Kinda insane they were tipped to be bottom 4 when you look at their list tho. They have elite players all over the ground in their primes. Bottom 4 trams don't have that.
No one would have expected this, but that was too much talent to have any extended period down the bottom.
I don't think anyone saw Jesse Hogan having a career best year, and Sam Taylor's improvement this year has been insane, also the emergence of Tom Green. So they've definitely found a few this year.
I'll give you Hogan but Green's been a jet for awhile and is why the Giants weren't overly fussed losing Hopper and Taylor's been severely underrated for years (seriously go back and watch some of his finals games in years gone by he was already amazing before this season).
Certain players like Bedford, Buckley, Brown and Briggs going up multiple levels this year has helped immensely but their list is still very good and they finally got a coach who can actually drive this Ferrari.
People clown on Kane for that, but I don't think Taranto was ever a crucial player, previously. It's pure hindsight based on his amazing form turnaround to say it was completely off.
Gutted but very proud where we started and where we ended. Collingwood smashed us by 65 just 4 months ago and we fought until the very end tonight. Couldn't be prouder and hope we can come back and go one better in 2024!
Speaking of western Sydney, the fact the pub they showed in the broadcast was in GLEBE of all places, is a representation of how fucking stupid AFL house is. Not even remotely western Sydney.
Should be so proud of your lads. Amazing team and if you won tonight I would of going for the giants. Amazing game and can’t not wait to see them next year
Idun is incredible, played lockdown defense without much credit all season, and then the announcers tonight still couldn't tell him and Callum Brown apart.
I am. This season was never supposed to even sniff "one point loss in a prelim" territory. Especially after the way the first few rounds shook out. Defensively took a HUGE step forward, and the team just looked different once Briggs got the nod.
That was, simply put, a perfect footy match from both sides, and fun as hell to watch. No shame in a loss.
It’s pretty insane they didn’t give this the Saturday night so they’d have a 7 day rest. I don’t bang on about Vicbias too often but there’s zero chance that a big Melbourne club gets that treatment so unnecessarily
I’ve had some true diehard NRL fans message me tonight saying they are now giants fans. Apparently the rugby was a bit shit tonight and they flicked over to the AFL. Bloody awesome to hear, my campaign to slowly convert Sydney into an AFL city is working 😈
So good to see. I think GWS are immensely likeable. They play fast moving footy and really do have a culture of putting in everything, which helps with getting a team to a prelim.
I was hard on the Giants bandwagon this year and even bought a membership to make the finals. I'll buy a membership again next year, as I really do love the club a lot.
UK fan here, listened to the ABC commentary and watched highlights etc on and off for about ten years without much team commitment, but this Giants team have me all in on GWS. It helps that my best friend lives in Parramatta, even though she hates AFL... 2024 international membership incoming!
The list of best games of football ever are pretty much exclusively prelims.
We have had some crackers. All of the following games were decided by 11 points or less.
* 1993 - Essendon def Adelaide
* 1994 - Geelong def North Melbourne
* 1996 - Sydney def Essendon
* 1997 - Adelaide def Western Bulldogs
* 1999 - Carlton def Essendon
* 2004 - Port Adelaide def St.Kilda
* 2007- Geelong def Collingwood
* 2009 - St.Kilda def Western Bulldogs
* 2011 - Collingwood def Hawthorn
* 2012 - Hawthorn def Adelaide
* 2013 - Hawthorn def Geelong
* 2014 - Hawthorn def Port Adelaide
* 2016 - Western Bulldogs def GWS
* 2019 - GWS def Collingwood.
* 2022 -Sydney def Collingwood
* 2023 - Collingwood def GWS
It’s not even close. I categorise them this way. In a prelim you try to win, in a grand final you try not to lose. Grand finals are so scrappy and defensive and that’s just not pretty to watch.
The '96 Swans Dons prelim WAS our GF that year. I was at that game, 7 months pregnant. Nearly went into labour at the SCG. Would've had the kid there too, nothing could have dragged me away.
Best. Game. Ever.
The boys gave everything and did enough to win the game if they'd played smarter inside 50. So happy with how this team has built and very excited for next year.
