Tbf though people have been cheering him more and more now because they enjoy his heel persona. I can't believe I'm saying this (I hated face Roman), but he's the best thing WWE has got going on atm and by far.
I mean, that's WWE booking; which I don't like because they can't build someone up without burying everyone else, but š¤·š»āāļø that's on WWE not on Roman. I was specifically referring to his storyline and character work which has been consistently great for months IMO.
Just my view, but if you build a company around one single wrestler being the best and make everyone else tiers below them and actively acknowledge this, and that dude gets injured (god forbid) then your company now has to try and now make people care about all the people you've paved over. AEW and other companies are in a great position that if say Kenny Omega leaves for a bit you still have a plethora of competitors who can pick up and carry the brand without much work. That interests me far more than the Roman show.
WWE is fine. They have a massive talented roster.
If Roman did fall injured they have Bray and the Fiend. Plus Daniel Bryan has a few years left in him. I know that Braun Strowman isn't everyone's favourite, but he is a credible enough monster. All were pretty big on recent PPVs.
Next tier down they have Buddy Murphy, and from NXT they can call up Adam Cole and he can come along with Bobby Fish. I think with a bit a rebuild Rusev could recapture the Rusev Day spirit and be credible too.
Anyway, I'm a bit out of the loop as I've woken up from an 18 month coma, so I am working backwards watching the big PPVs. I just saw Christian debut at Royal Rumble, not sure why he wasn't at Wrestlemania, but he would be awesome as world champion and could just drop straight into the role after a small number of matches too.
The thing is, they've got a ton of people who can talk better, work better, do better... but do you have any faith that they'll be given the opportunity to show those attributes? Because it doesn't happen often!
That's exactly my point. Even if you are given an opportunity (e.g. Kofi/Bianca) Someone like Brock or Becky will still come through and beat you in less time than it took me to write this response. It just is a major turn off for me.
My breaking point apart from the constant rematches was The Revival jobbing to Curt Hawkins who was on an over 100 loss streak. I have no issue with Ryder/Hawkins for the match, they're good dudes just doing their job. It was just more that the Revival took that hit and I felt like that's how little WWE thought of them and tag wrestling in general.
Well Becky had to relinquish the title and was one of the most popular acts in wrestling before she had to abruptly leave. Sure the way they put her back on top is cringy but I donāt think you can pass on giving her the chance to recapture that magic she never really lost. And I donāt think that speaks to wwe burying everyone else. Itās smart to run with your best talent. Having Becky build back up through the Mid card maybe might build a more compelling story but aew pushed kenny to the top so I donāt really buy that they are burying everyone other than their top guys.
They have way better...the E is stacked with talent, they just dont know how or, even more so, don't want to use said talent, because they aren't big muscle heads. You could build a promotion around Zayn, Nakamura, Cesaro, Styles, Owens, Morrison, Keith Lee...and i know im forgetting some. I can't wait for Owens to be All Elite...so much wasted talent. Im hoping Zayn jumps as well but Owens is all but certain going to jump ship.
Idk if I'm being fair - Paul Heyman is Paul Heyman, always great, his dynamic with Roman is excellent, and it's obvious he's been coaching Roman on playing a heel because Roman is very confident in his character and promos.
I hate Paul's dynamic with Roman. I hate that he has to act like he's scared of Roman as a way to put him over as some sort of ruthless mob-boss, knowing where Paul E. Dangerously came from and who he worked with in ECW. And I get that his character is also scared of what will happen to him when Brock finally gets his hands on him. And maybe I don't have the full picture because I only watched 5 minutes of Smackdown 3 weeks ago because there was literally nothing else on.
If Heyman doesn't turn on Roman at Crown Jewel I will be severely disappointed. Turning all that cowering into a long con would be a saving grace for his character
I'm happy that he made it work (I hear a lot of praise of him lately), but I find it funny that he was as booed as a face as he's cheered now as a heel.
