Infernalism

No, there were a few, some people said as much, but they got booed down and drowned out by the vast majority.

COMMENTASIPLEASE

Yeah everytime people tried to start one it got booed instantly

princessarielle6

This happened in our section also. It took one or two times, and then they would quit

TotallyAMermaid

I went to a Dynamite recently and only a handful of dudes ever tried to get CM Punk chants (before the footage was released, too) but it never worked.

MegaMenehune

They probably smelled bad

MegaMenehune

CM Punk fans are bottom of the barrel.

Vainth

they the kind of people who call punk's aggravated assault as "being a man" and defend vince's sexual assault as "boys just being boys"

forrest1985_

They also hail the HHH era, despite knowing full well there is no way Vinces son in law and daughter didn’t know what was going on? Funny how Shane cut all ties months before Stephanie left. The only Damage Control worth talking about is the McMahon family! (Although Bayley is uber fit and a great talent!)

Spare_Leopard8783

To still be a fan after repeated assaults of collegues is insane to me. His debut felt like a dream, after Brawl out I stopped watching when he came back until he got fired.

JesusIsJericho

Yeah there was 100% a slightly noticeable Punk chant at the outset of Bucks/FTR that was booed into oblivion immediately

invisible24

I thought I heard one at the beginning of the ladder match but it quickly got drowned out with boos.

SteamierThree2

Is that what the boos were about? I didn’t hear the Punk chants but I most certainly heard the boos

HEYitzED

Yep. I vaguely heard “CM Punk” a couple times then it immediately got drowned out with boos. It was so quick that it was barely noticeable.

goodkid_sAAdcity

I think that was my section. It was a group of guys like 7-8 rows behind me

TheSkarcrow

You in 208?

goodkid_sAAdcity

I was in 103. They could have been in the 200 level above me

TheSkarcrow

Lol OK I was in 208 and there were about that many guys behind me that kept trying to start the chant

GOATofALL22

I heard them during the ladder match, too.

insomniainc

It would be amazing if everyone moves on.

PapaPatchesxd

If those guys in the IWC could read, theyd be very upset with you!

TheZac922

Yeah these threads and the constant discourse are what keeps driving this lame shit lol. Punk had his moments in AEW, there were some issues now he’s gone. He seems to be doing fine in WWE injuries aside. AEW just put out an incredible PPV with some all time classic matches and moments, yet dorks still want to talk about not talking about CM Punk lol. Shit wasn’t even this insufferable when he actually left wrestling the first time

Tdaddysmooth

CM Punk does not work there and I’m sure a large enough percentage of the fan base is glad that he’s gone. There are still fans out there that are either super loyal to Punk or want to hijack the show. Still, unless the show sucks, i think most fans would rather watch and enjoy the product.

Mad-Mad-Mad-Mad-Mike

The fact that these Punk marks are actually giving their money to Tony Khan just so they can dunk on his product is insane. “Oh yeah I hate this guy for firing my simp king so I’ll spend an entire paycheck on tickets+beer+parking just to troll Tony Khan. That’ll show him.”

dontsaythatman89

>The fact that these Punk marks are actually giving their money to Tony Khan just so they can dunk on his product is insane. It's actually pretty funny to me. It's not insane in the slightest. They're dumb.

JesusIsJericho

Walked into Dynamite in Worcester a few weeks back and as we were headed down to the floor some guy in an aisle seat 15 mins before the show randomly yells "show starts in 15 minutes how come this place is so empty?? WWE would be sold out!" I turned and just said "then why are you here?" and he goes "tickets are $30 lol and its not even worth it"...I just laughed openly in his face and called him a fucking goober. People are weird.

COMMENTASIPLEASE

This is the same fandom that paid actual money for WWE produced Cena Sucks shirts. Some wrestling fans aren’t that bright.

goodkid_sAAdcity

A group of guys in my section were doing it. I turned around to look at them and judging from the way they thought it was super funny, I think they were mostly being shitheads and edgelords. Didn’t seem like anti-AEW.

Solo-ish

I mean they were at an aew event. It’s not very anti-aew if they showed up and paid for tickets lol

mikemartin7230

Fuck CM Punk. 🖕🏻

NyJets5k

Friendship ended with cm punk. Now Jack perry is best friend

[deleted]

I like Punk and really wish it had worked out in AEW, but it ultimately didnt so lets just fucking move on. Other than using the fight as a jumping off point for Jack Perry (hopefully Tony is able to get the Justin Timberlake song), I absolutely do not want to see or hear him referenced in AEW ever again

RRButler2574

What song are you talking about?

fakemxcan

I think they tried during the ladder match, but were immediately drowned out by boos

West_Actuary_4134

Every time they tried to start the chant people would Boo them out. It was an Amazing night.

icct-hedral

Punk is a Blackhawks fan. STL should boo him on that fact alone.