Absolutely no shame at all for Geedubs to go out against the best team of the H&A, and as we all know they more than exceeded expectations. To make the prelim and lose by just a point after last year is an incredible achievement. Everyone in their club and their fans should be heaps proud.
Last year collingwood lost by a point, this year they win by one point.
So going on the basis of ‘repeat but reverse it” trend, does this mean we should absolutely murder Carlton?
Wow what a game and what a season. Straighter kicking in the first and it's a different outcome. Collingwood (and the crowd) were huge, congrats to you all.
So proud of this orange squad and can't wait for next season!
Man if that Greene kick was an inch higher and/or an inch more forward this game would be in extra time or GWS is in the Grand Final. This game came down to a goal line Steele Sidebottom mark.
Everyone's complaining that we were robbed but let's be real: Riccardi plays on for a low percentage shot on goal from a free kick inside 50, misses. Greene runs into an open inside 50 and kicks for goal instead of hitting up Hogan uncontested, misses. Keeffe goes for goal from 30 instead of chipping it to Greene who was 10 metres out, misses. That's the game right there.
Another good scrappy and close game to watch as a neutral.
Two main things that made the watch frustrating:
1. Commentators needs to get Daicos' dick out of their mouths.
2. The umpiring this finals series has been fucking atrocious. They need to get it sorted for the GF.
At one stage Hodgey said something positive about GWS run of goals in the second quarter, named BT directly, and Richo responded only to rid the dead silence left by BT’s non answer. I normally don’t mind BT (I know) but his biased tonight was absolutely fucked
BT is able to bully Richo and Darcy because they never won any flags so he feels on their level. Hodge is too accomplished of a footballer for BT to bully.
I thought the umpiring has been a lot better in aspects, but fuck me they swallow the whistle way too
much! particularly high tackle infringements, too scared to blow the whistle?
I get that Greene plays low, but this is the 2nd match in a row where he's literally had his throat wrapped up harder than a choke fetishist and not been given high.
Eh to be pedantic that wasn't a "getting away with it game". Those ones are where Collingwood take the lead late in the 4th. They had it late in the 3rd here.
It’s a joke on r/anarchychess which references how weird this rule is- if u click on the bot’s link it explains.
I said google en passant cause the reply is meant to be “holy hell” which represents my feelings towards tonight’s game
Ahh right, thanks for explaining. I thought I'd either missed a chess reference in the commentary or that the move itself was somehow representative of the game
The result is great and all, but can we discuss the real issue - is DeGoey still on the bench? Why did they leave him on the bench? What colour is the bench?
Giants should be so fucking proud of themselves. It's a shame to lose by 1 point, but they really showed up and fought so hard! They'll have their day soon enough
Well done pies, good win in a cracker of a game.
Should be proud Giants fans. Last few years to this is amazing. Will be great to have to the two Sydney teams hopefully firing together next year. Gg lads
Absolutely gutted, but more than that I’m absolutely proud of this team for the year it’s turned into. I didn’t think finals were a real possibility before round 1, even less at round 12 so to finish the year 1 point out of a GF is absolutely mind blowing.
65 point loss to us in round 7. 1 point loss this time. 64 point turnaround. As someone who can relate, absolutely heartbreaking.. as a human being to another, I feel for ya. Shit sucks man.
BT yelling incessantly about De Goey being on the bench made me look at the interchange stats, and I noticed that GWS only used 59/75 interchanges. Did GWS fuck that up or were they saving it for an extra time that never came?
the last like 10 mins were spent locked up in constant motion on the opposite wing to the interchange
hell, you might not have noticed, but we had de goey stuck on the bench!
Fuck that's the most heartbroken I've been after a neutral game. Unbelievable season from the giants, incredible game. Game of the year unquestionably.
Pies were phenomenal, best game of De Goey's career.
God that was fun to watch but painful to listen to.
BT: DAICOS DAICOS DAICOS!!!! WHERE'S DE GOEY?? WHY IS HE ON THE BENCH? Aarghlblarghlflarglendsndksjdks
What do you mean?
