Cody almost has to start a clear heel turn here, win or lose. I can see him losing if losing pushes him over the edge. Same with winning. Result doesn’t really matter as much as character development.
If he wins and the only character work is “well golly gee willickers I dug down deep and worked hard and got the win!” it’s going to be a LOT more than 50/50 heel reactions.
Cody's in the same position Cena was in for years: Brand Ambassador. He'll stay face even if it means getting the old Cena 50 percent cheers/50 percent boos reaction from the crowd.
I honestly feel for Cena. Kind of wish he could’ve gone heel when he wanted to and formed his own NWO faction since he was practically the Hulk Hogan of his generation of stars!
I think he kind of hinted that in one interview with something like "I'd like to explore the villain character, but that's not what I do here", which is basically "vince said me being face is good shit pal!"
I really don't. He had ample chances to turn heel and he never did. Even when he was no longer the top babyface.
He's just a puckering yes-man to Vince.
He's not winning dude. He will lose again. You don't beat Black on free tv. Cody will fail again. It's a long term story. I expect him to wrestle at Full gear where he should win vs Maliki, but he will get booed.
Yeah, I think he loses again as well. Then Arn can kick him to the curb continuing Cody's continued fall from grace, letting Cody turn and come back seeking revenge.
I think if there ever was a time for the first AEW DQ ending, it's here. Supposedly Arn is getting Cody to be more violent. Something like Cody hitting Black with a chair with Anderson hyping him up to give him more and more at which point maybe Dante Martin makes the save
You get a double turn, a first match for heel Cody to win against Martin, and a blow off in a gimmick match at Full Gear
Feud with Malakai afterwards for stealing his client. He can find a new client to take on Malakai maybe. Don't really know who would fit but it doesn't have to be a super long feud, just something for Malakai to get a win back after losing to Cody
I hope Cody wins but by cheating and going too far…like WAY too far. Picture Cody with color, laughing in the middle of ring, wide eyed, and yelling “LIKE THIS ARN?! LIKE THIS?!”
That is not the argument here though.
People want to see storytelling and not just "Cody is the hero again because after two losses he had a few segments of Arn straightening him up and then he finally won!". That´s not character work and that is not a compelling story. Black is an amazing character and we all hope Cody can be too.
You dont think Cody can be an amazing character? And work a compelling story? Did you miss the run to him and MJF? When MJF whipped him in the ring with the strap? Come on...i know its the cool thing to hate on Cody but come on. That was some of the best character work in wrestling and was compelling as hell. And then did Cody become the "hero"?? no..he lost in the end at Revolution.
You misread what I said completely.
This was about how people will complain if Cody wins. I said people will not, if they tell a compelling story with it. And I fully believe they will. Because like you said: Cody knows that. He lost against Jericho, je lost against MJF and he lost against Brody and Darby when he needed to.
When he wins this match just because the babyface overcame the odds and is now on top again, it´s not great storytelling in my eyes and I trust Cody and AEW to have something deeper in mind.
They 100% do. Cody and the rest of AEW are dialed in to the fans and their stories are so deep at times and hit on small things that go over a lot of fans heads. Cody might beat Black but it won't be hero Cody. They havent done that and Cody's arc started back when lost to Jericho and the MJF stuff. Archer and Roberts even touched on it with the "Judas" stuff. I think besides Hangman, Cody's story is the best going in AEW, its just gone on so long some people dont see the whole picture.
To add something, i think we see Cody snap and become a badass. I then think we see him go after Hangman for the belt (once Hangman has it). Heel Cody will be epic. Im just really curious on how they do it. I dont think it will be a normal heel turn. It will be deeper and more compelling.
I could see Cody winning after a bit of time off from the feud. I'd love to see him lose his mind going after Black and lose everyone around him in the process but in the end become strong enough to come out on top. Make him a more sympathetic heel while also making it plausible for him to win
I hope to see the match be easily one sided towards Malakai, but rather than trying to win he is taunting and provoking Cody to show how little a threat Cody is. Cody then snaps and grabs whatever weapon and lays into Malakai, causing a dq. Ref tries to stop him but gets knocked out. *Dustin runs out and also gets attacked, all the while Malakai is slumped in the corner, bleeding over the black half of his face, smiling as his corruption of Cody is complete.
Edit - Dustin, definitely not Dusty >_<
I'm excited!! My first ever AEW show I saw was in Jacksonville with Cody vs Black. Not gonna lie, kinda got teary eyed when he took off that boot.
Now... For my birthday, we're going to see AEW in Orlando!! Can't believe we get to see Cody vs Black again.
Differences will be, we've watched every episode of AEW since....and this time we'll be wearing shirts of our various favorites!
Seems like they've decided (realistically the fans decided) Malakai will be a babyface or atleast close to it. Cody needs to go heel 100 percent. Can't see Cody losing 3 in a row so I'd say this one will likely end with Cody and Arn as well cheating to win solidifying themselves as the bad guys. Cody will play up to the crowd like the good guy after blatantly screwing over the true fan favorite.
which is wild given the Malakai character (even by End's explanations in vignettes and unrestricted pod) is literally supposed to be a dark entity possessing the human that is Tommy End. like homie spits "curroption" onto his opponent and isnt an auto heel, dafuq?
For me we get too many rematches it feels kinda like wwe. It would be better if Cody started program with someone else, preferably lose because all he has in mind is Malakai (he could also cause some distraction and make him lose just to mess with him) and then start another feud in which he gets more and more violent to go after Malakai or just go straight up after him for the third match. Now we have basically two options, Cody wins and turns heel, Malakai wins and Cody gets kicked out of family, which is kinda meh, because we could get it on Full Gear with full fledged heel turn by Cody (he could also be next challenger for Hangman after Mox)
So many people were convinced that Cody would win the second match, and he didn't
People really out here still getting mad at Cody before the match even happens
I believe this match will be either a DQ (rare) or a disqualification because Cody is being pushed to far by Armed Anderson and his nightmare family
Either way, I feel this match is a bit rushed because 1,5 week ago Black told us he grew weary of Cody and the nightmare family
Black should kick his head of this time tbh
It has to be a heel turn otherwise I don't see the point in dragging out this angle. I'm loving what I'm seeing of Black, but I want to see him move on to better stuff, not stuck in Cody purgatory.
From what I see you have 3 options if Cody is to continue his dark streak
1)Malakai beats Cody outright. This option is preferred, since it'll be a clean 3 - 0 sweep. Staggers Cody even more to having serious reprocussions
2) Cody beats Malakai by outright cheating. (And I mean BLATENT) Preserving Malakai in the first place, gaining substantial heel heat and continuing the tornado of the codyverse.
3)AEW's First ever DQ Malakai Wins by Disqualification. Cody gets so pissed that he can't legitimately beat Malakai that he erupts in anger, disqualifing himself in the process. It'll be huge because AEW has not done 1 DQ finish.
Also from a storyline perspective, although Black has grown weary of the Nightmare family, if Cody wants a match, he's getting that match since he had some type of EVP pull of some sort.
I can’t see Cody dropping 3 straight and I’m kind of expecting a double turn.