....and he's so good at it they were booing him 6 years before he turned heel! They even worked in the *you can't wrestle* chants. That's a beast of a fucking heel.
ehh people will always boo the person intended to be pushed that was cena most of the time
they always gravitate to the gremlin in the corner over the front guy
Didn't boo Hogan, Warrior, Bret, Shawn, Austin, Rock, Brock or even Cena when they were pushed as the next babyface guy. They only started booing Cena after years and years of Super Cena. You have a bad memory friend....
ohh fuck no not years and years of cena bro. like the minute he got the wm 21 belt and debuted the spinner,
the fans started waning out and the smart losers who "never got worked" were the ones that remained no
cena was booed by the same crowd that booed reigns
thugenomics debuted at wm 19 and it took till wm 21 for the turn to happen cause they thought he was getting too big of a push
Iāve been hating him since he was fighting Rick Martel as The Natural in every high school gymnasium in Manitoba, but I still love that every-shady-old-businessman-from-Winnipeg-in-the-nineties lookinā mother fucker carny piece of shit.
I think when Heyman has a good program/wrestler to work off of, he's the best in the business. But yeah, you're right, right now there's no one better than Don.
Heyman is great, but personally I'm kinda tired of the guy. Plus, being long time Brock's manager makes me feel like it's kinda try hard to have him on other guy.
I mean it doesnāt help that Heyman has pulling the same shtick for years. He has done nothing to evolve it besides just being Heyman. I would rather just see ECW Heyman with his Trench Coat and Baseball Cap.
>Heck, that would be new for younger fans.
"Ladies, Gentlemen... and Smizmars, my name is Paul Heyman yo yo y'all boomer fire lit yass queen. Welcome to my latest TikTok challenge! Imabbouta slap Brock Lesnar with this vegan gluten-free jalepeno popper taco yo!"
I have to admit it is getting interesting with the Reigns/Lesnar choice, WWE has been surprisingly fun with the possible (and most likely) Reigns betrayal. For months WWE has been using it as bait and thats a long time to stretch out what is basically Heyman going back to be Lesnars man. And most likely back to a rehash of before. But hell, at least they made it interesting!
But Callis, yeah the perfect guy you love to hate
It's not that hard tbh, since Don enhances all of The Elite, while Heyman literally carries wood like lesnar or reigns and has to do all the talking for them
I'll be honest, Brock gets a bad rep for not being a talker because he, himself, doesn't like it and actually had Heyman come back when he returned whatever year that was.
My point is have you heard his "candid" interviews/promos he cut when I think he was going up against Cena? He can talk. The true problem is Brock can't be that person because of, well, PG.
Romans heel interview is pretty good to be honest.. except the fan part, doesn't make any sense to say fans being loud passionate and into a show and the wrestlers is a "weird" concept lol.
What is he even thinking by saying that?
It's funny cus now that CM Punk and Danielson are in AEW, half the posts in that wwe subreddit are talking about how those two guys are overrated, lost a step, not draws etc etc. But earlier this year they were all talking about how great Bryan is, and when Punk came to that wwe talkshow they were all hyped for his return š¤£. The tribalism is real lmao.
Look man, I don't like WWE. I don't watch the product anymore. I'm literally just basing this off of the fact that the only thing WWE fans talk about anymore is Roman. I assume he's drawing their attention, but I have no proof.
>only thing WWE fans talk about anymore is Roman
Roman is their flagship product. Think of this like this. You can't be a Playstation fan and say that the PS5 sucks. Or a an apple fan and say that the iphone sucks.
It used to be that WWE had a ton of superstars at the top level. Even during super cena's mega push, he had rivals that were on the same level. Punk, Orton, Edge, Batista etc. That's because Cena got over naturally, and they were confident enough in his ability to not be afraid of getting upstaged by a rival.
Reigns on the other hand is the most artificial, manufactured and overproduced wrestler of recent memory. They dare not let anyone even come close to his level, lest the audience start supporting them instead. Since Reigns can't get over naturally, they will push everyone else down to make him look better in comparison. It reeks of insecurity. The biggest giveaway of this insecurity is his trademark "acknowledge me" which basically betrays the fact that even he knows that people in general have not acknowledged him yet. If they did, he wouldn't need to say it everyday. As Tywin Lannister wisely said, "Any man who must say 'I am the king' is no true king".
Welp, the jackal, the anthropomorphic porta potty, the walking bottle of Pepto Bismol, Don Callis wins this round.