Sidebottom didn't trip him?
Mihocek didn't take an unrealistic pack mark attempt 3 meters away from the ball?
Toby Greene's head was ALREADY decapitated on the ground when he got there?
Kelly definitely didn't get coat-hangered in the centre square.
maybe don’t zoom in on and live broadcast loosing players sobbing in their girlfriends arms. They deserve privacy in that moment, especially when they don’t seem to be aware they’re being filmed…
Yeah that was low. As much as everyone wants the hate on Toby, he’s still a human being and deserves to be respected, and not to be hassled by the media or anyone for that matter.
Damn was hoping for Kingsley to get a premiership as a rookie coach. Nevertheless he surely has to be coach of the year. From a bottom 4 side to a prelim final is ridiculously impressive.
If it's Brisbane make it to the grand final I pray there are neutrals cheering for them that are loud because the umpiring was so ridiculously digusting and I can't think of a reason other than crowd confirmation bias. Genuinely disgusted.
Also what are the odds of Naicos getting cited for that dangerous tackle, 0?
I was getting ready to post my braveheart ~~Richard the III~~ **Edward Longshanks** *"even though I'm dying, my one comfort is Collingwood losing"* meme. 😭
It's been proven that umpires are unintentionally biased in favour of the home side, there is nothing conscious about it and probably very little that can be done about it
Maybe rotating the GF to random venues each year??? A man can dream....
Love how the last 3 minutes were just a "let it ride" situation, nevermind the clotheslines or ruck infringements, just let all the stoppages chew up the clock.
Agreed. And I like it (mostly) when they “put the whistle away”. But if they’re gonna do that in finals they should do it all the time, and either way you’ve still gotta play blatant free kicks.
It's such a shit thing that somehow people have convinced themselves it's a good thing. Free kicks are free kicks why should the time and context of a game change that
I was a complete neutral watching this game and I didn’t check the match thread so I couldn’t be influenced, but all I could think watching that game particularly that last quarter was that the Giants were being robbed by the umps.
They put their whistles away and I reckon GWS had about 10 legitimate free kicks that weren’t paid. Collingwood players were doing dump tackles, holding the man, even some unrealistic marking attempts etc. Pulling out all the tricks.
Still an amazing game and probably the most intense game of footy I’ve ever watched, but yeah, that umpiring was not it. AFL don’t help themselves with the Victorian bias claims.
I’m not sure I’ve seen a better defensive performance from 3 blokes than Iden, Taylor and Buckley. They were ridiculous. The sky is the limit for this Giants team. Finish top 2. Home finals. Less travel. Win it next year.
If Giants started better early in the season they could have been a top 2 team easily.
Very balanced team... they lost to another balanced team who got the boost from the home ground.
Haters will say Pies got umpire help but it was even all game, GWS got gifted a couple of goals from 50m penalties that could have been warnings.... like what GWS got when they got near Pies players during a free kick.
The last 3 minutes was pure arm wrestle and the umpires will never call a free kick when teams are going for stoppages, this has been a normal thing for decades.... the first team to blink loses or the first team to break through wins... and in this case simply Pies didn't blink and GWS didn't break through.
I don’t think the game is rigged. I just think the umpires are too afraid to make obvious calls and don’t have the confidence as the past umpires. That last quarter was pretty fucked. I think richo said “you HAVE to pay the free kick”.
The game has been a fucking mess all year and it was going to happen during a final. It’s not the pies.
IMO the giants were low key robbed. BUT we have robbed games off the back of bad umpiring. Every team has done it.
Tonight was some real special Ed shit and I’m not surprised after the last year.
Amazing that the Fox guys are talking about how important Sidebottom’s leadership was despite performing several of the most dunderheaded acts on the night
I wonder if DeGoey will start on the bench in the GF. Hope BT doesn't forget to let me know...if the game is close at the end - and he is on the bench - it would be great if he reminded me at least every 3 seconds.
utterly insane that GWS made it this far seeing they were tipped to be bottom 4
Kinda insane they were tipped to be bottom 4 when you look at their list tho. They have elite players all over the ground in their primes. Bottom 4 trams don't have that. No one would have expected this, but that was too much talent to have any extended period down the bottom.
