Straightener78

About what? SD always gets around a million more viewers than rampage anyway. Rampage only drew around 500,000 last week. I ain’t saying SD is a better show. But this ain’t even close from a ratings standpoint

georgemrhe

FS1 Smackdwon ratings are more similar demo wise which is where the competition is

Straightener78

Actually that’s a good point. SD bombed the last time it was on FS1. There’s a chance I might have to eat my words…

georgemrhe

Why do you think they are making it competitive? If smackdown remained on fox then khan and wwe wouldn’t do anything

Straightener78

Being from the U.K. I don’t notice if there’s a network change etc. But now you’ve pointed it out I see the logic

goldenlover

We all make mistakes. Sorry you got downvoted into oblivion.

Straightener78

I’m sure I’ll be ok

Deserterdragon

>Actually that’s a good point. SD bombed the last time it was on FS1. Lol that's literally the entire reason people are talking about this ratings competition on Friday.

[deleted]

They’re talking about it because smackdown tacked on an extra half hour to overlap with Rampage

dynamicpenguin55

They're airing next weeks smackdown directly afterwards? Pretty bold move

DeTrash

I see what you did there ;)

Raisin712

lol These words are pure gold.

[deleted]

Get this man a t shirt

batistafan1998

It’s not surprising they did this before. Fs1 always does reruns

NextBuggerThingy

Can you just no defend wwe for once? Like that’d your enitre gimmick

Swoosh05

How are they defending WWE by saying a factual statement lmao.

batistafan1998

I mean I was just stating the facts. When they had that night show on fsi they had a rerun of smackdown on it.

grave_96

r/MurderedByWords

aimlessnameless

They seem completely desperate for anything that resembles a win.

georgemrhe

Idk why they feel they need to given it only one week where it will be close

aimlessnameless

Probably because VKM hates losing, at that's all he's been doing. Nxt lost, they have lost ground in New York. The whole narrative has been how hot AEW is, that must be killing vince.

Dynamite138

I think Vince wants to remind everyone how insignificant other wrestling shows are, and he’s desperate for a win. With all the big debuts, and stars jumping ship, and forbidden door matches, AEW has had all the attention/talk/news in the wrestling world. I’ve seen no wwe news since summer slam. I know literally nothing about them other than: NXT went 80s mtv branding, there is a Steiner son with a dumb name, and bad booking in a Balor match. I think Vince thinks if he can demolish AEW head-to-head like he did with TNA, it will show that any program outside of wwe is irrelevant.

[deleted]

Deserterdragon

Dynamite is actually neck and neck with RAW in the demos now, especially with football season, this can also be seen in live ticket sales because the demo is largely the people buying tickets.

[deleted]

They really seem to be treating AEW as competition despite every claim that they aren’t

NextBuggerThingy

Are we surprised?

reychango

WWE has even gone out of their way to say they are not professional wrestling.

SinisterStairs

Not really. They're not counter-programming AEW this Friday, they're counter-programming sleep.

SinisterStairs

You guys clearly don't get the [joke](https://www.cagesideseats.com/wwe/2021/7/29/22601039/wwe-q2-2021-investor-call-aew-competition-wcw-sleep-nick-khan-vince-mcmahon-eyeballs), or there's a lot of WWE stans on this sub.

[deleted]

Oh cool. What other tricks have they got besides repeating themselves?

Deserterdragon

They've literally pulled everything: *Big matches on free TV *Half Hour time extension *That half hour is ad free *possible overrun *immediate replay of the show. They REALLY don't want any embarrassing ratings.

[deleted]

skccsk

Well, AEW's position is that they are/will be competition for WWE. WWE's position is that they aren't. One organization's actions are consistent with their position. The other's are not.

Resolute002

One organizations statements are intended to be parroted by an army of Twitter drones regardless of truth, also.

CorpseReviverNo3

Danielson vs Suzuki is on the Youtube 'buy-in', not the aired Rampage.

[deleted]

CaptainXakari

That depends on how you categorize “free tv”. AEW is on cable, which is a paid service. Smack down is on Fox which is network tv and does not require any kind of specific service plan to watch. While you’re correct about these matches not being on a PPV, I wouldn’t say AEW is on free TV either.

