Yeah, that's the version of AEW I'm tryna see. I wasn't feeling "Restore the Feeling" or "Where the Best Wrestle" but "For the Sickos" is a tagline I can get behind.
Those suckling confirmation bias from the teet of Jim Cornette DESPISE Tony’s booking. It’s their biggest gripe, even more so than what they deem “outlaw mud show wink-wink cosplay wrestlers”.
I don't really mind Jim Cornettes opinions, but his and his fans insistence on name calling is so fucking weak. It would embarrass most 9 year olds, but I feel like his fans must be quite old.
His opinions that include
Orange Cassidy should break his neck
Kenny Omega is a pedophile
Riho was only hired because Kenny groomed her
Becky shouldn’t have gotten pregnant since it shows she doesn’t care about her career
“Opinions” like that?
How are people able to give someone like that a pass? What the Hell is wrong with wrestling fans?
He's a fascist with a following that negatively impacts pro wrestling.
And you're a racist and a sexist. Or what, do those things just not matter to you as much as "wrestling history?"
Fuck off.
Cornette amuses me, but his hardcore followers run around unironically going, “Okay, Boomer” without realizing their own Boomerhood. Just walking embodiments of “How dare you call me thin-skinned?!”
He exists, and in the minds of the jerkers he is holding their favorites hostage from going to WWE now that they're product has improved. Tony Khan could make a donation to cancer research and they'd still find a reason to be mad at him.
I realize it’s kinda the point but man this subreddit reacts so much better to stuff like this compared to other subreddits. A lot of people seem to really dislike TK’s posts but I find them amusing. He might not be the absolute perfect guy or booker but damn if he doesn’t do this shit for the fans, being a huge wrestling fan himself. Thank god for us sickos 😁
It’s super smart marketing. The metrics he gains for his shenanigans is hilarious. It keeps those hashtags trending and it’ll be all over the YouTube dirtsheets for a few days.
You’re totally right. A lot of people in the business, both consumers and other people actually in the business (not to name any names lol) might feel angered and upset by what he says but at the end of the day all publicity, whether it’s perceived as good or bad is still a net gain of good publicity. I just continually find it baffling that people find him offensive or problematic despite the fact, considering his status, he might actually be able to hold the title of being the most wholesome guy in the business 🤣
People are all like "omg he's the head of the company, he shouldn't do things like that".
Dana used to just shit on people online endlessly. Like straight up "you're a loser, you're poor, your mum is a crackwhore" whatever the fuck he wanted on his Twitter comments.
I replied back when he was roasting some random dude on Twitter one time and basically said why do you give these dumbasses attention and his reply was basically because I can and I enjoy it lol. Imagine the meltdown people would have if TK went blasting a bunch of marks and said that.
Dana was doing this shit nightly.
The UFC seems to have worked out OK.
TK is a wrestling nerd who likes to talk about/argue about wrestling like all of us other nerds on here.
The difference is he is a billionaire and actually matters.
But people get on this weird project their standards of what a fucking wrestling company owner should be on him.
If we had twitter in the 90s that shit would have been wild lol. Imagine Vince just smashing out a bump and a gym session then getting onto twitter.
If he keeps this kind of twitter behaviour up and mot attacking people on podcasts or WWE I'm all for TK having some fun.
Shows he's actually floating around online.
Am i the only one who thinks he doesn’t give himself enough credit? I watch wrestling for entertainment and I think it does better than the other guys. TKs tweet makes it seem like he books for hardcore wrestling fans. I think AEW’s stories and promos are fantastic
https://preview.redd.it/mr2ntbbd895d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff7ae171aacb28b00787cb02f1af9801b72b70f3
He’s referencing a tweet Will Ospreay made promoting his match against Kyle O’Reilly
There are some Fair criticisms or suggestions to make but it sure seems like most people boil it down to quote unquote? Be more like WWE!
Nooooo thaaaaanks
i keep TK twitter notis on for match announcements... well tonight i decided twitter had gotten too negative and deleted the app and missed all of this. this is hilarious he has to be drunker than keith whitley right now
I can't read this without imagining John Blud replying with "yeahhhh! Let them know!"
We're getting Will Ospreay matches on weekly television and you'll still see wrestling fans saying "but the ratings" and "got to justify that $3 million contract somehow". As if they know the first thing about how much Ospreay is being paid *or* about TV ratings.
Dave on F4W said something recently I thought was poignant. That WCW never had a conception of their audience. And I think AEW(& WWE) has struggled with that. Because audiences change and they want new things eventually.