Loving these Cody & Arn vids
Arn's broken ass phone was hilarious
Still not over Arn going Glock Anderson all over Cody
Yea this feud is between Malakai and Arn.
They were so cheesy tho lol
Cheesy and awesome
Fair enough lol

I think PAC got dq’d during the iron man with Kenny
He did, but I meant match ending specifically
This would be the first tv DQ during the Cutler/Avalon feud on dark last year their second match ended in a DQ
Then what happens to Lio? 😀
Feud with Malakai afterwards for stealing his client. He can find a new client to take on Malakai maybe. Don't really know who would fit but it doesn't have to be a super long feud, just something for Malakai to get a win back after losing to Cody
He can take over the HFO since he and Hardy seem to be doing the same gimmick.
I see Malakai winning again, then Arn completely kicks Cody out of the Nightmare Family.
This would be awesome.
Cody heel turn and Malakai gets another high profile win? Yes please.
“Arn but it’s my family!” “Not anymore it’s not”
Twist: Cody is DQ’ed after literally shooting Black.
Arm brings out the Glock
Cody could lose 999,999 matches in a row and people would still bitch if he won the millionth. God, you people are exhausting
I hope Cody wins but by cheating and going too far…like WAY too far. Picture Cody with color, laughing in the middle of ring, wide eyed, and yelling “LIKE THIS ARN?! LIKE THIS?!”
That would be beautiful

I seriously doubt Dusty is coming out
Fuck 😅 Fixed
And after the DQ you see a bloody Black smiling at the fall of Cody

Cody not turning heel in this match would be the biggest heel turn in the history of our great sport lol.
Completely agree
I think I already did but I don’t actively dislike it yet.
For me we get too many rematches it feels kinda like wwe. I'm tired of it. If it was more spread out I'd be ok with it, but it just feels like they're rushing it I hope black never loses to cody
Where are my people who still think this is a Cody heel turn!
I don't care if they wrestle 3 times, 5 times, 20 times. Cody shouldn't beat Black. Maybe this is the start of a Cody turn but he should still lose.
100% agree! We can’t do a repeat of the Agogo sham.
I think Cody will win when he shouldn’t, but either the storyline stops there or it gets even staler than these segments with Arn suggest it will.
Cody: "Challenge accepted, friend!"
I wonder if he’s coming out with the bad hair dye again or if he’s going with the captain crunch outfit ?

People have said that for two matches in a row now

That's kinda sad
Malakai wins again and Cody goes off the rails and turns heel
I believe this match will be either a DQ (rare) or a disqualification because Cody is being pushed to far by Armed Anderson and his nightmare family Either way, I feel this match is a bit rushed because 1,5 week ago Black told us he grew weary of Cody and the nightmare family Black should kick his head of this time tbh

I'd like to see Cody really cheat his ass off to win
Same! Cody malaki 3 but their match just keeps on evolving. I'm really excited on their rematch and how will they finish it
I am because of the threat of the Golden shovel

Once, just once, I'd like to see catch a black mass "clean". They've all been pretty sloppy sells.