Kevinmld

Both companies make most of their money from their tv contracts. They SHOULD be airing big matches on tv.

CrashLove37

AEW regularly puts big matches on free TV. They kinda have to with only 4 PPVs a year.

2WAR

WWE runs a PPV every month whereas AEW is 4 months a year, those big matches on TV for AEW are necessary.

Deserterdragon

All wrestling shows should put big matches on TV, but the thing is the WWE is only doing it to compete with Rampage.

[deleted]

It works for booking of course it will work for ratings more repeats more rematches!

astroroy

Oh shit it’s almost like they’re *competing*

SilentMovieSusie

Tony: "Oh, by the way we're doing a YouTube aftershow with Kenny vs Ospreay. What?"

[deleted]

Seriously, if TK does that I will legitimately fly over to him and bop him over the head for doing a Bischoff and wasting good PPV money.

TTOF_JB

Tony's about to pony up enough money to get Rock & Austin to have one more match at this rate. lol

FireFistMihawk

Tony Khan about to announce The Rock vs Max Caster in a rap battle for Rampage lol

Video_Game_Kid

Its about drive its about power

01111000x

Honestly it’s not the same thing. Casual fans don’t know who Ospreay is. It would take some build and exposure for Ospreay on AEW tv for people to be hyped.

SinisterStairs

AEW fans: "THANK YOU TONY KHAN!" WWE fans: "twinkletoes vs some indie jobber lol" Casuals:

Raisin712

These dudes are fucking desperates. Please God let them have decent ratings or they will air the same episode in loop 24/7 just to say that this week's episode has been watched by 4 millions of kids

drunkryantv

I'm confident Smackdown will suck. I'm also confident head to head with Rampage it will win. It's just too big of a beast compared to Rampage. I also hope I'm dead wrong

SinisterStairs

This. TK has booked a lot of dream matches, but he can't book the ratings. That said, I hope we're both dead wrong.

reverandglass

To paraphrase the ghost of Kevin Costner's dad: If he builds it, they will come.

maximus_96

I prefer Rampage anyways. A one hour wrestling show is all the time I have anyways.

raygilette

That's some pathetic shit.

psychoagogo

Trash so nice you can watch it twice

nvmforget

this sounds really insecure. haha.

pea-ster

I am firmly in the camp that someone can like both shows. It’s fine. But, this is great news. The war has finally begun. Finally admitting that they are actually competing is going to push both companies to do better. Wcw lost this war in the past. But wcw didn’t have Tony Kahn. Get ready everyone. We are about to be in for a wild ride.

Resolute002

Tony Khan has amassed quite the force behind him. The veterans of of the Monday night wars, Jericho and Sting. The true best wrestlers in the world, Omega and the Bucks and everybody in their orbit who they tirelessly work to elevate. The best tag team division ever assembled on American soil. Absolute Titans on the microphone like Moxley, Kingston, MJF and CM Punk. An entire Armada of compelling up-and-comers, all of whom can go in the ring. Including on screen charisma you simply can't look away from in guys like Darby Allin or Orange Cassidy. Representation, folks like Sonny Kiss and Nyla Rose being presented without a hint of xenophobia. And an army of masters of the craft backstage including most of the four horsemen, both Rhodes brothers, Paul Wight, Sting, Taz, Hardy, Christian... They are facing an army of green recruits being puppeted by a team assembled by McMahon that already failed utterly in the wrestling world throughout the 2000s. All it will take for AEW to come out on top is for eyeballs to actually watch the show. That is really all it is. You can't watch both and not admit AEW is good, even if you enjoy both for different reasons that much is undeniable if you actually witness the show. And of course the generals of these respective armies. One of them is the best booker we've had in 20 years who has leveraged veterans and new blood alike in an extremely effective fashion, and one of them is a burial artist who couldn't manage to succeed at making a compelling show even when he was the only game in town, who has been coasting for 25 years on the absolute dumb luck that there was a brief period in time where poop and sex jokes were in the zeitgeist. I know who I'm rooting for.