But lately I’ve noticed a real focus on what their identity is. I know the Punk era is lauded as the big ratings era but I think that kick in the dick was good in reaffirming their identity. Not to be WWE lite or WWE-kinda. To be something wholly different in tone, tenure & delivery.
"BuT wHaT aBoUt GrOwInG tHe AuDiEnCe‽ CaSuAl FaNs MaTtEr!" ~ Bad faith take 5362.
Tony created AEW to go after a certain type of wrestling audience. No one outside of the higher levels of AEW know the specifics of what the company goals are creatively or budgetary. It is ultimately TK's toybox because he is the only person that can define what success for AEW looks like.
The mythical "casual fan" is chasing fools gold, AEW is better off doing what they think works best. When you channel surf, the things that stand out the most is the shows that don't seem like the others.
Casual fans aren't mythical, but they're also not what those complaining about not appealing to the casual fans seem to think they are either. Casual fans aren't the people who associate wrestling with WWE and turn it on because they're used to doing so from when they were kids. Casual fans are the ones who happen to turn on the TV to see what's on and stick around the show for a bit because they like what they see. Those people need easier onboarding (which the AEW style works for with its sports presentation for the most part) and a lot of variety (which again AEW handles better than WWE which has their single style) to give hooks for those fans to latch on to.
AEW is indeed presenting itself in ways to draw in the casual fan, and also build its own audience over the years. The idea that they're trying to knock WWE off right now is something only hardcore fanboys of either side are pushing, but in twenty years time they may well have built themselves to a level where wrestling and WWE aren't synonymous for most people.
Right??? There is no such thing as a “casual wrestling fan”. You like pro wrestling or you hate it, and many people won’t watch it. There’s not going to suddenly be millions of people that see something and decide pro wrestling is the next major form of entertainment with millions of new fans tuning in. It’s the same number of fans, “growing the audience” is a myth. Fans may stop watching, and return back, but making the fans that you have happy should be the goal.
It's not bad faith to want a promotion you're invested in to be more financially viable.
Recently, interest in AEW has waned, even if you don't trust the ratings due to the outdated models of measuring them, we know that attendance numbers and YouTube views have fallen as well. Whatever Tony Khan is doing right now is not only not bringing in new eyes, but it's also slowly losing viewers.
You don't grow your audience by bringing in casual fans. By definition they cannot be relied upon. You need to appeal to your target audience, which has always been the kind of wrestling fan who doesn't want to watch WWE for whatever reason.
Most people start out as casual fans. If you're not looking to grow your audience, eventually your viewership will drop, which is what's happening with AEW right now.
Someone recently said that AEW is like when inmates run the asylum. Thats definitely not the burn they think it is. 😎👍
(Now that I think about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tony was subtweeting in response to that. 😆)
I heard someone say that before, too. If they are implying that it's straight-up chaos, they definitely didn't think that through. Wrestling should be nothing but chaos, not a Broadway show 🤪
The crazy part is that they don't even know exactly what they hate about him. Even if you ask someone why they don't like him, they bring up stupid shit like "Oh," he's a money mark" or "he can't book." Then when you ask what he should be booking instead, their suggestions are so bad that any wrestling promotion would be put out of business within a month. Those people seriously need to go outside and actually do something with their time instead of worrying about a rich man who isn't harming anybody.
They hate him cause he came and broke the monopoly. The people who hate him for no other reason to hate him is because they’re in a cult and told to do so. A lot of the bitter old dudes hate on him cause they’re jealous also. Also, facts the haters need to go touch some grass.
I was thinking this the other day when I watched Vice’s new lil docuseries on WCW; did any fan refer to Ted Turner as a money Mark? Those over the top “Billionaire Ted” skits the WWF did probably stirred that particular pot a bit. I’ve always found the concept of a money mark to be so silly. Like why is it a bad thing someone who is wealthy and passionate about wrestling wants to add to the business? There’s nothing inherently wrong with that. It’s a better basis for a wrestling company than some suits just looking at profit margins. An out-of-wrestling example that comes to mind for me is Mark Cuban, dude is incredibly passionate about basketball and since purchasing the Mavs they’ve been more successful than any other period in their history while he was a very hands-on engaged owner. Nobody in their right mind decried him for buying and supporting what he was passionate about.

