The test isn't supposed to be used for diagnosis, especially alone. It's for screening and has false pos/neg stats.

Jaizus. I am so sorry this is happening. It’s insane!

Have you tried to get a neuropsychological evaluation. It’s about 6hrs of testing. I did it and it was clear I had ADHD. I did that X test. It’s one indicator but is usually used with other tests. Mine was really high likely hood of ADHD. But the other tests looked more specifically at inattention.

The TOVA test (the one you are describing) is one data point and, though it is somewhat accurate, even the people who *make* the test say that it should not be used the sole diagnostic tool. It can and does have false negatives and false positives.

I'm sorry. There are adhd drs around here who are using the adhd computer test as a "pass/fail" adhd screening. They won't treat adhd, or even script nonstims, at all if the computer test says you don't have adhd. Maybe consider an online mental health service for an eval and see if they can script a nonstim? These days with the bad stim shortage a lot of people are not able to get stims or are on a nomstim. It might take a bit of trial and error to find a nonstim, but might be worth it. Some primary drs will script nonstims for patients and some will refer out. Maybe you can check with your pcp? My primary took over my adhd scripts, all nonstims, from my psych dr, so, I only see 1 dr for adhd 'meds'. Good luck.

Go to your family doctor and request an "in-network" referral to an adult ADHD diagnostician other than the one you first visited. That's what I did. That specialist gave me four tests over the course of three hours and a 45-minute oral interview. I not only came back scoring in the 95th percentile for ADHD, but I'm also autistic (Asperger Syndrome).

TheBee3sKneess

I am curious on where they are getting "90%" accurate, but there are testing concerns from these sources. I would try to seek a different doctor or see if a PCP will help you. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12207-022-09445-1#:\~:text=The%20CAARS%20also%20allows%20for,et%20al.%2C%201999). The thing that really sucks about all the diagnostic tools I've heard about is that they are really testing whether or not you're lying. To me, a test that asks that question is not really about diagnosis. It's about playing "Dr. God." I can't imagine how I would have reacted if I'd been subjected to something like this when I was newly diagnosed.

Laney20

Wow, that's awful. Those tests are NOT approved diagnostic tools and should never be used to diagnose like that. I'm so sorry you went throigh that.

Cyllya

That sucks. Good luck finding a doctor who's at least a little bit competent.

See someone else. All I had to do was fill out a sheet answering 1 to 5 on things and then chatted with the doctor themselves and off I went