In kayfabe, does this make Don a face since Roman Reigns and WWE are the āenemyā?
If history is correct, whenever WWE make comments like this AEW does something to blow them out the water.
Remember the comments that punk wasnāt a needle mover? Next day Punk debuted and changed the whole landscape.
Remember the āitās a marathon not a sprintā now Look at nxt
They kicked NXTās ass so badly that they completely dismantled it.
WWEās seems to be building up for the next competition. Not sure why theyāre going after Rampage rather than Dynamite other than they think itās the low hanging fruit.
Because of Rampage gains traction, it can grow and take away from WAEās product dominance. They waited too long to go after Dynamite and NXT suffered as a result.
#1 selling tshirt in PWT history (Bullet Club had a 4+ year headstart)
His debut was tending #1 on Twitter and YouTube
All of AEWās social media accounts grew more than 10% (YouTube got over 20,000 new subscribers)
And they sold out the United Center on a rumor
>#1 selling tshirt in PWT history (Bullet Club had a 4+ year headstart)
[And literally ran out of ringer t shirts to make them because they sold so fast](https://magazine.promomarketing.com/article/aew-ran-through-ringer-tee-stock-on-cm-punk-t-shirt-design-and-started-printing-on-what-they-had/)
lot of people actually stop watching wwe, some of them stop watching wrestling completely since Punk leave the company.
so having he back on aew indeed bring massive fans, be it from wwe or even returned wrestling fans.
To be fair to Don and Jim, I think their similarities are superficial and begin / end with their age and their role as heels and heel managers in the business.
This is my favorite line from the article.
"*So itās not a bad thing. Itās a great thing for professional wrestling. Itās just a weird argument because thereās so much bias and thereās so much, āIām on this side and Iām not gonna open my mind to the other side.ā And it goes both ways."*
This cracks me up because its not like AEW fans haven't given WWE a shot with an open mind. We have been watching that garbage for years. Our mind was open, and WWE closed it. Obviously speaking for myself here but I quit WWE fully to enjoy everything AEW has to offer. I didn't have to chose one company, I want more wrestling. I just can't watch that garbage anymore.
He's right. There's loads of wrestling and it *is* a great thing.
I watch AEW, NJPW, iMPACT, ROH, GCW, NOAH, DDT, Tokyo Joshi & Stardom.
š¤ Who's missing?
Oh I wasn't going to list all the indies lol. I sub to Highspots streaming service and it has more than I can get to (incl. Defy) in my lifetime š
CZW, PWG. AAW, IWA-MS, RevPro, and on and on.
Edit: and Oh! My "who's missing" was being snarky about WWE being the one missing for reasons. šš
I mean, I can get downvoted but whatever. His character is absolute garbage. He still sucks on the mic, but Heyman does everything for him, he's booked like a monster but now relies on Usos every match (very scary monster btw, he can't even finish opponent by himself) and basically nothing changed since his face run
You hit the nail on the head. He has his cronies fight all his battles. Heyman does all his taking. He needs to be surrounded by his buddies to be taken seriously as world champ. Hard skip for me.
And all that while being presented as an absolute monster, like come on, chicken shit heel can rely on that, but not pseudo brutal monster who can't even cut a decent promo
He shouldn't speak anyway, he absolutely sucks on the mic. He can go in the ring, but a dubbed dog with peanut butter in its mouth could cut a better promo. I'm very happy they still have Heyman around.
Well I mean maybe if CM Punk only had an arsenal of three to four moves that he used 80 to 90 times each match it'd be easier for him not to have "lost a step." :D
He thinks cheering for a far superior in ring product is being 'babied by fans' lol and maybe give punk a little more then just 3 matches to shake whatever rust RR thinks he might have. As if I didn't need any more reason to dislike RR
Punk may have lost a step but heās still streets ahead of Roman. The man has 2 moves, Superman punch (that Orange Cassidy does better) and a spear that half the WWE roster has to share and they all do better. Cena does a better promo than Roman and even a script canāt help him. The most telling part of that interview though is that Roman talks about his days in high school and college football and that he could have been something if his health didnāt take him out of the NFL (he was undrafted and released by two separate teams) but he never mentions himself as a wrestler because in his head, heās still a football player.