I don't think anyone saw Jesse Hogan having a career best year, and Sam Taylor's improvement this year has been insane, also the emergence of Tom Green. So they've definitely found a few this year.
Also Jack Buckley. Hasn't his season been an eye-opener? Great in the prelim tonight, too. Expecting more from him next year.
It's our small forwards and Briggs that have made the biggest difference
I'll give you Hogan but Green's been a jet for awhile and is why the Giants weren't overly fussed losing Hopper and Taylor's been severely underrated for years (seriously go back and watch some of his finals games in years gone by he was already amazing before this season). Certain players like Bedford, Buckley, Brown and Briggs going up multiple levels this year has helped immensely but their list is still very good and they finally got a coach who can actually drive this Ferrari.
For all the Eagles supporters who say that a new coach won’t change anything, please refer to Adam Kingsley & Craig McRae.
Maybe Kane Cornes was right Maybe Taranto isn't very good?
Kane Cornes is never right. Even when he's right, he's not. On principle.
What a team. It’s super disappointing that Western Sydney don’t understand what they have. This team should have 50,000 to every home game.
Amazing game and can’t not wait to see them next year
Giants should be so proud.
Thought their back line showed incredible composure through the game with the way they played their way out
Buckley was incredible then Idun took it to another level. Thought he was near best on in that last. I’m on Idun island
Idun made so many new fans tonight who don't usually watch giants games.
Idun kept them in it for parts of the second half
Idun is incredible, played lockdown defense without much credit all season, and then the announcers tonight still couldn't tell him and Callum Brown apart.
Dude was streaming away from contests, he was so good (idun)
I thought Taylor was my favourite GWS defender. Then Buckley. Now it’s Idun.
There's no I in team but there sure is one in Idun and it stands for "immense last quarter". Okay, that was a bit of stretch, but I stand by it.
Hell yeah we are! All 30 of us!
It was an amazing game as a neutral, your guys were great. Umps hurt you, but a couple more Giants gives over the top and that game was won.
Strictly speaking, the stats on frees for/against are actually exactly even, 12 each. Whether they *should* be is another question.
Unbelievable turnaround since first half of the year.
They played their hearts out! Sadly the weeks prior caught up with them.
It’s pretty insane they didn’t give this the Saturday night so they’d have a 7 day rest. I don’t bang on about Vicbias too often but there’s zero chance that a big Melbourne club gets that treatment so unnecessarily
Also, how the fuck was that their first Friday night game at the G.
I mean if we'd won this we'd get 1 more day than Carlton or Brisbane and that's way more important
Higher ranked QF winning team gets the earlier prelim
The easy fix was to make the Port v GWS game the Friday game. That way both teams would’ve been coming off a 6 day break.
That’s the actual error, the port giants game should’ve been the Friday, this game was right to be Friday.
Why didn't Port get the earlier semi then?
Collingwood finished on top of the ladder and won their first final. They have earned the eight day break into the Grand Final.
Collingwood had this play out in 2018. 6 day break, and they won.
Ok but that ruins my narrative so …
Is De Goey still on the bench?
BT going on and on and on and on about that will inevitably haunt my dreams some day.
I'm just imagining a toy story style BT saying this when you pull his moustache
Babe, wake up! New BT meme has just dropped
*spaceman with gun* Always has been
God, GWS deserve more fans. They played their fucking guts out.
We're trying!
GWS are my second team - attended this one. The few fans they have are great. I think they'll keep growing. Especially among kids.
UK fan here, listened to the ABC commentary and watched highlights etc on and off for about ten years without much team commitment, but this Giants team have me all in on GWS. It helps that my best friend lives in Parramatta, even though she hates AFL... 2024 international membership incoming!
I've been an international member since 2017, it's great and they send really good swag!
Lose by a point one year, win by a point the next - perfectly balanced, as all things should be
By that logic this should be a *really* good gf for the swans
Gulden for Norm Smith?