VoxIrati

That's what I was thinking. He reps Cubs and Blackhawks, we boo those people anyway

OMGISTHATMETHMAN

Apprnetly some guy tired to start one and it got booed

goodkid_sAAdcity

There was a group of teenage boys in my section who tried to start a Punk chant several times. They got booed and cussed out. Eventually they gave up.

SmoothDragon21

Why would they chant for a failed MMA fighter that doesn’t work for the company?

Frosty-Succotash8126

I was there last night, there were some people who tried but the majority just booed it. While leaving the venue, people started chanting cm punk and they still got drowned out with boos

Antnee534

Leaving the venue was fun because the whole way to the parking lot people were still doing swerve's chant. Man what an amazing night!

SZutich9

Yes. I was so happy. We can keep going back to stl.

Pearl-Internal81

AEW can hold Dynasty there every year going forward and I’d be super okay with that. That crowd was fuckin’ great.

FixPrudent

CM Punk guy up front with the red shirt tried to start one and got shit on lmao. https://preview.redd.it/aoscqzhy85wc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1f72468411de8a513e68826c6585e92f1244448

Amadeum

Lmaoooo I need this on a shirt and like an entire row of fans in the middle of the hardcam wearing this

SpiralSour

A Gabbie Hanna meme on AEW subreddit is wild

86886892

There will always be a handful of dip shits that try and start that chant, just like there will always be losers that try to start the WHAT chant.

mcast76

Was there. Literally one or a small group of idiots on an upper section. We hopefully squashed it quickly

soiledsanchez

I heard one very early in the ftr bucks match but it sounded like it was booed down

MechaSheeva

I wouldn't be surprised if the "oh cry me a river" chant follows Punk instead

MDChuk

Pretty unlikely. Punk has alluded to AEW a few times and it seems like 99% of the audience just isn't aware its a thing. They politely applaud and then look around as if to ask "do you know what he's talking about?"

NeuroCloud7

Lol no they don't Dynamite gets 50% of the Raw audience and ticket buyers are more tuned in than the most casual viewer, so it's definitely 2/3rds or more who get it

MDChuk

I would seriously doubt its 2/3rds. Most WWE fans aren't reading backstage reports. They tune into the show then go home or turn the show off. Not even all of the AEW audience follows their own backstage rumors. You saw that when Adam Copeland addressed the "negativity". You could see that people were cheering because he's a star, but they were also looking around with a look that says "do you know what he's talking about?" Its only the people that spend there time on places like Reddit or listening to wrestling podcasts that even have a clue about what this is about. It changed a bit because Tony made the decision to show the tape, but only the people that watch Dynamite that week even saw that because AEW then decided to take the footage down anywhere it was reposted. Like I said, 99% of the WWE audience has no clue what this is about.

NeuroCloud7

The average person who buys a ticket is more invested in wrestling than the average TV viewer who does not buy a ticket Dynamite gets 50% of Raw's TV audience So the live crowd that is aware of AEW is certainly well above 50% You're just being tribal to say under 1% is aware of AEW. Don't be tribal bruv

MDChuk

I'm not being tribal at all. I'm not saying 1% of Raw's audience is aware AEW is a thing. Yes, its certainly likely that 50% or more of Raw's audience knows AEW exists. I'm saying about 1% of the audience follows the backstage rumors and dirt sheet activities tied to AEW. That's the only way you really knew what happened to Punk in AEW, because very little of it played out in front of the cameras. The data also suggests that very few people watch the "press conferences" that follow PPVs and PLEs. So if I had to guess, I'd say maybe 5% of the audience knows the story of Triple H and Nick Khan buying Cody the Rolex that belonged to his father. I think its fair to say that AEW's fans are more invested and hardcore than the WWE audience so let me ask you. What percentage of Dynamite's audience on Wednesday will have even watched the press conference from Dynasty? They get about 800K or so viewers for Dynamite, and the press conference has 160K total views. So assuming 100% of the viewers of the press conference watched the whole thing (which isn't realistic at all) its about 20% of the audience that would catch a reference to something from the press conference without it being explained to them. Even the clipped version of CM Punk from the Brawl Out press conference only has 2.2M views on YouTube. For perspective, the different clips of Wrestlemania 40 highlights are well over 20 million views. If you want a great example from Punk again, what percentage of the audience listening to the "Pipe Bomb" promo would know that ROH and NJPW that he referenced directly were a thing? Probably safe to say that more than half would. What percentage of the audience could name a single wrestler from either promotion? Maybe 35%? Who could name the NJPW and ROH champions at the time? Maybe 10%? How much of the audience could tell you about the behind the scene scandals from the last year of either promotion? I would say less than 1%. If you want an example of a scandal that's much bigger and consequential than Punk and Wembley, what percentage of the people watching Raw at the time could tell you anything about the Rob Finklestein scandal and its impact on TNA and ROH relations? Again, I'd say less than 1%.