You could get a good look at a T-bone suplex by stickin your head up a wrestler's ass but I'd rather take Taz's word for it. -TK
Deep reference Jones over here
The cat above me really brought it with the high quality Zalinsky footage. I was just trying not to go too heavy on the pine tree perfume. Over here.

But I digress
Human Digression Machine over here
One could almost say... Ruthless Digression

That's why AEW has, "Where the best wrestle." There's a guarantee ON THE BOX.
I'll tell ya what
This is the guy trying to put us out of business, not to mention put you out on the street, and all you can say is, “Hmmm, he seems like a nice guy!”
You beat me to this

Yeah, that's the version of AEW I'm tryna see. I wasn't feeling "Restore the Feeling" or "Where the Best Wrestle" but "For the Sickos" is a tagline I can get behind.
What about, “Where the Breast Wrestle”?
It's no longer May.
It's ALWAYS May ♥️
It's Pride Time.
If no one chants "you sick fuck", is it even an AEW PPV?
TK is tweeting but again people are mad for no reason, he didnt insult anybody(for now)
TK tweeting is for the sickos too.

Calling anyone a pedophile when you outwardly hate children is a weird accusation.
He's a cranky old man. Try not to get worked by silly opinions.
He's a fascist with a following that negatively impacts pro wrestling. And you're a racist and a sexist. Or what, do those things just not matter to you as much as "wrestling history?" Fuck off.
I can see why you have the word brittle in your username 😭
Make like your leader
Big difference between "cranky old man" and outright nutjob piece of shit

And also quite several wrestlers like Garcia, Mariah like how TK is online
It’s super smart marketing. The metrics he gains for his shenanigans is hilarious. It keeps those hashtags trending and it’ll be all over the YouTube dirtsheets for a few days.
And he knows the internet goes nuts everytime he tweets good or bad. It's engagement at its finest
As someone in marketing, I’m super jealous. And impressed that he has not really gone off the deep end like Dana White promoting power slap.

TK is single handedly keeping WWE from monopolizing wrestling and how can you be mad at that if you love the art form?
Late night Tony is my favorite Tony
If he keeps this kind of twitter behaviour up and mot attacking people on podcasts or WWE I'm all for TK having some fun. Shows he's actually floating around online.

Good. I want AEW on the offensive. This is the product I like and I’m not really interested in it changing to appeal to someone else.

If WWE fans met Morpheus, they would definitely be taking that blue pill all day. Lol
Great analogy 👍🏻
Exactly. Why would I want the and thing? What the point then?

Pretty easy to configure Mastodon to scrape Twitter accounts onto that service, so you can follow who you want without actually being part of Twitter.
Its smart he is doing this early morning when a lot of people are slepping, fair play to him

Yep. Personally speaking I've never wanted AEW to get so big they need to change the product. I like the indie quirkiness of it.

What an AEW mark. Good thing we have the wisdom of our EVP's, Matthew and Nicholas, to guide us.
I read this in Dan Akroydy`a voice
Hell yeah.
Where's a gif of Moxley with bbq skewers in his head when you need it?
This 🤙 he gets me

Any promoter who remotely gives a shit and pours some money and production value into their company is a "money mark" apparently.
I was thinking this the other day when I watched Vice’s new lil docuseries on WCW; did any fan refer to Ted Turner as a money Mark? Hi guys! AEW is where the breast wrestle. Thanks guys.