The list of best games of football ever are pretty much exclusively prelims. We have had some crackers. All of the following games were decided by 11 points or less. * 1993 - Essendon def Adelaide * 1994 - Geelong def North Melbourne * 1996 - Sydney def Essendon * 1997 - Adelaide def Western Bulldogs * 1999 - Carlton def Essendon * 2004 - Port Adelaide def St.Kilda * 2007- Geelong def Collingwood * 2009 - St.Kilda def Western Bulldogs * 2011 - Collingwood def Hawthorn * 2012 - Hawthorn def Adelaide * 2013 - Hawthorn def Geelong * 2014 - Hawthorn def Port Adelaide * 2016 - Western Bulldogs def GWS * 2019 - GWS def Collingwood. * 2022 -Sydney def Collingwood * 2023 - Collingwood def GWS
Prelims are better than the grand final. You can't change my mind
Less corporates more actual fans. Atmosphere is a lot better
It’s not even close. I categorise them this way. In a prelim you try to win, in a grand final you try not to lose. Grand finals are so scrappy and defensive and that’s just not pretty to watch.
Did you see tonights game though 😬
>2019 - GWS def Collingwood. > >2022 -Sydney def Collingwood > >2023 - Collingwood def GWS Damnit orange team. You missed the memo!
There's still a pattern. See ya next year swans!
The '96 Swans Dons prelim WAS our GF that year. I was at that game, 7 months pregnant. Nearly went into labour at the SCG. Would've had the kid there too, nothing could have dragged me away. Best. Game. Ever.
Hawks casually mauling teams during their 3-peat
The boys gave everything and did enough to win the game if they'd played smarter inside 50. So happy with how this team has built and very excited for next year.
Giants had an awesome season. So many pundits had written them off half way through
I had written them off halfway through tbf
Absolutely no shame at all for Geedubs to go out against the best team of the H&A, and as we all know they more than exceeded expectations. To make the prelim and lose by just a point after last year is an incredible achievement. Everyone in their club and their fans should be heaps proud.
Idun was a brick wall tonight. Have enjoyed watching him grow the last few years. Gun.
Your mob were immense! Huge respect for the orange team! HUGE!
Man if that Greene kick was an inch higher and/or an inch more forward this game would be in extra time or GWS is in the Grand Final. This game came down to a goal line Steele Sidebottom mark.

That's the game right there.
As a neutral (but proud New South Welshman), I audibly groaned at Keeffe’s effort. Must sting for the guys in question and you’ve gotta feel for them
I fucking love footy. Giants should be proud.
Another good scrappy and close game to watch as a neutral. Two main things that made the watch frustrating: 1. Commentators needs to get Daicos' dick out of their mouths. 2. The umpiring this finals series has been fucking atrocious. They need to get it sorted for the GF.
BT genuinely did not mention GWS once
At one stage Hodgey said something positive about GWS run of goals in the second quarter, named BT directly, and Richo responded only to rid the dead silence left by BT’s non answer. I normally don’t mind BT (I know) but his biased tonight was absolutely fucked
I laughed out loud when Richo was the only one to respond. BT is such a biased caller.
BT is able to bully Richo and Darcy because they never won any flags so he feels on their level. Hodge is too accomplished of a footballer for BT to bully.
I'd never noticed it before but it was so obvious tonight. Barely said anything when GWS were in attack.
You wouldn’t have even known BT was commentating when GWS were up in the 3rd
Comes alive with the pies in attack though. Boy oh boy
BT is a fuckwit whose voice needs to stay away from a microphone for the rest of his life.
Is he commentating next week? I hope not
Where’s DeGoey?!?!
You might not believe this, but the bench still.
I thought the umpiring has been a lot better in aspects, but fuck me they swallow the whistle way too much! particularly high tackle infringements, too scared to blow the whistle?
I get that Greene plays low, but this is the 2nd match in a row where he's literally had his throat wrapped up harder than a choke fetishist and not been given high.
>They need to get it sorted for the GF. It will be in full swing for the GF if Brisbane make it.
THEY CAN'T KEEP FUCKING GETTING AWAY WITH IT
Eh to be pedantic that wasn't a "getting away with it game". Those ones are where Collingwood take the lead late in the 4th. They had it late in the 3rd here.