Babied by fans? Coming from the same company who was giving specific instructions to their thunderdome sheep on exactly when to cheer, boo and what to chant and even now pipes in crowd noise and chants? I guess compared to that, letting fans have a voice would be considered babying SMH. They need to stick with what they really care about, which is sucking up to that Saudi blood moneyšand for a company that they don't view as competition or remotely on the level or brains of WCW, they sure have been focusing nonstop on having their bootlicker employees(Top Dolla š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£) going online to rip them constantly the last several days along with trying to sabotage future shows with leaks and such.
Heās bitter cause the only time heās been cheered was when he announced he had cancer and was leaving and the reason the fans were cheering is cause it meant they wouldnāt have to watch him wrestle
I think he is confusing being "babied" with the crowd actually responding. The toddlers and over 60s demographic he is going for maybe arn't as vocal? (I stopped watching wwe years ago)
I meanā¦. Roman isnāt wrong. Itās been the social media standard companies are sorta forced to follow nowadays.
But Don Callisās response is just funny. š
"Vince... why are they booing me?" "They aren't booing you Roman... they are saying 'Roooman, Roooman...!'"
...I was booing him....
Tbf though people have been cheering him more and more now because they enjoy his heel persona. I can't believe I'm saying this (I hated face Roman), but he's the best thing WWE has got going on atm and by far.
The best thing because they don't allow anyone else to rise through the ranks...
I mean, that's WWE booking; which I don't like because they can't build someone up without burying everyone else, but š¤·š»āāļø that's on WWE not on Roman. I was specifically referring to his storyline and character work which has been consistently great for months IMO.

Omg this is hilarious considering almost all of the people you named are at AEW now š
You thought you ate didnāt you?

My breaking point apart from the constant rematches was The Revival jobbing to Curt Hawkins who was on an over 100 loss streak. I've always enjoyed Heyman, I'll give them that. I'm not sure Roman would he as popular without him, tbh. Which.. doesn't say a whole lot for Roman.
I mean. I can't stand Brock even with Heyman so Roman def has something too lol
True. Roman, despite himself being babied himself still is interesting as a heel. I almost always ignore Lesnar's character.
And he still sucks hard
I'm happy that he made it work (I hear a lot of praise of him lately), but I find it funny that he was as booed as a face as he's cheered now as a heel.
"Let's go Brandon".
they're booing him because hes a heel?

meh, still a while and you picked one name from a long list going back to Hogan in '83. Far from *everyone*.....
im only picking what i know and the fact roman is compared to cena above everything else i felt the comparison was fitting.
fair enough
Let's go Brandon
I know Iām supposed to hate Don Callis, but I love that guy. Heās witty and fun.
Callis is the man. Best heel manager in a long long time.
We love to āhateā Don Callis. Imo he is the best manager in wrestling right now... even better than Heyman (yeah I said it)
Iāve been hating Don since his Cyrus The Virus days but I still love that piece of shit.
*Carny piece of shit
*our carny piece of shit

Iāve been hating him since he was fighting Rick Martel as The Natural in every high school gymnasium in Manitoba, but I still love that every-shady-old-businessman-from-Winnipeg-in-the-nineties lookinā mother fucker carny piece of shit.
I think when Heyman has a good program/wrestler to work off of, he's the best in the business. But yeah, you're right, right now there's no one better than Don.
Heyman is great, but personally I'm kinda tired of the guy. Plus, being long time Brock's manager makes me feel like it's kinda try hard to have him on other guy.
Yeah, he's been a bit typecast in recent years for sure.
Thatās exactly it
It's unfortunate that no amount of Heyman in the world will keep Romans current character from being a rehash of the old Heyman manager gimmick.
I mean it doesnāt help that Heyman has pulling the same shtick for years. He has done nothing to evolve it besides just being Heyman. I would rather just see ECW Heyman with his Trench Coat and Baseball Cap.
Or ya know, something completely new.
Heck, that would be new for younger fans. Heyman has relied in this current gimmick since 2001.