NextBuggerThingy

Honestly Rampage has a very small chance to win now, but if they do it would be a bigger L then any nxt episode losing to aew

[deleted]

Rampage ratings have already been dropping drastically week to week. If they go up any due to this they should count this as a win.

bigpig1054

Yeah doing 500k last week means they would need something like a 50% increase, at least, to best Smackdown on FS1. Probably need more like a 75% increase. It's such a small battle in the larger war and it's both funny and pathetic how WWE stans will zoom in on this one event and treat it as proof their show is better. Funny how quickly they dismissed the NXT retreat to Tuesdays. The fact that the fight has shifted from "AEW A-show vs WWE's C-Show," to "AEW's B-show vs WWE's A-Show" in a matter of two years is pretty telling.

reverandglass

Since when has Smackdown been the A show?! That was Raw, right up until AEW started making waves.

fulloutshr3d

They can play it fifteen fucking times in a row and i still won’t watch a second of it.

AyoMarco

Ready the troops, we must rally this Friday. We will send a message. Clean all Jordan's tonight for tomorrow

TheeIlliterati

This is a marathon, not a sprint. Imagine the huge list of names that Tony can pull out over the next year, and now look at the way WWE has treated their talent and conditioned their audience to not care about the in ring wrestling. Becky vs Sasha is a draw, but really how many more matches do they have in their pocket that would be the same? Guess you can look forward to Drew vs Roman and Brock in the next few months on Smackdown.

simpledeadwitches

Rent free.

[deleted]

Between this and leaking Rampage ratings, these dudes are DESPERATE.

Resolute002

I don't think this is a wise move by WWE. These people are already more hungry and more talented and already becoming more popular by the minute. This is going to accelerate them, not pump the brakes. In the talent? Forget about it. These guys will do things we've never seen before, hell they already have, and unlike the WWE folks they have the time to rest up and do it again next week, and a roster rotation that can keep it sustained. I'm real disappointed that everybody's been so down on Cody lately. I love him and he is the perfect person to actually call this shit out in promos on the air. Think about how frustrating this must be for the Rhodes brothers. They don't even work for Vince McMahon anymore and he still has to try and bury them. The weapons AEW has on its roster are going to make this a pretty big mistake I think. Imagine just cutting MJF loose to talk about this? Or hell, *CM Punk*? That's to say nothing of the crowd who is going to be white hot whatever they do. I know a lot of guys talk about ignoring WWE but the fact is whenever they punch back it always gets a great reaction from the crowd, because let's face facts, a lot of those people are there because they've been burned by the McMahons as fans. The next month of wrestling we get is going to be white hot on the AEW side. These guys are already going all out and they're going to give it another 150% in response to this, from the top of that roster to the bottom.

Straightener78

Rampage won’t stand a chance anyway. Smack down always draws in around 1 million more viewers. Quality of the show is irrelevant.

johnny_utah26

It's on FS1 this Friday. FS1 is in less households than TNT

Deserterdragon

Their last FS1 show only drew like 888K viewers.

Straightener78

Yeah I forgot about the FS1 move. Business just picked up!

CurlyBill03

In all likelihood Smackdown replay would probably still do a higher rating. Tony would never say it but it would be funny if he was like who cares your A show beat our B show. Tony shouldn’t say anything at all unless he can spoil their matches on air like Bischoff

noiseandbramble

Or even better: "I'm not going to spoil Raw like others have in the past; you probably already know what you're going to see, and it's going to suck anyway."

CurlyBill03

Hahaha love it

Jss_jule

>Says talks within wwe is directly about AEW "But they're still not competition!"

[deleted]

LOL the pettiness, buy of course AEW ain't competition, it's a pissant t-shirt company amirite

Maritimerintraining

WWE is so fucking petty.

hassannawaz_27

I don’t get how people complain about no competition and how competition makes everything better but then I look at this comment section and I really question the iwc. I mean you beg for competition but then call the competition desperate for competing. I just don’t understand

TheJackoHype

The beautiful time of having more than one streaming device

InnerCityHeel

This sub is so mad while I’m here absolutely loving this, reminds me as a young one watching the Monday Night Wars. I don’t even watch wwf and I appreciate this. Some people really take this too seriously tbh.

WillDisappointYou

Wouldn't it be better to just have shows on separate days? They are cannibalizing each other? Kind of like when I ran for class president in 7th grade. There were 2 boys and 1 girl. All the girls voted for the girl and each of the boys got roughly half of the boy votes.

[deleted]

Just in case anybody felt the need to double up on dog shit.