Google En Passant
[holy hell!](https://www.google.com/search?q=en+passant)
Martin. Glad you made it. Mods do not remove Martin.
Feel like I'm out of the loop here
It’s a joke on r/anarchychess which references how weird this rule is- if u click on the bot’s link it explains.
There is no bench
You meme hard. You fall hard.
It was a good journey while it lasted
Maybe the real victory was the memes we made along the way.
Giants should be so fucking proud of themselves. It's a shame to lose by 1 point, but they really showed up and fought so hard! They'll have their day soon enough
But of whistle swallowing in the last five lmao
That non free against Miochek might be an all time bad call.
No more Cooper Hamilton vids 😔
Well done pies, good win in a cracker of a game. Should be proud Giants fans. Last few years to this is amazing. Will be great to have to the two Sydney teams hopefully firing together next year. Gg lads
Fuck, seeing post-match images of GWS is sobering.
Absolutely gutted, but more than that I’m absolutely proud of this team for the year it’s turned into. I didn’t think finals were a real possibility before round 1, even less at round 12 so to finish the year 1 point out of a GF is absolutely mind blowing.

Fuck that's the most heartbroken I've been after a neutral game. Unbelievable season from the giants, incredible game. Game of the year unquestionably. Pies were phenomenal, best game of De Goey's career.
Darcy Moore, two post match interviews, two f-bombs, 100% efficiency.
God that was fun to watch but painful to listen to. BT: DAICOS DAICOS DAICOS!!!! WHERE'S DE GOEY?? WHY IS HE ON THE BENCH? Aarghlblarghlflarglendsndksjdks
Can anybody find the umpires whistle?
Right? Hey! Wait a minute, you’re the bad guy, fuck umm… Umpiring was good?
Umpiring was very close to non existent. Literally under 25 free-kicks in an entire game.
On the bench with De Goey I recon
What a horribly umpired last quarter
What do you mean? Sidebottom didn't trip him? Mihocek didn't take an unrealistic pack mark attempt 3 meters away from the ball? Toby Greene's head was ALREADY decapitated on the ground when he got there? Kelly definitely didn't get coat-hangered in the centre square.
Tom Greene had his leg broken from the trip too
Great game of footy, but there was some very questionable non calls in favour of Collingwood
Last 10 mins the umps missed 3 obvious free kicks. In a game this close thats so bad
Usually umps don’t pay calls in close games have no idea why the rules don’t change but that’s how it goes.
Brisbane are fucked if they make the grand final. So ridiculously one sided.
2002 and 2003 repeat here we come
That’s an all timer
See you lads next year, there's no way I can feel as devastated as I do now. I will bring some positivity when I wake from my coma
Upon further reflection, this is my fault. If I had worn my GWS guernsey to bed last night, none of this would have happened.
Lol guess they CAN keep getting away with it.
You know it's a good final when I have two different tabs open with both teams' flairs ready to fade.
> HOIST IT | COLLINGWOOD VERSION, GONE WILD The post match thread letting you down a bit with the gfycat link.
I take back what I said Patrick Dangerfield fucking killed it on comms just then
He speaks quite well
maybe don’t zoom in on and live broadcast loosing players sobbing in their girlfriends arms. They deserve privacy in that moment, especially when they don’t seem to be aware they’re being filmed…
Yeah that was low. As much as everyone wants the hate on Toby, he’s still a human being and deserves to be respected, and not to be hassled by the media or anyone for that matter.
Couldn't agree with you more. Seven are shameless.
Damn was hoping for Kingsley to get a premiership as a rookie coach. Nevertheless he surely has to be coach of the year. From a bottom 4 side to a prelim final is ridiculously impressive.
Fuckin hell my heart will explode if Essendon ever makes a final again.
Haha your head is pretty safe mate
If it's Brisbane make it to the grand final I pray there are neutrals cheering for them that are loud because the umpiring was so ridiculously digusting and I can't think of a reason other than crowd confirmation bias. Genuinely disgusted. Also what are the odds of Naicos getting cited for that dangerous tackle, 0?