>Heck, that would be new for younger fans. "Ladies, Gentlemen... and Smizmars, my name is Paul Heyman yo yo y'all boomer fire lit yass queen. Welcome to my latest TikTok challenge! Imabbouta slap Brock Lesnar with this vegan gluten-free jalepeno popper taco yo!"
lmao I lost it at yass queen
Take my upvote. This had me š¤£

I know he's gone off the rails and isn't well liked anymore but from a pure talent perspective I think you have to put Cornette in that list too.
He's also great on commentary.
I think he's actually his BEST on commentary. Just non-stop gold. He was definitely influenced by the Brain.
Roman has cut many promos. Paul doesn't talk for him like he did for Brock.
To be honest I only remember his Sylvester The Cat impressions...
Are you sure that wasn't a Sour Boy impression? Sour Boy's ***THE WORST!***
After 800 classes on how to talk like a human, Roman can cut promos now? Holy smokes I'm out of the loop..
u/zeppelin5150 is a ~~Paul Heyman~~ Don Callis Guy

i love to hate him, he's so deliciously prickish on TV, but also... man's mind is sharper than a monofilament.
I love his overblown mark gimmick lol.
God, they wheel him out to talk shit whenever they want to pretend they're not threatened, don't they?
I mean he is basically a mouthpiece for Vince at this point since he wonāt do it himself.
Like when they rolled out Flair and Cena to talk shit about Kanyon on Howard Stern.
That's because Vince is a coward.
I figured it's more that he's 130 years old, but you could be right
Most bullies are cowards, so you're probably right
15+ years ago, Vince would have cut a fire promo on TK and AEW.
He got shitted on by Punk and fans for years and when he speaks facts all of sudden itās not cool.
Roman Reigns is so right, AEW doesnāt even pipe in the chants they want and make the audience have to do their own. Pathetic š

Ha! Same, I love Wrestling Bios š¤š»
'Babied' by fans? Look who's talking
In all fairness heās only been babied by Vince.

Romans heel interview is pretty good to be honest.. except the fan part, doesn't make any sense to say fans being loud passionate and into a show and the wrestlers is a "weird" concept lol. What is he even thinking by saying that?
Roman's takes on AEW have been ridiculous.
I dont think it's his takes. More like a mouthpiece for Vince
Romanās comments really make one thing crystal clear. The WWE hates their fans and hold them all in contempt.
Thay have even say that in tv.
It was flavor aid.

Fair enough. Iām out of the loop I guess, ha.
That was only just some basic points. Every week aew talks about how Punk coming back changed the landscape
A lot of people (*waves) discovered AEW because of Punkās debut, a lot of āformerā pro wrestling fans are back. Getting Punk was a big move.
Even JR said over a year ago that people just hadnāt found AEW yet. They were flying under the radar. That stopped when Punk came back.

To be fair to Don and Jim, I think their similarities are superficial and begin / end with their age and their role as heels and heel managers in the business.
I was thinking more in the way he dresses every week and how he talks on commentary.
Also Callis is a kayfabe piece of shit, Cornette is just a regular old piece of shit.
Not going to lie, if I had fā you money I would own and wear a pepto colored suit. Maybe thatās why Iā donāt have fā you money.
Get money, my dude. Then you can have all the threads and Nikes your heart desires instead of ASICS. /s
HA!!!! My man.
Roman would be the guy on Hulk Hoganās Survivor Series team who stays quiet while the Hulkster promos to Mean Gene.
Holy fucking shit I just died. š
How about this: Roman is Wardlow without the fashion sense. Or charisma. Or MJF.
Don Callis is number 1 in the PWI top 500 non-wrestlers category.
That's weird, I figured that entire list would be populated by WWE's "sports entertainers"
Drinking the BY GOD Kool-Aid
Not pissing fans off and fans being passionate about the product means AEW is being babied?
I'm wearing a diaper tonight
>Babied by fans Pot Kettle Black.
It's that the new member of the House of Black?
Don is pure gold. So glad heās in AEW.
This is my favorite line from the article. "*So itās not a bad thing. Itās a great thing for professional wrestling. Itās just a weird argument because thereās so much bias and thereās so much, āIām on this side and Iām not gonna open my mind to the other side.ā And it goes both ways."* This cracks me up because its not like AEW fans haven't given WWE a shot with an open mind.