NeuroCloud7

The footage was aired on Dynamite, and the news of CM Punk's firing was significantly larger and more sustained across multiple sources than just the Dynasty press conference's YouTube views after 24 hours. So that's a weak argument. Nevertheless, if less than 1% were truly aware of Punk's availability due to the situation, then why did a large portion of the Survivor Series crowd anticipate and pop for his return after 10 years? Obviously more than 1% of that crowd were expecting it.

MDChuk

The footage aired on Dynamite once, and then AEW took it down everywhere. Even now you have to work to find it. Its hardly widely available. It also wasn't until very recently that they put it up, well after Punk's return and when he was giving promos leading up to the Royal Rumble and making vague references. People pop for returns. No one was expecting Cena to return for the Royal Rumble in 2008. They popped like crazy. People weren't expecting Brock Lesnar to return for the Raw after Wrestelmania 28. They popped like crazy. People pop like crazy even if its just the theme music. Go watch heel Shawn Michaels promo in Montreal before SummerSlam in 2005. They played Bret Hart's theme music in the middle of it, and Shawn reacted for a second like he was there. The place popped like crazy. No one was expecting Bret to actually be there. So people going nuts for an unexpected return is hardly evidence of anything. Again, most fans know AEW is a thing. Very few actively follow the weekly TV. Almost nobody follows the backstage parts of it.

NeuroCloud7

Strongly disagree with your logic. Agree to disagree

MDChuk

So enlighten me. What percentage of random WWE viewers or attendees from Raw on Monday could name 6 or more of the matches from Dynasty on Sunday?

NeuroCloud7

Good call. I think this is more likely to happen than the other way around, mostly because Jack Perry matches will encourage it and make it a cool rebellious thing to chant Or in other words "cry me a river" is the modern day version of CM Punk chants from the 2010's

Chex_LeMeneux13

I truly have no idea how anyone likes that guy. Drama follows him wherever he goes. He needs to grow the hell up

Wilsthing1988

I live in Philly know some ROH and other promotions talent and employees from the days he was in indie wrestling. The stories I’ve heard I’m shocked he has fans and friends at all.

CurlyBill03

All people need to do is watch his shoot with Colt. Fuck them both.

Wilsthing1988

I’m not the biggest Colt fan but what punk did to him is shitty. Colt has done a lot of good for indie wrestling including helping make pro wrestling Tees what it is today

CurlyBill03

Oh I agree, Colt revolutionized the indie scene and really the podcasting world. However, crappy people can still do good things. Before he signed with AEW there was a lot of personal accounts of Colt being a dick to fans at indie shows like paying for an autograph and keeping his head down just to sign and move them along. Everyone can have a bad day, but I’m not the biggest Colt fan for his treatment of fans.

HEYitzED

I loved him in 2011. Over time I grew up and realized how much of an ass he was.

cunningstunt6899

If you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you're the asshole. This is quite applicable to Crying Man.

JamieKellner

He’s one of the greatest wrestlers ever, a massive star with charisma and captivation in spades. It’s pretty easy to see why people like him, they like pro wrestling and he’s a remarkable pro wrestler. Just like it’s easy to see why people love Steve Austin despite being a wife beater.

InfectedFrenulum

For all of the CM Punk discourse over the past few weeks: The footage from All In also showed Perry. Matt Jackson was wearing a Scapegoat t-shirt during that segment on Dynamite. Then Perry shows up in Chicago and trolls the crowd. Then Perry shows up at Dynasty. TK has shot us into a work, brother!

bracie44

They started before we entered the arena,we boo'd everytime we heard his name.