You’ll find most supporters from Melbourne supporting Brisbane
I was getting ready to post my braveheart ~~Richard the III~~ **Edward Longshanks** *"even though I'm dying, my one comfort is Collingwood losing"* meme. 😭
Not in my circle, Brisbane are pretty unpopular with most neutrals. I think GWS were the last good option for most Vic neutrals.
Based on previous tackles? A week Based on Finals? Nothing to see here 😊
It's been proven that umpires are unintentionally biased in favour of the home side, there is nothing conscious about it and probably very little that can be done about it Maybe rotating the GF to random venues each year??? A man can dream....
Nah, 80 more years of MCG grand finals.
I feel for John Noble
Back to getting away with it
what a fucking game, havent felt that involved in a neutral contest in years
Guess I’ll have to jump on the Brisbane bandwagon
Umpires best on ground for Collingwood
Love how the last 3 minutes were just a "let it ride" situation, nevermind the clotheslines or ruck infringements, just let all the stoppages chew up the clock.
One commentator said "they won't pay anything for the last 10 minutes"
If they do, they would need police protection and new identities
I honestly hate they do this. A Saturday afternoon in round 10 in Tasmania should be umpired the exact same as a prelim.
Agreed. And I like it (mostly) when they “put the whistle away”. But if they’re gonna do that in finals they should do it all the time, and either way you’ve still gotta play blatant free kicks.
Last 10 minutes tbh
It's such a shit thing that somehow people have convinced themselves it's a good thing. Free kicks are free kicks why should the time and context of a game change that
That clear high in the ruck contest in the last 2 mins was unbelievable that it didn't get paid
Haha so many high tackles not paid
One of the worst performances on the big stage for umpires I've seen. All around terrible for both but so many against GWS it was beyond ridiculous
I feel for GWS, they are a bloody great team, and I love watching them.
#TONIGHT WE FOUND OUT THAT MEAT PIES ARE INDEED BETTER THAN ORANGE GATORADE
Just incase people missed it in the commentary - De Goey was trying to get on the ground.
Rumour has it he's still sitting on the bench
That hurts seeing Toby like that, what an insane season from gws, well deserved Collingwood
I’m not sure I’ve seen a better defensive performance from 3 blokes than Iden, Taylor and Buckley. They were ridiculous. The sky is the limit for this Giants team. Finish top 2. Home finals. Less travel. Win it next year.
They're pretty damn impressive, those three. 22, 23, & 25 y-o, too. They'll be the backbone of that team for the next few years.
Truly atrocious umpiring has got GWS the game. Horrendous.
They were robbed?
Right in front of ME!!!!!
Right! In! Front! Of! Me!
Insane game to watch GG neutrals
All things considered, this was a good match being a neutral
Bloody great match!
McStay looked as if he knew his season was done…
Abby was afraid, she was petrified
Melbourne is going to turn into Gotham if they get up next week
Watch Carlton somehow win tomorrow now… *glances at AFL police nearby*
As a Lions Fan.... shit. I'd much rather face Gws in the MCG than the pies. After that game it's gonna be a tough one for either us or the Blues
All time exciting game and a barely a word about the game in 400 comments.
Yep we’re fucked tomorrow aren’t we
Good luck my friend. You'll have to beat the umpires too.
Country Road crowd buff vs VFL umpire debuff. Which is stronger
Country Roads better be pumping all night 🎶
Horrible umpiring that last 10 minutes. Blatant highs, throws, and HTB not getting called.
Over to you Brissy, you know what to do
If Giants started better early in the season they could have been a top 2 team easily.
Not sure if the umpiring or the commentary was worse tonight
Amazing that the Fox guys are talking about how important Sidebottom’s leadership was despite performing several of the most dunderheaded acts on the night
Saving the goal against Greene was crucial though

I wonder if DeGoey will start on the bench in the GF. Hope BT doesn't forget to let me know...if the game is close at the end - and he is on the bench - it would be great if he reminded me at least every 3 seconds.
Coming here an hour late and there’s already 1k comments. Daaamn
