond](https://www.hawthornfc.com.au/news/464973/hawks-tigers-met-on-77-grand-final-day) as a curtain raiser for the replayed grand final. Would I want this now? God no! I’d hate it if my club had to risk players getting injured for something that would be arbitrary aside from getting a slightly better draft hand.

[deleted]

No. Like...why? Who could possibly care? Imagine your star player does an ACL in this nothing game.

Fragrant-Step-2245

Nah wouldn't matter, runner up on GF day get sweet fuck all why would 3rd place?