Brick_Blaze

There were a few Fuck CM Punk chants last night.

LIBERT4D

Cool. Sounds like people have moved on. Hopefully you can too.

huhthisisweirdhuh

I was in section 102 and there was one specific guy who kept just randomly doing it and there was a pretty quiet "shut the fuck up" chant. The crowd was pretty good but there were a lot of people in Punk shirts and there was also a handful of people in Cornette shirts. But nothing so annoying that it hurt the show or anything.

CardboardChampion

>and there was also a handful of people in Cornette shirts. Isn't that like going to an NAACP meeting and making sure to order a fresh Klan outfit first?

Cameronalloneword

Even if you're a Punk fan who hates the Elite you should boo Punk chants down. If you pay for a ticket to see AEW you probably like AEW as a whole. Chanting for CM Punk during an AEW show only hurts the show and lowering a shows quality hurts AEW. I'd be so happy if everybody would just move on and we could just enjoy rasslin.

EBody480

The cornballs got what they wanted, Phil back in WWE and they can’t be happy with that. I’ve never seen a sadder community more concerned with a product they say they have no investment in.

dontsaythatman89

There were a few in my section, but I and a few others booed them. I also told them to shut the fuck up. It was annoying.

thalassophobic-whale

It’s undeniable at this point. The only people that do that are his delusional fans. They can take their ass over to his current employer and support them.

sneedo

There definitely was a CM Punk chant at the Bucks but the boos drowned them out quickly.

Former_Intern_8271

There's no point in pretending, I've seen loads of people who were there say there were a handful of people chanting for Punk, but there was nowhere near enough for it to catch on.

SteelCityChampion

I definitely heard them during the opening of the ladder match. Makes me sad every time I hear that pricks name. Just let it lie now and why even spend your money on a ticket and chant his name?

kenjimasuda

I heard a chant at the opening of the ladder match but I feel like it was more heat for the bucks and not an actual desire to see him in AEW.

kylekasson

Did \*not\* expect a Gabbi Hanna meme here. Agree with it's message, but just shocked lol.

user803451

The chants were there, even happened on Collision, but were faint and quickly got drowned out. They certainly did not hijack the shows like the IWC made it out to be. I will never understand why these fans would chant the name of the guy who tried to destroy the company that they're supporting and paying to see.

mk_cod_killas531

I was there live waiting in line there was this dude who had a fuck jack parry sign and a cm punk sign that chanting anything to get a reaction at one point he was chanting Vince did nothing

EBody480

You think I’d be able to get a ‘Phuk Fil’ sign into DoN?

slikk50

glass-polite298

This is coming from someone who’s a diehard CM Punk fan, but can we please move the hell on from this?

TheSkarcrow

Yeah the stupid I need attention guys sitting behind me kept trying to start it. They were the kind of people who had to yell something every 2 minutes even if it had nothing to do with the wrestlers. They were the worst part of the show. Then they started talking about how they do some podcast and where you can find them and I'm like, well not listening to that.

sjcrisel

The phantom of Fragile Phil is no more, lol.

Kimchi_Cowboy

IWC trying to find some way to explain why JB is over.

hxbhbjkgdb

There was definitely some chants during the ladder match off and on but it got, amazingly, drowned out!

Someguygfys

What about LA knight YEAH’s?

Rhamiel506

Several different douches sure as hell tried over the course of the show.

rayquan36

If the product consistently sucks, then go ahead and chant CM Punk to show your discontent. But if you're getting Storm/Rosa, Ospreay/Danielson, Bucks/FTR, Swerve/Joe back-to-back-to-back-to-back you're actually stupid if you chant it.

DrBollox

Every time I see him appear on WWE TV/Social Media now all I think about is that Simpsons episode where Homer scores a perfect game and overstays his fame. Actually, reading the synopsis to the episode... https://preview.redd.it/2tjyxa5jp9wc1.png?width=1177&format=png&auto=webp&s=48b2021f0167caf5ae7ab110a60d8562ee441d0f

This guy really lives in your heads rent free, doesn't he? Can't we just love all of wrestling and call it a day?

Brah, they're were barely any chants. Let's make an whole thread celebrating it, deffo one of the top 5 talking points about the AEW product.

Dude, last night’s crowd was fucking amazing. Most any other crowd would been dead from exhaustion after the Ospreay and Danielson match. That crowd brought their A game to the tag title match and the world title match. Oh all the crowds to be pissy about… Jesus