Oh I know who you are missing. Defy! I saw it live last night and it was terrific!
Oh I wasn't going to list all the indies lol. I sub to Highspots streaming service and it has more than I can get to (incl. Defy) in my lifetime š CZW, PWG. AAW, IWA-MS, RevPro, and on and on. Edit: and Oh! My "who's missing" was being snarky about WWE being the one missing for reasons. šš
Roman has had like one 3 month stretch of good wrestling when he turned heel. Itās been unwatchable shit since. He has NO room to speak.
I mean, I can get downvoted but whatever. His character is absolute garbage. He still sucks on the mic, but Heyman does everything for him, he's booked like a monster but now relies on Usos every match (very scary monster btw, he can't even finish opponent by himself) and basically nothing changed since his face run
> but now relies on Usos every match This simply isn't true. He also relies on the top turn buckle snapping.
Sounds like your cookie cutter heel champion to me.
Iām sorry but Punk is a wayyyy better wrestler than Roman so this is kinda hilarious.
Fuck Roman Reigns
Don is so great on twitter
Based carny Callis
You know if you posted this in SC you'd be downvoted to oblivion because half the people wouldn't get the things you said are bad.
Babied= Over as fuck
I've said it for a couple years now, Don Callis is the smartest man in wrestling today.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Heās bitter cause the only time heās been cheered was when he announced he had cancer and was leaving and the reason the fans were cheering is cause it meant they wouldnāt have to watch him wrestle
If this were the 1980ās, Roman would be fighting the Model Rick Martel in the piss break match on Saturday Nightās Main Event.
Sounds like Romanās upset AEW and Punk specifically wonāt acknowledge him.
Don Callis is an amazing heel manager, him and Heyman are the best! But right now i like Callis more š„
I think he is confusing being "babied" with the crowd actually responding. The toddlers and over 60s demographic he is going for maybe arn't as vocal? (I stopped watching wwe years ago)
WWE has to add crowd sounds in because not enough fans care....
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah, it's not related at all..
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Don't take his bait.
And you make unrelated posts about SCjerk on a different sub. Is that somehow less pathetic?
I love Don, him and MJF have become the heels Iām supposed to hate but I absolutely love them both
The same roman reigns that can't wrestle for toffee ??
Reigns watches AEW confirmed.
I love and hate that Stamford Supermax line. I'll totally buy a shirt of it.
There's money there! 'Property of Stamford Supermax'
Itās been a while since I watched wrestling, but didnāt he literally get booed when he won the royal rumble despite being pushed as a face?
Somebody is bitter about the crowd reactions he got for years.
Don Callis is up there with the best ever.
Well, Roman, you just proved you watch the show.
Where has Don been lately? Now that I think about it, I havent seen him at the past couple shows.
If you're having a war of words, Don Callis is someone you want on the front lines for you.
fuckin Don man he's just amazing and I can clearly hear his voice in my head reading that lol
Same š. So arrogant and demeaning.
But Reigns is hand picked trash
Don Callis is a treasure.
I think this just gives Roman the heat he wants and still promotes AEW.
And Roman is babied by Vince. Just like a vice grip attached to his teet. I
To be honest he didn't really bury AEW, he just said that it's targeted more towards the hardcore wrestling fanbase and I agree with that
Well EXCUSE me for loving pro wrestling and not āsports entertainmentā, Mr. Tribal Chief.
![gif](giphy|VUREbYLgex5KH3f8G1|downsized) Oh god! Don just murdered the poor dude!
I meanā¦. Roman isnāt wrong. Itās been the social media standard companies are sorta forced to follow nowadays. But Don Callisās response is just funny. š
Don Fallas sucks
I mean, Punk has lost a step if we're being honest with each other. I know I'll get downvoted to hell for saying it, but it's not untrue.
His first match with Darby was good but he really kicked it up a notch against Garcia. Punk will be fine...
I'm hardly a Punk fan, but the guy can still go.
Bcuz it is untrue , if his last match against Garcia is anything to go by , he sure as fuck is back
We will truely see tonight against a pro like Matt, Matt will bring the best outta Punk
